One of the hostesses was noticeably rude at the start, which set an uncomfortable tone. After being seated, our waiter hasn't been outright unkind, but there's a clear difference in how we're being treated compared to other guests. As a same-sex couple, it feels like we're not being received as warmly, even though he seems to be making an effort to remain professional. As a Puerto Rican, that's honestly a bit disappointing and feels out of place. That said, the food itself has been very good.

The hot sauce on the table was nice, not too hot but a good kick, I usually do not like habanero based hot sauces but this was good! The Queso Frito was interesting in flavors & textures, delicious. El Conflicto was perfect, all the flavor of a pina colada but without the heaviness of syrups & sugar. The Pollo Borracho was super flavorful & filling, chicken cooked to perfection falling off the bone. My fiancé had the Carne Frita, it was super tender & a well balanced dish. Service was friendly & attentive. My only complaint- we were so full we couldn't even look at the dessert menu! Guess we will just have to go back.

I'd just been complaining that I hadn't gotten any really great desserts since we'd arrived in Puerto Rico several days ago. Most places we ate had flan and Tres Leches and, while I enjoy those options, I was hoping to find something else. This place did the trick. It's tiny, and the desserts of the day are nicely displayed in a small case at the front of the store. The owner/baker came out to greet us and described each of the options. We chose a lemon tart, a raspberry cheesecake, and a classic cinnamon roll. Each one was delicious. The tart was very fresh, with a strong lemon flavor, a texture that melts in your mouth, and a flaky thin crust. The cheesecake flavor was very light. The first flavor of raspberry being strong, but the cheesecake flavor following. The cinnamon roll was excellent. It is a perfect balance of cinnamon and the dough remained dense and didn't dry out, even though we waited several hours before eating it. Although we don't plan to be back in Ponce any time soon, I wanted to ensure a good review so other's may enjoy the beautifully made desserts at this small local bakery.

So when I finally caught the place open on my last visit and saw there were still treats left. The moment I stepped in, I was warmly greeted by Jaime (owner) himself, who took the time to kindly walk me through each dessert available. It was honestly hard to choose, they all looked incredible, so I ended up going with two. First, the manchego cheesecake. Oh wow. It was absolutely divine, creamy, just the right amount of sweet, with a crust that had the perfect crunch and flavor. Then there were the guava bars, what a dream. The guava paste had a beautiful, balanced sweetness that made every bite feel like a little celebration and as if you are eating a fresh guava. This place is something special. If you're anywhere near town, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to one of these amazing desserts. You'll be so glad you did.
