A Chef and the foodguy walk into the new Mexican Restaurant on Morro Bay Embarcadero, the Owner says Hi I'm Wendy. She has us from hello, mid afternoon we had her full attention and got the whole story on her new place. Okay I won't give away the story but the meal told us all we needed to know. Considering the establishment that survived here for years, the inside of La Katrina was lookin' great. booth seating around the dining room, tables in the middle. A Colorful paint scheme that sets a happy playful ambiance. Alright...alright...the menu is several pages but it's certainly not overcrowded with too many choices, you'll find what you want. Right then I ordered my go to Carnitas Burrito, Wendy suggested the Embarcadero style...Okay. Chef ordered his go to Shrimp burrito His was wet with red sauce, mine wet with green sauce and topped with melted cheese. The burritos were a good health size, protein ratio to other ingredients was good. Both burritos were delicious and two hungry guys were satisfied. Came on a Monday evening and there was no wait. Inside the decor is nicely done, however the furniture itself is a little dated, reminds me of the "old lady" restaurants my great grandmother liked to frequent. But appearance is not a deal breaker for me. The have a daily special which my grandma had ordered as well as my son since it was $1 cheaper than the kids meal. My husband and I ordered the Chile Rellenos. And WOW! Chile Rellenos in restaurants can be hit or miss, either the sauce is bland or the Chile itself has been sitting for awhile. It takes a lot for a restaurant to get them right. And La Katrina got them right!!! They were the BEST Chile Rellenos I'd ever had from a restaurant. The sauce was flavorful and had a bit of spice. The cheese on the inside was melted beautifully and the batter for the chile wasn't soggy. Everything about it was perfect! I wish I had taken a photo of my meal so anyone reading could see how good it looked too. I was not really wanting Mexican food last night, but I'm SO glad my family chose it. read more

We topped off a recent sunset walk at Tidelands park with a test of this fairly new restaurant. What luck! Every bit that we had was very tasty and fresh, even the tortilla chips, rice and beans :-). No seriously, I had the seafood enchiladas and they were delicious, with a great very lively sauce (not hot). My friend had the alambre tacos, an original mix with bacon and pineapple, and is still raving about them several days later (I tasted, and also fully approve). Just about the best Mexican food we've had in the county. Late to the party again, we have a terrible tendancy to take too long to try new restaurants that replace some we liked. Don't be like us, run to this one! It comes with a well-stocked bar if you like that (the margaritas looked great) but not the sad bar food that usually goes with it. Likewise, it's on the Embarcadero so could be just another of the tired tourist pigslop establishments that thrive there, but this one would do well anywhere. Very cheerful atmostphere, very friendly service, we'll eat in next time for sure. read more

First of all walking into this lovely establishment you feel the authentic Mexican culture with the vibrant colors and day of the dead decor. The food here was amazing! We came for dinner and just HAD TO return for breakfast. To start the molcajete was delicious and was plenty for two people. Dessert was my favorite part-- Mexican pan dulce concha with ice cream in between. Must try!! Menudo is the best in town with so much flavor. Chilaquiles were also amazing!! Second time I've been and we've had problems. From the get go we were given grief because we had two service dogs with us. I understand that they have to stay under the table and no eating or drinking. But you don't have to give us attitude about it. Asking us more questions than the legal "what service they provide", which wasn't asked. Also, our server was much nicer to all the other guests. Barely spoke to us and only came to our table if she had to it seemed like. People that came in after us were served before us. She was jovial and joked around with other customers. But not us. Do not go to this restaurant if you have a service animal. They are very biased. Food is good but not worth the attitude from certain employees. Our server made us feel uncomfortable being there when we had every right to dine at this facility. read more

Ok ...so I've eating here 3 times in 1 week!! Best Fish Tacos I've ever had, seriously.. and I've eatin a ton ‍ And make sure you ask for their hot sauce (red), so goood!! They sell containers of this hot sauce too! I had the pleasure of meeting the owner Wendy, she is the best! So attentive to everyone and every detail of this awesome restaurant. She knows all the locals and their orders by heart and gives off the best vibes. So stoked this place is a few blocks from my house, can't wait to dine in again soon! read more

The fiance and I decided to try this restaurant out tonight. Loved the decoration and the atmosphere. Its a family owned restaurant and definitely brought back memories of working in my grandpas restaurant. The staff was very nice and attentive. We decided to start with the guacamole appetizer and margaritas. The guacamole was delicious and fresh. The margaritas were good, but not as strong since they use agave tequila which is less concentrated. As for the entrees, I ordered the surf and turf burrito and he got the mixed fajitas. The burrito was huge and it was okay, I was expecting a little more shrimp and carne asada, when you pick it up it looked more like a bean and cheese burrito. But the flavor was there. As for the fajitas they were delicious and seasoned very well. If we're ever back in the area, I would definitely come back and willing to try their molcajete. read more

Stumbled upon this beautiful restaurant when we took a trip to the Central Coast. The outdoor seating and indoor beauty is clothed in culture. With the beautiful colors, altar, Calaveras, and vibrant walls tell a story of how the culture welcomes their guests. It doesn't stop there the food was equally amazing. To start we had the chile verde bean dip and albondigas soup. The soup was light and fluffy in flavor and the meatballs were nice a flavorful. We moved on to our entree's, menudo and chilaquiles with flank steak. The menudo was packed with goodness. We opted for the pigs foot with hominy and tripe. As for the chilaquiles they were spicy and I like spice but for me they were a bit too much. The flank steak was tender and blended well with meal. I topped it off with a Horchata shake and OMG it was so yummy! Overall we enjoyed our meals and will definitely be visiting when we return. read more

We stayed at the Estero Inn right across the street from here and so it was convenient to stop in for breakfast. Best breakfast burrito ever and Hubby had the huevos rancheros and enjoyed every bite. Clean and bright decor and good service read more

My boyfriend and I went on a bike ride to Morro bay and we stopped at this restaurant. The food was delicious and was flavorful. I had the chili verde omelette and the sauce had a great kick to it. The employees were really nice. We loved the chips, salsa and guacamole. I would have liked my burrito but the carnitas in it were like 70% just fat chunks and i had to keep spitting pieces out. I'd go back to try it again though and just try a different meat. My husband liked his meal aside from it being kind of cold. Flavors were all good though! They seemed super understaffed so it took awhile to get everything but we didn't mind. I'm figuring that that was why some things didn't come out that great. read more

This was our first visit and we really enjoyed the ambiance, service, and food. Also reasonable prices.

This place is new to the Embarcadero, and such a hidden gem! It is at the end of the main Embarcadero area closer to the state park. Parking: street parking as well as a designated parking lot. Service: it was so busy the day we went, and even so, service was amazing! We were sat down immediately, and everyone was so polite and attentive! Location Aesthetics: it was such a cute vibe! They have the Dia de Los Muertos decor, and decorated with bright colors. It was also very clean and bright everywhere you looked. Definitely a sit-down restaurant, but not fancy. Food: Their salsa was bomb, we definitely asked for a chips and salsa refill at some point because it was too good! We had their flautas plate with rice and beans, and the carne asada fries and both were delicious and good portions! We ended with the Pan Dulce dessert that had ice cream in the middle of a cut Pan Dulce, which was delishhhhhhhh!!!!! Definitely reminds me of Mexican comfort food growing up. Overall.. delicious! This was a great spot after a day at the beach. Food tasted authentic, absolutely delicious. Order takeout, I had the ranchero burrito. It was huge, it took me three sittings to finish it. Order Togo, but the restaurant was beautifully decorated. Will return on the next morro bay trip. read more

Delicious food with a good view of Morro Bay rock, when enjoying the pet friendly patio. My sister and I had picked up some breakfast burritos before but knew we had to come back to dine in and try more food. Before making our way to the rock, we stopped with our friend for some breakfast and we were not disappointed. Our server Rafael was very attentive to our table and the guests inside and helpful with recommendations. We ordered chilaquiles La Katrina ( molcajete salsa, topped with thin cut skirt-meat, sour cream, fried eggs, cilantro, cotija cheese and pickled onions) chilaquiles verdes(green sauce w/ almost everything the Katrina has minus the meat) and a chile verde omelette, each plate came with a side of rice and beans. The meat on the chilaquiles Katrina was flavorful and perfectly cooked, both chilaquiles were delicious (molcajete salsa was a bit more spicy), eggs were good (but I do like my eggs fried a bit more), the meat in the chile verde omelette was tender, and juicy. Though I do prefer more spice and before we could ask Rafael for some salsa, he already had 2 small bowls of salsa with him. The food is tasty and savory, and we will be back! read more

We'd driven to Morro Bay to visit my father-in-laws grave at the cemetery and decided to get some lunch in town. We ordered the fish tacos and chili rellenos. Both were delicious! Meal also came with really good chips & salsa! When visiting, I'd let them know where you parked because we got a sticky note on our car about parking for restaurant patrons only. My husband went in a cleared it up with the staff as we literally just parked there to eat and left town. I'd brought my plant I'd purchased in a different town in with me because the car was too hot to leave it in there during our lunch. Potentially that was the confusion of making it look like we'd been walking around town. Just a bummer people use their lot for regular parking. read more

I was a little skeptical of this place since no one was really there. Found out they just opened up and I can guarantee they will be crowded in the future. I knew the food was going to rock right when I saw the basket of chips they brought. Fresh, thin, and crispy with good salsa. I got a burrito with a chili relleno AND carnitas in it. I have never had a burrito with both things in it and it was DELICIOUS. You can also order with other types of meat and it comes smothered in sauce. I am really looking forward to eating my leftovers. They have a patio that is dog friendly and the service was excellent, including the little boy who brought us our menus and water. Immediately upon walking in we were greeted by the owner, she is very welcoming, friendly and pleasant! The environment is super cute and new! The menu was great and the choices are endless. Upon sitting we received thin great tasting chips with a salsa that had just the right spice and was very tasty! We ordered menudo and they had the option to add "pata" which I have never seen at any local restaurant but we always make it at home with pata and it was good not greasy at all, served with 3 tortillas. We also ordered a asada taco plate and the meat was very good and good quality meat is used, the rice is probably one of the most authentic Mexican rices in the area, and the refried beans are very delicious!
