The 94/93 (to Grand Place) tram stops are only a block away, and the Carrefour Express Vleurgat (a local grocery with a wide selection of ready-to-eat/drink options) is about the same distance. A short walk north on Avenue Louise to Chaussée de Vleurgat and around to Place Albert Leemans will provide you numerous options for restaurants (see review on Le Bugatti) and pubs. So, as far as location, I was quite satisfied. The hotel is quaint, and the staff was quite friendly and accommodating. I had e-mailed the staff prior to my arrival requesting that a clothing iron be available in the room during my stay (a trouser press wasn't going to cut it), and was pleased to find it waiting for me when I checked into my room. My room was situated on the 8th floor with an eastward view over Avenue Lousie, which was nice, especially being able to open the balcony doors to let in the breeze. The rooms are basic, but clean, well-maintained with a comfortable bed. For simplicity on our arrival day, we ate dinner at the restaurant in the lobby. Finding a table is never issue because it seemed like no one was ever down there. The food was good and satisfied what we were looking for. They offer a daily breakfast buffet for about 24€, but we never tried it out. I generally just walked to Carrefour for any breakfast items on the way to the tram. Overall, a pleasant experience with a very accommodating staff. Should work take me back to Brussels, I will likely opt to stay here again.

After my first couple of stays, they realized I was a regular and would leave me nice notes on Mechelen post cards. This hotel is clean and gorgeous. You will find peeves of art tucked away. Each time I stay, I discover something new! The first few times I had a basic room that was brilliant but later I started getting upgrades to more unique rooms. One room was a suite with a double sided fireplace. The beds were always comfortable and I enjoyed the modern aesthetic. The hotel restaurant is amazing. I have enjoyed many dinners here dining on the regional specialty, Michelin Chicken, but my favorite part of every dinner was their accompanying salad with cheese croquettes! However, I must say that while I would take the opportunity to dine elsewhere for dinner, I would never miss a breakfast there. Breakfast at the Mercure is epic! A buffet style with standard European fare: breads, meat and cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, muesli, smoked salmon and lox. However, they have a woman that would cook eggs to order and she was amazing! She would do omelets or however you wanted your eggs with sausage or bacon. Also included was a gorgeous coffee bar where you could make a latte, cappuccino, espresso or whatever coffee concoction you desire. Located in a nice area- a small river in front- across the bridge is a supermarket and there are nice restaurants and chocolate shops around. A short walk to the city square and several historical sites. Prices were standard and fare. I never felt gouged and enjoyed the simple elegance of the entire experience. The room I had was ok but the toilet was more or less in the open area of the room. This would have been a bit problematic if rooming with anyone. The staff were helpful and efficient. There was normal housekeeping in effect. The breakfast room was large and well supplied with all the normal items plus an omelet chef on standby for orders. The neighborhood was central with plenty of shops, restaurants, parking, and groceries nearby.

This place is an architects dream come true. We had the upper flat with the full red designed seethrough bathroom, a fantastic sun roof without curious neighbour glimpses. Great details, full kitchen and a fantastic breakfast, provided by the super nice host. The surroundings are great too, nice little city, close distance to Brussels or Antwerpen (approx 20 Mins by car). We will come again and stay longer!

You cannot expect a better location for the price in the heart of Brussels…read more Some reviews say it's a bit noisy. Others mention the deadly stairs. But that's the tradeoff for being in this location. Minutes from the Central station. Steps from the Grand Place and the old town center. Endless dining options. All within a stone's throw away. You cannot ask for more when visiting and staying in an old European town. If you get lucky, you'll get a room with a balcony view of the street, which is unforgettable. Not only that, but you are only 20 minutes from the airport. What more can you ask for?

I will highly recommend AVOIDING this hotel & triple checking your charges if you do stay here.

The rooms are dorm-like, very simple and small. The bathroom does have a hair dryer and there is a desk with a mirror. The towel warmer wouldn't turn on and the shower door needs a little jiggering to fully close. They do not clean the rooms daily but you can go to the front desk to ask for new towels. Overall, Meininger was a fine place to stay for sleeping as we were rarely in the room, but not sure if I would book again.

Staff was helpful (not far enough to say friendly) and most spoke some english. Spacious rooms and clean. The photos of the hotel exterior look charming, the inside is a bit sterile in it's decor. If I returned on a business trip I would stay here given convenience to office. Vacationing in Brussels....I would not likely return to this hotel.
