Very limited where you can put your towel down to lay out for a quick tan and remember what I said about rocks? Yea, you'll be laying on it too. Don't worry, there are many others doing the same thing and you get maybe a half inch away from your neighbor. There's a few restaurants, but of course, we're still in Italy, which means they charge a sitting fee. Boo. Capri is such a little town so you can catch a taxi to go into town for more shopping, but the line was so long, I rather lay on rocks than to stand around and hope that my cab gets me back in time before my tour guide leaves me. I booked a tour through my hostel (hostel of the sun) and was able to get on the trip next day! Went to see the blue grotto today and it's nothing like I've ever seen before. Actually, I'm lying. It's exactly what it looks like in the travel magazines you see on the newsstand or airplane magazines! The pictures advertised show that an actually boat is in the cove, but you actually have to swim inside.

There was a nominal entry fee and we were almost out of time, but we ended up going in and it was worth it. It also is a small property so we were able to move through in about 15 minutes. You can of course spend more time there as well, but in our 15 minutes, we were able to take some really nice pictures, walk the whole thing, and enjoy the plant life. The best part about it are the amazing views! You can see the Faraglioni and pretty much the whole south side of the island. There is also a walking path that you can take all the way down to Marina Piccolo from here but it was closed the day we were there.

It's an…read moreeasy walk from Piazza Umberto if you're already in town--or a bit more of a workout if you're making the climb from Marina Grande instead of taking the funicular. Either way, the effort is well worth it for the views. Originally created in the early 1900s by German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp, the gardens are simply landscaped with colorful flowers, shady paths, and a handful of benches to sit and take it all in. Admission is inexpensive, unlike many other activities on the island. The gardens are famous for their stunning panoramic views of the iconic Faraglioni sea stacks, the dramatic sea cliffs, the turquoise waters of Marina Piccola, and the winding Via Krupp carved into the cliffs below. With several viewing platforms throughout the grounds, each stop offers a slightly different perspective--and every view is worth taking in. There's also the popular bar and lounge, Capri Rooftop, next door. It's a bit pricey, but with the heat and those incredible views, I honestly would've been happy to pay for a cold drink and a chance to relax if we hadn't been short on time. I would recommend pairing the two, especially on hot summer days! Simple, scenic, and worth the stop!

Taking a boat tour around the blue waters / grottos of Capri is something you'll definitely want to do if you are visiting. There seemed to be a variety of public tour boats around, but for a little bit of a splurge there are several companies that will take you out on a private boat. Amidst the many private tour companies, Capri Relax is a great option. The half day tour is three hours, and for us that was more than enough time. I believe they also have full day options. The boat was clean and spacious and had more than enough room for two of us. They provide you with fresh towels, snacks and sunscreen. There is also a cooler where you can keep drinks, so I suggest picking up some water + alcoholic bevvies to enjoy. Our tour guide (hey Constantino!) was super friendly and gave us some great information about the area. Plus he was a wonderful photog. We had plans to see the blue grotto (and it was actually open that day which isn't always the case). But when we arrived we were one of the many boats on line. After finding out the wait was 1.5 hours we opted to skip out. It just didn't seem worth it to spend half of our boat time waiting on a line. Plus, we still got to see a ton of other beautiful grottos. Our boat docked at least 4 or 5 times and we were able to jump out and swim around. I believe this tour was around $250 for two of us. Considering what we got -- ((three hours of being toured around on a private luxury boat)) this didn't feel so over the top. Would absolutely book again if I found myself in Capri, and if you are visiting I'd urge you to do the same.

The fee wasn't exorbitant, costing slightly more if you want to go in the blue grotto--which usually has a wait, unless you go during off-peak times. Our guide was courteous, laid-back and knowledgable. He definitely was experienced at getting us close to all the must-see areas around the coast. It gets a bit chilly at times, so bring appropriate clothing just in case.

GORGEOUS & BEAUTIFUL - Totally worth the short hike to the bay…read more We stayed in Praiano so we took a bus to Sorrento and then another bus to Nerano. Was prob. about a two hour trip each way. Once you get off the bus stop in Nerano (stop should be in front of Olga's Residence), look for the signs that point to Baia di Ieranto. Its a slight uphill hike of about 45 minutes or so. There's a sign about mid way through your hike that says for the bay turn right..for something else (sorry i forget), turn left. Turn left. This will take you to the bay and it is less steep. We went in October 2016 and apparently there was a fire which closed the route there. When we asked around locals didn't seem to think it was a big deal. There was some fire damage but if you're careful, the hike is very do-able. It was a bit raining when we went so the bay was basically empty. Loved it!!!!!

The gentlemen that show you how to drive the boat speak English very well. It takes about 15 min or so for them to give you instructions (Btw, we are both inexperienced in this category) after that, you wait for the next boat and you're off on your own! You are also given a map of the island with main points and where you can anchor your boat to swim, eat, or beach. We drove around the big fancy yachts and waved at other people passing by. Make sure you ride through the Faraglioni rocks! There's lots of spots you can hop off for a bite to eat or lay out on a beach all around the island. This was the absolute BEST way to see Capri.

Yes, it is a tourist trap, but it's gorgeous and you will never see anything else like it! The way…read morewe did it only cost us 75 euros each and I felt it was worth it. We took the ferry from Sorrento (40 euro round trip), took a bus from the Capri port up to Anacapri then another bus up to the Grotto Azurra stop. (10 euro round trip for 4 bus rides), and then waited in line for the grotto. The bus rides were a bit treacherous but not long at all, and honestly fun. The views were beautiful. We got there early right as they opened and waited in line for no longer than 30 minutes. They put you in a boat (there was 4 of us) and then you go pay for the entrance fee which is 18 euro per person. Once you go in the skippers start singing and row you around a couple of times. The blue color is electric and gorgeous. You are only in there for a few minutes but we are all so glad we did it. Some people say that the skippers are rude about tipping, but ours was very kind. We gave him 15 euros. Afterwards we walked around Anacapri a bit, then took the bus back down to Capri where we had a drink and then boarded our ferry back to Sorrento. It was a fun adventure that was a lot easier than I thought it would be, and I'd recommend it!

We visited Grotto Azurra as a part of the Motocafisti Capri boat tour. The caves have a separate…read moreentrance fee that you need to pay in cash on site at €18 per person. You also need to tip your boat guy on top of that. Since we were on a tour, we transferred from a tour boat onto one of their row boats, in the middle of the water. 2-3 people fit in a boat (not including the rower), so hubby and I were stuck with a rando. We got there at around 11 am, and there were a lot of boats but we only waited about 10 minutes or so to get into the cave. I've read this can be hours during peak season but thankfully, we went in April. There's also a line on land for people who I'm assuming found their way to the grotto themselves, but it seemed like they were prioritizing the people coming from the tours. Once inside, you're with a bunch of other row boats so it's definitely not as magical as what you see on the gram. But the water is still amazing. It's like a neon blue from the way the sun reflects on it. We rowed around for not even 10 minutes before heading back out. The opening for the cave is super small, so you have to lay down in the boat to get in, and the rower basically leans back on top of you. It's worth the experience for the amount of time we waited (though pricey). But if I had to wait anything more than 30 minutes, I don't think it would have been.
