Been here quite a few times, and this is pretty much how it is- 1- The food is pretty good; we come after church for brunch . I usually order a breakfast combo or a sandwich. Never an issue 2- The service is bad. Real bad. They've had a lady running the register that I've cut slack because she was in training, but after 3 months, she still is terrible. Today was the worst experience ever- I came in ready to make my order at the first register, but there was no one there. I then moved to the second register and waited in line while she rang someone else up in front of me and then told me "you have to go to the other register to order" by that time there was four people ahead of me so I had to go to the end of the line. When it got to my turn, the guy told me you have to go to the (original )register if you wanna send me back to the first one that I started at. I treated myself to butter instead of Mayo which was indulgent after a light toasting with dripping butter brought to my table. Last time I had the crepe with egg and mushroom sauce which, again, was good food and good value. My wife favors the napoleon dessert while I treasure the crème brûlée. The croissant is also good. I give it a 9.5 out of 10, just because there was too much garlic in my opinion. The Country Potato Soupe was excellent. I loved the bacon bits in it and the cheese was a really nice touch! I loved that I could feel the little bits of potatoes as well! Definitely a 10. The Fresh Fruit Petite Salade could've been better, but it was a nice option to finish the meal with. The fruit was not that Fresh.. I like that they have a white sauce that you can pour over your fruit. I don't remember the name unfortunately but it was sweet and complemented the fruit perfectly. The location is really pretty, I personally love that it had different rooms, and not just a huge one. The walls give that extra privacy, which could be great if you have a party and you'd like to be separated from the rest of the crowd. Perfect place to order for a lunch meeting for your office. Quick and semi healthy. I chose the chicken salad croissant. So delicious! Cesar salad with their original Cesar dressing that is perfection. Pasta salad had good flavor as well. The only complaint I have is that the bread they serve on the side is very hard. I'd recommend it if it's on sale or available as a sample. If you want a lemony treat - like I did - don't get this because your itch will remain unscratched. Chocolate Croissant: Uh...it was empty. Check the photo. The presentation is nice, but there is so little chocolate in this thing, Wonka would cry. Plus, the croissant is a bit doughier than I normally prefer. Overall, nothing special here. Nutella Croissant Muffin: This was the best item out of my selection because of the Nutella - something store bought and not unique to La Madeleine. Honestly my least favorite location I have ever been. The service is the slowest and they are always backed up when I come in. The food quality is subpar. I got a lemon tart and the entire crust was soggy and the yellow lemon part had a film on it like it was old. They never have certain bakery items in stock like the caramel cream brûlée and with the bakery experience alone, I have made the decision never eat the lunch or dinner menu simply based on the subparness of their bakery selection. This is the only location convenient to me, so this review is specific to this location. Showed up about 8:10-8:15 on a Saturday. Sign on door says they close at 10. Hell, even if they close at 9 as the sign says they do on non-weekend days, that's not at all cutting it close. Even so, the staff couldn't be more annoyed by having customers walk through the doors. The back parts of the restaurant were dark - I get it, they want to limit what to clean before close. I can respect that. No cashier, though? Food already put away? I don't get that. You see all this BS on TV about supporting businesses, and you're rewarded with contempt for doing so. Weird way to do business, and we really should have left at this point. We placed a simple order, and both ordered Chicken Pesto Pasta. There is no line, only 1-2 other customer groups already eating. 15 minutes later, our overheated pasta shows up. My daughter got the vegetable soup and hers was also watered down. On top of that when we got there, we stood there almost 7 minutes and no one said a word. By the time the food came, it was 15 minutes later without butternut squash and with onions. I took it back and said it was wrong, and they replied with the pre-mixed response. They told me the only thing I could eat was a salad. I strongly dislike salads, I'm not a rabbit. I said if that's the only thing I could have then okay. They never offered a refund, I had to ask and the reason I did is due to the large price difference. High Time for an over-haul and updated menu. What used to a be quaint restaurant with a French Bakery has become a disappointing eating experience. I am surprised they are still open. The bakery case was lovely - the kids went wild over the colorful array of cookies and treats. We were greeted by a friendly lady! Then we got in line to order our food and I suddenly felt like I was transported into an all inclusive food line trapped on a cruise ship. The menu was disappointing and barely "French". No evidence of fresh ingredients, spices or anything other than croutons on the onion soup. The experience of ordering at the kitchen counter, paying and then going to a table is unpleasant enough. I admit that I have never liked that arrangement. The kitchen had 4 people huddled and apparently, doing nothing useful. The lady who took our order also went around to the end of the line to take our payment. Do you tip for that kind of service ? Before you even taste the food? The food was just disappointing - the salad was warm & limp, the Quiche was dried out and room temp. It wasn't fun watching the cook flip my half Quiche on the warming tray before sliding it on to my plate !? (no words). The French Onion soup was expensive and heavily salted. It actually had no onions I could detect, no cheese topping or crust. I'm guessing it came from a mix that someone made without enough water. Uncomfortable seating, but the table was clean. Outdoor seating is a plus in my book, but you really need to have REAL food, not commissary frozen entrees. It's a sadistic joke to consider La Madeline's a restaurant and certainly not a French restaurant. This place needs waitstaff, a chef, and a new menu in the worst way. The male cashier seemed new. He was struggling ringing up my order and didn't have answers to my questions, he had to ask for help. My sandwich was fine but my salad was very wet wilted lettuce. My granddaughter asked for Parmesan cheese and I went to give it to her and she freaked out because there was a dead fly in it. Someone should have caught that.
