I really love the food here, especially their croissants. However, since the time of their grand opening, the service has gradually become terrible. Food orders are incorrect, your food is delayed, the line at the counter is led to be way too long even when they seem to have plenty of other staff that can take on another register. Service and timeliness overall need to improve. I believe that is the largest complaint from other Yelpers as well. I have not returned in a while due to the last visit being so poor. read more

This is a fast food restaurant disguised as a French bakery to justify the higher prices that they charge for disgusting low grade food. I ordered a turkey/brie sandwich that was two pieces of over-baked bread, a folded over lump of commercial turkey slices like you would find at a grocery store, covered with a blob of mayonnaise and no brie. The spinach salad was served on a flat plate and the salad was not tossed and was spilling off the plate. The server had their thumb in the salad when they brought it to the table! The place is staffed with young inexperienced workers who wear these fake-French outfits and have no clue how to work in a restaurant setting and have no idea about the concept of customer service, and it is obvious they have received little or no training. The food prep and presentation are sloppy and poorly done. As an eat-in lunch place it is a waste of time and money, and you are better off going to to Panera or Chipotle. I predict this franchise will follow the path of Quiznos and disappear in a year or two. There are simply too many other good choices close by for the same or better price. read more

It is so difficult to write this as I have been waiting for La Madeleine to open as I enjoyed this place thoroughly in Texas. The food is still great but this location is not doing so well. First, we ordered a breakfast combo and it was to come with a croissant. The person taking our order stated they were out of croissants. Hmmm a French place out of croissants? Weird, but OK we subbed for toast. As we move through the line to pay we notice numerous croissants out fresh in their display case. We get to the register and ask the cashier if we are able to have those croissants as we understand the person taking our order stated they were out. She responds "I don't see why not, and I don't know why they told you we were out, we definitely have croissants". The cashier then asked the manager to correct our orders on the screen in order to not receive toast when the food is delivered. The manager neglected to help his staff, ignored the cashier when she asked for help, and only handed off his card so she could fumble through fixing it on her own. She was very nice and appeared so flustered by how her manager reacted, that I simply waited patiently, thanked her for assisting us, and apologized for the inconvenience. I had read the reviews prior to attending and knew they were having some "opening challenges" but I can see where those challenges lie. The manager on duty did not appear to help his staff nor did he ensure to tell the person taking orders that they do in fact have a very important item available on their menu. The manager happened to be the one delivering our food and he did not even offer an apology for the confusion and dropped off our food in a rapid fashion and took off before we could ask about our coffees that were not yet delivered. I hope to try this location again and am keeping my fingers crossed that things improve because it would be such a shame to have this wonderful food but lack of successful operations/ management. read more

La Madeleine has been my "go to" breakfast restaurant since way before Covid as well as thru the pandemic once lockdown ended. Their service and the quality of their food has always been excellent, Until Now. Today, the croissant tasted as if it had been bought at Costco and was a day old... (note, their fresh, soft flaky croissants have been one of the big draws for me). I had to go up to the counter to request butter and jam that,, in the past,, was served with the breakfast.. The scrambled eggs were ok. The large latte, which has been another favorite but, today it was weak and tasted no better than a plain cup of coffee. On our first visit to the Chandler, Arizona location, we waited 45 minutes for our food. We asked for help from several managers, each said they would check on our order. No one came back with our food or even an update. We finally had to ask for our money back, leaving hungry and upset. It's a shame. I remember this restaurant from the Scottsdale location many years ago and wanted to try it again. Unfortunately, we will never step back into the restaurant. I have been wanting to visit la Madeleine since moving to Chandler and today my boyfriend and I swung by for brunch. Inside the restaurant it had tasteful french cafe vibes but an efficient flow similar to Panera. They enforced social distancing and masks well. There were no tables available inside and customers started moving the signs blocking the tables closed for social distancing. The manager was a little feisty but I appreciate that she is taking Covid seriously and stood her ground making those patrons choose patio seating or take their meals to go. We chose a table outside where there was plenty of seating. The food was delicious! I had the turkey brie baked sandwich with a side Caesar salad and cup of the french onion soup. The caramel macchiato was perfect and generously sized. The menu had several options that I'd love to try out so we will be back again! read more

Me: I don't know how to review this without feeling like a traitor to my love of French food. Craig: Well, let's be honest and start with the good. The flavors were good. Me: They were! They really, really were. And the bread was the star. Craig: Yeah, we might leave with some bread. Me: But the entrées were lukewarm--after coming from the kitchen seconds before. Craig: Literally. Me: If they had been hot, they'd have been great. But it seemed like they had been sitting out a while, which I can't explain as I customized my order. Craig: The desserts were also somewhat lacking. Me: Yeah, such a disappointment! It seemed like they were a few days old. Craig: But it's Monday. Me: I love the decor, though. The rolling pins and bread boards and China plates. It looks like a restaurant you *might* find in southern France--if it were Americanized. Craig: You could convince yourself of that. But I do like that there was a real fire. Me: Yes, which is exactly what one needs in southern Arizona. But the staff were all very nice. Craig: They were. And *very* new. Me: I want to give this a second chance because I think it has potential. Craig: It does. I was gonna say that as well. Me: But I really, really hope all the food is fresh and hot next time. If it were, I could see this as a place I'd come back to a lot, and it'd be at least four stars for me. As a side note, the ordering process is a bit of a hassle. Oh my, what a disappointment. The facility itself, is beautiful. The employees look professional speaking French. The issue is they do not attend to their customers. Not once did someone check on us. We had to return the coffee because I had grounds, and then 10 minutes later we got the cup back we're nearly finished with their breakfast. No apologies just all this happen sometimes " trying to perfect it" .Also had to go ask her to go boxes. We have enjoyed eat there for several years. Our favorite dish is the quiche. It appears "corporate " has changed the recipe thus ruining what was the best quiche around. It's sad when you find something you enjoy only to have it made out of store as a corporate cost saving measure. Great if you eat in the restaurant, terrible if you order to go. Ordered a salad with salmon (a $7 addition), got order from Door Dash -- no salmon. Called and was told they would "comp it next time." We asked for a refund and they said we'd have to call Door Dash to resolve. Ok, great but here I am with a salad and no salmon and my dinner sucks. It's the restaurant's fault, we paid extra for something we didn't get, and they basically don't care. So don't order to go from here. read more

I was there for the grand opening today. They gave us little menus with specific items we could order, presumably to test different parts of the menu. I didn't like anything on my menu except the tomato basil soup so I just ordered that, and they gave me three cups of it (to keep order sizes consistent, I assume). I was okay with this, but EVERY staff member had to make a comment about my food choice, which was a bit annoying after the second or third time. I finally just said, "oh, yeah, I'm just a picky eater I guess". When I went to the bakery to get my dessert, that person I had made my comment to said, "oh, here comes Miss Picky Eater." This just really rubbed me the wrong way, especially after having so many comments about my food choices already. I felt almost judged for my choice in what to eat, and it made me pretty uncomfortable to be there. This is a shame, too, because the food was really good, and I had been really excited for this place to open. I'm not sure if I will return, but hopefully this was just a one time thing. read more

Last 2 visits items were not available "we ran out" (mid to late afternoon at both stores), poorly made, and in the case of the Beef and Parmesan Potatoes - salty and full of fat. I give the restaurant 3 stars because of their bakery and friendly staff, but main dishes including the salads are falling flat. read more

I live right around the corner, but have never been here before. That's because I never noticed that they have a French Dip on the menu. I used to work at restaurant that had a really good French Dip, and ever since then I've been on a quest to find a perfect one. If a restaurant has one, I'll try it! This was good. I ordered it without the onions and added Swiss cheese. The horseradish mayo is a nice touch, and the Au Jus was well made. The only thing missing was that the beef wasn't medium rare, but I understand how difficult that would be to keep on such a low volume item. If I could get a notification when they've got fresh, medium rare roast beef, I'd be there in a heartbeat! Service was friendly, the restaurant was clean and well laid out. read more

I had the croque monsieur with a side of tomato pesto pasta and I enjoyed it! I'm no expert on french cuisine so I can't speak much to authenticity, but in my opinion it both were delicious. The croque monsieur is pretty massive though, with a generous amount of ham in the middle, so if you're looking for something light, this might be a lot to take on. I also ordered a fruit tart to go and it was great! It's not a large tart, medium-ish, but it has a good variety of fresh fruit and good custard so I enjoyed it! The ordering concept is a little confusing for the first time (you take a look at a menu then walk up to someone to order. I think if you get a salad or soup you then take a tray along the station and eventually make it to the register) but the staff were very nice and helpful about it. Overall, the bistro/cafe feel is cute and after this first visit I'm interested in coming back since the rest of the menu looked great also and I'd like to try more of the pastries read more

I ordered take out from here, and I was pretty disappointed. The breakfast croissant sandwich was bland, small, contained very little meat, and came with no sides but cost almost $9. The quiche Lorraine was awful! The crust was hard as a rock, and the quiche was strangely thin and tasted dry, bland, and just gross. The ham and cheese were concentrated in a layer at the very bottom, with a layer of dry, tasteless egg on top. I had to throw it out after two bites, it was that inedible. It also came with no sides, and for $8 it seemed overpriced. I make cheap, easy quiches often at home with store-bought crust and basic ingredients that are a thousand times better than this. I did enjoy the $12 box of mixed tarts and parfaits I ordered, but they were just decent and not amazing. I will not order from here again. The food was extremely subpar and overpriced. read more

The only positive comment is my croissant was buttery, flaky and delicious. Our over-easy eggs still had runny whites and were so greasy, it took four napkins to soak it up. The ambiance, food and staff are really good. Not too expensive and it's a step above fast food. Big drawback is they regularly do not have basic menu items available. For example, arrived for dinner on a Saturday night at 7:00 PM and their deserts counter had less than half of their offerings. Tried to order a crepe dish and they were out of crepes. On three separate occasions I have tried to buy chocolate croissants and they had run out as early as 3:00 PM. Good place to dine at just have a couple of menu choices in mind when you order. read more

The service at the counter was accurate and friendly, and the service at the table was great! Went here for sandwiches as was told they have great sandwiches but that was far from accurate. We ordered the French dip and we were disappointed. The roast beef looked and tasted like it came from a package you can buy in the deli and not the good kind. It looked rubbery and I bet if I tried it would have bounced against the wall. Friendly welcome and overview of the menu. The pastries are exquisite and very tasty. The ham and cheese danish is fantastic -- worth the wait, slow service, rude manager and forgotten meal. They appear to be working out several kinks in their system. Laurie, the barista, is lovely! She kindly remade a macchiato that was served cold rather than hot. I found this place by chance. I was driving to the mall and always come off the 101 side. I happen to be coming from the west and saw it. I made a U turn and went in. I tried a couple of their tarts. I ordered the lemon and chocolate tarts to go. I got home put them in the fridge for a hour before I was able to eat them. The chocolate one was good. The lemon was fantastic. The whip cream was nice and soft not hard like it was in a cooler over night. This trip we decided for breakfast. I had the quiche with ham. It was pretty good. I wish it had more ham in it though. The croissants are yummy too. Everything seem to be fresh. What a great place. I will be back again to try a different quiche. I will ask I can pay for more ham or bacon in the quiche. read more

Went here once a few months ago to try it out since I had interviewed there. The food I had was good but pretty pricey. Always very crowded. I noticed a couple unsanitary things going on. I did see one girl touching her hair and she didn't wash her hands before continuing her task. Then one girl was mixing a salad with tongs. The tongs fell out of the mixing bowl onto the counter. Instead of getting new tongs, she just put the same pair right back in. I don't think it's a good place to work. The GM that interviewed me admitted that they have extremely high turnover. When they first opened he said he was planning to hire 70 people but he only needed 30. Sounds just great doesn't it? read more
