This centrally located bar has become the meeting place for most of my friends. Minutes from the Zocalo, minutes from Barrio Xochimilco, it's quickly becoming my local place. I started with a tasting of 5 mezcals. Verde by far is my favorite. I also asked the waiter to surprise me with a cocktail with Mezcal Verde. It came with a popsicle. Mission accomplished! On my most recent visit we all had the Mezcal Margarita which may have spoiled me for all other margaritas in the future. There is something about the smokiness that meshes with the sweet tart of the margarita mix that just sings. Check out the rooftop bar to pass the time in style with good friends.

Excellent mezcal tasting at a reasonable price. They also have cocktails and other spirits. The covered rooftop terrace is nice and still accessible while it rains. Service was efficient and friendly. This a good option for drinks after dinner.

Mezcal and Munchies This is, kinda, your prototypical Oaxacan mezcaleria. They have an impressive selection of mezcal, including a healthy selection of their own product all of it very very good. You've got folks who are happy to either leave you to your own devices, help you just enough for you to hurt yourself, or spend hours chatting with you about the specifics of the mezcal you're drinking, their own favorites, and whatnot. There's also mezcal-appropriate food, i.e., nothing fancy, but all of it designed to help cut the alcohol (oh those fries!). There's also a roof-top which can get crowded, and the small high-top tables indoors perfect to just spend a few hours of the crazy afternoon heat. In short, well worth going to!

This place has such a cool fun vibe, we sat in the upstairs patio. Our server had great knowledge of mezcal and was also very attentive.

Pretty good bar: snacks, tons of different mexican beers, and lots of different kinds of mezcal. Good service also.

Of course, if you're hoping to enjoy more "authentic" Oaxaca culture, you can definitely sip on a shot glass of Mezcal instead.

I thought it was funny when I got the menu and the food menu was only one page while the drink menu was five pages. The outside of the restaurant is blue-ish and the restaurant has multiple rooms. The ceviche del dia ($190 MXN) was a little sweet and not as tart or sour as others I've had. The tacos de sirloin ($170) were really good and were our group's favorite. The taquitos dorados de mole negro ($140) were okay; there was no meat just in case you were wondering. The aguachile rojo de camaron ($190) were good. The esquite con tuetano ($100) was not like a typical corn in a cup but it was closer to a corn soup. For drinks I had the pequeño gigante ($210) which was good. The paloma madura and paloma margarita were both favorites among our group. We went during the day and it wasn't that busy but supposedly it gets way busier and livelier at night.

We were able to get a seat right away and the servers were super helpful. My friend wanted to try some mezcal and they let us taste a couple before choosing. We sat at the restaurant instead of the bar because it was cuter and I wanted food too. I tried two of their fruity mezcal drinks and loved both. I forget the names but one had watermelon, and the other had coconut and lime. I ordered cheese stuffed plantains with mole and this was soooo good. It was very filling too!

David was our tour guide - spoke good English, which was great because we're kinda new to mezcal (my Spanish is passable, but I would've missed a lot). He asked us about the things we liked to drink, and set us each up with 3 tasting glasses. Oh, it was amazing! Our favorite ended with an aftertaste of roses. We shared our little cups, so in all we tasted 12 mezcals (David brought us an extra round). Went back a few nights later, sat in the bar and Olivia mixed us some delicious cocktails, and David brought back samples of the mezcals from the cocktails. Sigh! I'd highly recommend reserving a tasting with David - it was just us, and we had his full attention. He is the most gracious and knowledgeable of hosts, and I feel I was properly introduced to mezcal.

The cards were in Spanish only as well as the bartender telling us about them was great but my partner doesn't speak Spanish so I had to translate.

My friend quickly said okay not understanding what had just happened until it hit her that she had shushed her. We had reservations and were ready to drop a lot of money for drinks but we asked a server who that lady was and he explained that it was the owner so we got up and left! Many of us were Mexican, others American but we were not about to be support such a place and be treated like that. Super super rude! The servers were nice and respectful though. So- again- don't come here. We weren't even loud but apparently the owner wants a library type of place- lame.

From the moment we arrived, the owner was snotty, dismissive, and completely disrespectful. She immediately assumed that because we were a larger group, we would be unruly -- which was absolutely not the case. We are a group of adults celebrating a milestone birthday, and we expected to be treated with basic courtesy. I wasn't even given the opportunity to try a drink before feeling judged and unwelcome. Instead of hospitality, we were met with rudeness and hostility. There was no effort to communicate calmly or work with us despite the fact that we had planned ahead and made reservations responsibly. I have never been treated the way she treated us. It was embarrassing and disappointing, especially on such a special occasion. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I would not recommend this establishment. No one should be treated the way we were!

The "informative" slash educational piece was maybe 10 minutes of basic knowledge about the production of mezcal. You can then decide between 3, 4, or 5 one-ounce pours of mezcal starting at $550 pesos and increasing from there. I ended up trying four mezcals and honestly didn't love any of them. I think one of my biggest qualms is that they were all warm - not just room temp but like notably warm. I probably would have liked them a lot more had they been a little chilled. Maybe mezcal isn't intended to be cool, so I'm fully acknowledging that this might just be my preference, but I found them nearly unpalatable because of it. They sell the mezcal by the bottle as well but I didn't end up buying anything. Overall I'm glad I tried it, but certainly wouldn't be back, and honestly I think you could easily do a "self led" mezcal tour for cheaper and get just as much out of it.
