Waiter never came around , brought out lomo in a hot plate that only kept it warm for 5 min at the most and did not cook it to our liking , called for assistance they gave us a another empty hot plate to transport lomo . By that time sides were cold .. when we asked to speak to manager we waited 30 min .. only so they can tell us to bad you asked for it , it's a big piece of meat and that happens 290 dollars and we only had mash potatoes and bread ! La Pampa is a must have! This is our third year in a row making this a part of our vacation plans, and it was better this year than we remember. The atmosphere is perfect for a romantic dinner. Reservations are best, but they've worked us in even without one. Be prepared to spend some money but I promise it's worth it. The pate that comes with the bread is so good. The bread is a soft crumb sourdough baked to perfection. Every year we start with the octopus appetizer and it was the perfect blend of tender, butter, charred and delicious. We have also ordered the bone marrow and I would definitely recommend that as well. All three years we have ordered the parradilla Argentina which is a meat platter. It was seasoned just right, and we recommend ordering a cup of the basil cream soup to go with it. The soup provides a freshness and acts as a palate cleanser between bites of delicious grilled meats! I have also ordered the lamb in past visits and it was cooked just right and delicious. We end the meal every year with the fried ice cream (helado frito) that has a raspberry sauce. It is so good. Every one should come here!! We don't drink alcohol, so I don't have insight on their drink menu. But service is professional, attentive, and helpful. read more

I had heard several things about this restaurant. One consistent thing I'd heard was that it was expensive. I've paid more before for a meal. $32 and change for my entree and a tea. No biggie. Was it worth it? Nope. Let me start with the service. It was alright except that the waiter kept wanting to pick up my plate even when food was still on it and I was not finished yet. Several times. The food. I ordered the arracheras at the waiter's recommendation since it was my first time there. He said the beef was juicy and it was. It was also very thin. Very. The flavor was average. It came with a small amount of spring greens with raw onion slices. I opted for no tomato slices. That's it. They had olive oil and balsamic on the table. They brought salt in a small saucer. I didn't use it because it had something in it that looked like maybe a crumb or some left over food from the previous user perhaps who had also used their fingers to salt their food. They didn't bring a little scoop for the salt so I'm guessing that's the way they bring it to the table for everyone. Yuck. No thanks. I don't want salt that other people have put their fingers in to pick up and salt their food with. I DID like the bread that was on the table. I do low carb, so I only had a small piece with a taste of the tablespoon size serving of pâté they bring out with the bread. My least favorite thing: the fly that kept landing on our food...over and over and over and over again. The fly was a third in our party of two for the duration of our meal. Irritating. I'll start by saying that without question, for a year I ate at La Pampa three or four times a week when they were in McAllen (about 11 years ago). I used to LOVE this place. They had the best steak I've eaten outside of Argentina!! Today, I'm giving them three stars and I'm being generous.. It's a little heart breaking for me. The ambiance is okay. Nothing even close to what it used to be. Before, with the way it was decorated, it always felt like we were on a trip through a cattle ranch in the Pampa region. Now, it seems like they're not allowed to decorate aside from a few branding irons. The location, inside and out, is definitely a step down from their McAllen location. I felt the seating was a bit crammed. The jugo de carne is practically the first somewhat-solid thing babies eat in Argentina. I absolutely loved theirs back in the day, but their current one tasted like it came out of a packet. It didn't even have bits of meat in it. My arrachera was cooked just right and it tasted good, but not any better or worse than any other skirt steak anywhere else. My wife's churrasco was cooked perfect, but had no taste at all. I have eaten at plenty of hole in the wall Argentine places that had the same quality of meat for about a quarter the price. I ordered the mixed meat plate. The Molliejas were great. They neglected to tell me they were out of morcilla which I was really looking forward to and I got average sausage on the plate instead. The chicken was very dry but flavored well.The ribs and skirt steak were pretty average quality but good. Our bill came to 117 dollars and we probably won't be back. They don't have rye. They can't make a Manhattan, don't know how to make a Boulevardier, then charge you $20 for a watered-down mess of a classic cocktail. They tell you a steak is medium rare when it's medium well. Next attempt, they tell you a steak is medium rare when it's cold and bloody. This is allegedly a fine dining steakhouse, but it's a poor show, and you should never order steak here. If you're going to spend money and eat well, go to Madeira. We ran to "town" for shopping and decided to stop into La Pampa to try something new. While it was a bit tricky figuring out where the entrance was located, once inside we could not be happier. I grew up in Harlingen, and my best friend while I was living in Austin (who still is my best friend) had never been down to the Valley before. So we drove down to Harlingen during the middle of the week and I showed him around. Since we were in the area, he wanted to see Brownsville, because a fellow sailor he knew was from there. After spending the day at South Padre Island, we loaded up his truck and went down. I did my homework earlier in the day, and ran into La Pampa as I was Googling. So there we were. It was damn good. And a bit pricey, but worth it. We had a bottle of the house merlot - which was alright for it being the house beverage. $25. I drank half of it. Along with some iced tea. While we waited for our food, they gave us a small bread bun loaf along with butter, sauces, and pate. For our appetizer, we had prosciutto stuffed mushrooms, which were FANTASTIC. There were other garnishes on there, and they were sitting in some sauce. It was $6.50 for 10 mushrooms. Worth it. For my entree, I had a 10oz medium rare tenderloin w/ bacon and some steak fries instead of salad. Amazing. The tenderloin was juicy and tender, and the bacon added some light additional background flavor that spotlighted the beef. And the steak fries were crisp and mealy and hot. $30. For dessert, we both ordered French Vanilla ice cream wrapped in Argentinean bread and fried, then drizzled and decorated with fruit syrups. It wasn't a small portion, either - about the size of a tennis ball. In sum, we spent about $124.59 for the both of us. Before the $25 tip. Nice interior. Intimate lighting, candles, dark and thick wooden tables and chairs, stained walls. Actual linens for napkins and tablecloth. Utensils were positioned correctly. Professional staff. There's also a bar. You don't need to dress up to go. At least be dressed casually and showered. read more
