We just had the best meal since coming to France at Le Jardin d'Amalula (The Garden of Amalula)…read more When we asked the owner what Amalula means, she said it is a contraction of the first names of her daughters: Amandine, Lucile, and Laurine. Laurine is the chef. The outside of the restaurant is inconspicuous; in fact, we walked right past it. But you walk down a corridor, through a small courtyard, and then into the small restaurant. But it's the garden out back that is beautiful. That's where we sat. My wife had Le Provençale, a tartine (toast) with bush cheese, red fruits jam, dried figs, dried tomatoes, and parma ham (like prosciutto). Delicious! I chose the plat du jour based on the owner's recommendation. Not sure what it's called but it was a tartine with tuna tartare & passion fruit, chutney with mango, pineapple, & red pepper, slices of avocado, and orange zest with pink berries. I don't know how they do it. Amazing flavor combinations. Glad we found this place with plenty of time to go back another time or two. Highly recommend!

They had a menu translated in english as well to remove any question on what you are ordering. We sat outside and on the Terrance and really enjoyed both. The food was delicious and beautifully presented.

Given its location behind Europe's largest conference center, this is a skill they seemed to have mastered. That said, we ordered several appetizers, mains, and desserts, and the food itself was delicious. The standout dish was the prawns. If this is the Mediterranean diet, the seafood must be eating very well--I've never seen prawns so large. One was nearly the size of my head.

Yum! The seafood pasta did not dissapoint. We were searching for a good dinner place in Cannes…read moreand stumbled upon Ciro. Surprisngly for the middle of summer, they had plenty of seats available, though it's best to make a reservation. The staff speak English, however, if you want to avoid calling, you can also make a reservation online via Trip Advisor. We got there when the restaurant opened at 7 and were the first ones there. We saw the large portions in review photos and opted to skip the appetizers. Good thing we did. The portions are really really large, especially the seafood pasta. The seafood dish came in parchment paper, straight out of the oven and onto my table. There must have been at least 50+ mussels in the dish. The sauce was so flavorful and they were definitely not stingy on the seafood. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star.....I wish they gave more other seafood aside from mussels. You get 4 scallops, 1 prawn, 1 cray fish, and a bajillon mussels. If you're not a seafood fan, the eggplan parmesian penne is pretty good as well. This comes in a normal portion :)

drove to the Hautes-Alpes (90min from Aix) for my first Tour de France experience outside of Paris…read more- Stage 17 from Gap to Pinerolo, a 179km climb from the Pyrénées up alpine steeps, one of the most grueling legs of this race. sure seemed like the entire town turned up with fans from all over the world, Norwegians very visible, out to support countryman Edvald Hagen who went on to win the stage finish in Italy. another highlight of the day was a meal at this bar à vin where we had loads of local stuff like charcuterie, cheeses, brochettes d'agneau and very yummy basil ice cream.

Disclaimer: this is a review for the absolutely terrible service I received from the owner/manager…read moreof the restaurant. The food was good, not great but good. The ambiance was also good. Last night I ordered the beef and I asked for it to be cooked medium. This was probably my first mistake, I admit, but historically for my taste I have found that medium rare is usually a bit too bloody for me. Regardless, medium does not equal well done. When I received my plate the meat was completely well done, no signs of pink and hard and chewy. Multiple people at my table confirmed this and in not wanting to pay almost 40euro for a beef rock, I sent it back. A few minutes later, the owner came out and scolded me in French that I had no idea what I was talking about and that the chef had cooked it perfectly. She preceded to say other things in which I could not decipher and caused a whole scene for our table and the others around us. I just asked that she bring me a different menu item then...instead of the beef and left it at that. My other plate came out half plated and definitely not as nice as the other plates of the same order but by that point I just ate it. When it came time for our check, they had decided to charge me for both plates despite the fact that no one mentioned this to us. Again, the owner was very defensive and argumentative with us when we asked about our check, causing another very uncomfortable scene. My take home...is that she is a terrible representation of the rest of her restaurant and she seriously needs to take a lesson in customer service. If you come here, order, get what you get and don't complain or it will be a very uncomfortable event for everyone in the building.
