Service was friendly and helpful when our first choice was unavailable. A great place to socialize with friends or have a date night. Their polenta - a beloved wintertime recipe - takes hours of continuous stirring to cook it to the point where it's fragrant and unctuous to perfection, and despite normally being just a side to a main meat course, here the polenta shines when prepared with raw egg yolk and Raschera cheese fondue. A must-try: the restaurant's terrific pasta and borlotti bean soup. It was a trek and a half to get there with 2 buses and a brisk walk but totally worth it the minute you walk in and greeted by their sweet Italian charm. Reservation needed! Execution is good but their own roast is good (don't get me wrong it totally beats anything else from Italy) but they also have coffee from other roasters. All together the coffee itself is a reason to visit but Taglio is so much more as they also serve excellent food. The pasta I had was a nice example of well-made uncomplicated food. They are also a deli so sell a lot of charcuteries and cheeses as well as other food items (tea, coffee, beverages, granola etc) The service was nice, friendly, mostly English speaking and fairly fast and they also have free wifi (however with mandatory facebook login) so a place I will visit again. Only minor drawback would be the price level - dinner easily came to €50 per head and while not super-expensive it is still a bit on the high side for more of a neighborhood place.

There doesn't seem to be much in the neighborhood for strolling around from what I could see so don't plan on spending time in the area beyond dining. It definitely seemed like a locals haunt, there were no other obvious tourists there that I could tell, at least not from U.S. They seated us with no reservation ahead of time so that was good (Friday night around 8:30 pm). The menu mentions "Milanese" food and I'm not sure what that entails very well but do know this isn't a place for what one thinks of as traditional Italian food, in terms of marinara/red sauce pastas, etc. we got an order of spaghetti and either they mixed it up as something else or Milanese spaghetti is way different than I imagined it as the sauce was a green pesto-base. It was fine but not what I imagined nor how I thought the menu described it. We also got the risotto and that was very good! I get it that dinner in Europe is often a slower affair than in the U.S. but the service was quite slow. We ordered a beer and it came quite a bit later (and in a room temperature bottle) and then later we asked for a 2nd bottle of water. It hadn't come after 5 or so minutes so when the waiter asked if we wanted desert we ordered tiramisu and reminded him we wanted more water. It never came even by the time dessert arrived some 10 minutes later so we again asked for that second bottle of water. It finally arrived after we were done eating the dessert! Then when we got our bill it had a charge for THREE bottles of water. The menu/type of food I can't fault, it just wasn't in my wheelhouse but I have to ding the rating on the fairly slow service.
