A quaint café about 7 minutes away from the Château Frontenac. The staff was friendly and very patient with me while I tried to order in French. She replied with English for me when I was struggling at the end. I appreciated her patience while I tried. We ordered a vanilla latte and a matcha latte. A plus for having lactose free milk even if it's for an extra cost. Both drinks were really good and the matcha was not too bitter. The raspberry cheesecake (un gâteau du fromage aux framboise) was creamy smooth with a perfect balance of sweet and tart. We thoroughly enjoyed 2 breakfasts here.  My husband enjoyed the chocolate almond pastry along with some delicious hot chocolate.  I had great breakfasts with an apple crumb pastry, a pecan maple muffin and a small cranberry orange loaf with walnuts.  (if you ask they will warm up the pastries for you) Everything was delicious and the staff is so friendly.  Thanks so much! read more

Great London Fog and their quiche both type they have were amazing. I've never had quiche like that. It's definitely not an American quiche! As someone flying in from the land of obesity and bald eagles, we were a little worried about having no French knowledge, however, the servers knew how to speak American football and freedom, and were kind enough to help give directions along with providing a non dairy option for my lactose intolerant brother. All that aside, I would love if we had this kind of cafe in Cali. This place is nice on the eyes, it's pretty small, so definitely a place I would gate keep, and the coffee was really good. This is a popular bakery chain in Quebec City and we saw two of their locations on our touristy walk about town and in the vicinity of Fairmont le Chateau Frontenac. We just wanted a light snack around mid-day and it worked well for us. This location was crowded but the line moved along and we were even lucky enough to nab a table for 4. We just tried a sampling of 4 items - a chocolate almond croissant, a cinnamon bun, a waffle, and a small custard pie. They were all fine, except for the waffle which was a bit dried out. read more

Went to have a coffee and chocolate croissant. The iced latte was delicious, but I was disappointed in the chocolate croissant. It seems that they may cook them the day before, because it wasn't airy and fresh. It was also sticky on top. They do have huge croissants and a good offering of pastries and sandwiches. I am used to pain au chocolat in France and these did not meet the French standards. The service was good and it's a very cute spot. Came here early before the morning rush and so there were plenty of seats available. Service was great, they gave us plenty of space while we looked and decided on what to get, plus they offered to heat up the croissants. The size of the croissants were huge! Although taste and texture was so-so, it was missing that buttery flakiness that I would have preferred. "Entered happy but left disappointed " What a busy place! Great location on one of the popular tourist street near Chateau Frontenac. Walking by you cannot help but to go in when you see the beautiful croissants and cappuccinos enjoyed by patrons. Unfortunately it appears the service is rather Selective. Ringing up a cappuccino and even verbally confirming a single shot she would turn around and hand me a cup of drip coffee! Having quickly correct that situation then the barista spreads my two drink order 10 minutes apart until the first is cold. For the cappuccino she just dumped the steamed milk in - no effort, no finesse - unlike the ones she made earlier. Perhaps they were busy and frustrated. Still understand that go out for coffee is really about nice experience. The croissant was average by Quebec standards. You are better to steer clear of this place and head to Croquembouche on rue St Joseph for excellent cappuccino and amazing baked items. read more

I visited Quebec City for sightseeing. Quebec City is beautiful and people are very nice. I was very hungry and dropped by La Mason Smith. I got Salada, Yogurt, and panini. They were so good. Go to any Cafe Smith but this one. We came twice since it is across the road from our Hotel Clarendon. The customer service is horrible! They ignored us the first time , luckily one of the 3 girls there finally decided to serve us. The second day the two girls saw us come in and ignored us till I asked if I could get help. The food is good though..... Ask them to warm up the food though. During our 2 night stay in Quebec this was the coffee spot downstairs from our rental. Coffee is great. Croissants are huge although not crispy/flaky - i.e. not authentic. Tourists beware:- if you don't speak French, expect a whole bunch of attitude and prepare to be belittled - customer service is appalling and staff unable to cope with more than 2 customers at a time. Bad service by this girl, short, wearing glasses, who took the payment from me for a cup of brewed coffee, then walked away without returning with my coffee. I stood by the pick up counter right by the cashier for about 5 min, there were 6 female staff chatting away while I was waiting for my coffee. No customers were waiting by the pick up counter and no one in line. She just walked around behind the counter, making a drink for herself, and I waited and waited thinking perhaps they have to brew a new pot of coffee. Finally, I called another staff who was sitting behind the counter by the cashier to ask if coffee is ready because it didn't look like she was making a new pot of coffee at all. I explained to another staff that the person who took my money just walked away, and I've been waiting here for quite some time. She then asked what kind of coffee I want, turned around and poured coffee from the pump carafe right behind the cashier til. No apologies for the wait or mix up.
