Great food in a very nice setting. They tried very hard to please. The pasta dishes were wonderful.

FILTHY restaurant with chairs that are falling apart and unsafe not to mention the HORRENDOUS attitude of the self appointed shaggy unkempt "owner" His demeanour was ATROCIOUS... and his level for distain for service...... is definitely projected upon his guests..... I would NEVER step foot in this DUMPSTER FIRE if a "restaurant" .... also ... food ALL OVER the dining room floor... i am considering calling the food inspectors due to the absolute minimum...you can't tell me there is no mice..... .. i'm so glad we can say - without a doubt - we will never be back.... actually and truly deserves NEGATIVE 5 * ..... i mean if your going to act like a total pig.... at least put it directly on the menu.... read more

Wow! Had the Cozze Affogate and shared it with friends...soooo yummy and the Spaghetti Aglio E Olio for main course, unbelievable!!

I'm sorry, I just can't with this place. It wasn't good. To the point that I didn't eat my meal. I don't like giving one star reviews, but here we are. I was went in and my first impression on decor was, "ok. It's not had a remodel since it opened, but whatever." But, I should have hesitated because I noticed a smell. I don't know what that smell was but it wasn't pleasing. At this point, I should have turned around. I didn't. I should also mention, they were cranking the Italian opera a tad too loud. It did't make for ambient dining. When I sat there, it was actually agitating. I got seated and ordered the carbonara, thinking, "Cool. Classic Italian pasta." The bread came out. It was fresh and warm. I think this is ok until the carbonara came. The first thing was the sauce was soupy. That's a bad sign. I took a bite and the taste was off. Looked closer and the entire dish was scrambled egg. At this point, I'm out. The waiter came by and I apologized and told him I can't eat this. He asked why. I was honest. I told him the taste was off, the sauce was soupy and the dish was scrambled egg. And get this, his first reply back was, "well, carbonara has egg in it." Well, duh. However, carbonara is considered ruined when it turns to scrambled egg, so......I don't know, you consider serving the dish as prepared acceptable? (Which is not how I worded it, but that was the gist) Anyhow, I was not charged for the meal, which kudos to them, but still not deserving of another star because it wasn't pleasurable. They did offer me something else but at that point, I had a hunch it wasn't going to be better. Sorry, but this place isn't good. read more

Very disappointing meal. Veal parmigiana was very basic. Linguini Pescatore was mostly mussels with a couple of shrimp. big let down. Also first time out For dinner we're rolls were brought to the table (which again was just okay) and then noticed when the bill arrived there was a charge for them.staff not engaged. After we done we finally had to get up and ask for the bill as the two people were just sitting talking and not paying any attention to the customers. I must say that I've had Linguini Pescatore in many Italian restaurants and this is by far one of the best dishes I've had. The display was absolutely wonderfull and the abundance of clams, muscles and shrimps with the pasta was mouth watering and filling. This is one of my favourite restaurants in the city! It is an Italian restaurant. Small, located next to Boston Pizza in Avenida, across from South Centre. It has a very cozy feel as you walk in the door. On certain nights there is a live musician in the corner playing quietly and enjoyably. The staff is always warm and welcoming. The food is always amazing and consistent and I'm fairly certain made from scratch to order. My favourite is the carbonara pasta. I don't think you can get a bad meal here. Sometimes it feels a little slow to get your meal, but I think that is because the quality is so high. It is similar in pricing to chain restaurants and you get a fine dining experience. Perfect for date night! We come back time and time again! I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

I am writing this mostly to remind my neighbourhood that La Piccola Napoli exists, and because our community Facebook site regularly has new visitors who have just moved here, I want them to know, too. When I moved here, a friend told me to visit this little Italian place and I told her I "never go out for Italian". But then one night we were feeling like not venturing far from home and we realized we could walk to this place, and then suddenly we were eating there one a week so we could try everything on the menu. Last week I came for lunch, and the place was empty, but the spaghetti aglio e olio was still terrific, and so was the veal marsala (I didn't even think I liked veal until going to LPN.) Prices are reflective of the fact that they have been here for over 30 years, and their food is freshly prepared, and they are not paying downtown rent. In short, it's a far less expensive and far more intimate dining experience than Earl's or similar mid-range place. Recommended if you wish to talk to your dining companions, and not if you want to stare at big screen TVs while eating, and not if you are looking for fast food or Olive Garden portions. I'm not sure if I'd send Celiacs here, but in response to my query the waiter assured me that they can accommodate gluten-free diets, so I guess that would be your call to make. All in all, please remember our local family-owned restaurants or they might soon end up where local family-owned bookstores did. The proprietor told me that they will close the restaurant with a booking of 50 people for dinner, so that is a handy fact if you are planning an event. Oh, one more thing. I do not recommend bringing babies or children who cannot reliably behave in a nice restaurant. They will not turn you away, but I also don't think it is the proper environment. read more

Excellent Italian restaurant, which kept us well fed at a large business dinner. The veal was tender, the antipasti and shrimp flavorful, and the tiramisu to die for. Plus, very good local beer. If I make it back this way again, I'll definitely visit. read more

We were taken there by friends and could not complain at the time, but had we been there alone I would have sent my meal back. The menu is old-fashioned Italian. Nothing wrong with that as such, but not everyone wants pasta. The staff were welcoming and friendly, as we would expect since our friends are regulars there. The food came in a timely manner - the waiter offered pepper for my appetizer, which I refused but he put on anyway! My main course caprese salad was the real disappointment. Underripe tomatoes, (no excuse for that in late August, rubbery mozzarella instead of creamy, fresh buffalo style; no balsamic and no seasoning! I looked for salt on the table but alas, none to be found. It really wasn't worth the drive so far south. I wouldn't bother to go there again. read more

Although I read some bad reviews, I also read some good one so we thought we would give it a try. I ordered the Veal Francesco with pasta. The veal was to be cooked in an apricot brandy but all I could taste was almond extract and icing sugar. So sweet that I could not eat it. I had 3 bites of my veal and left the rest. My pasta was mushy soft and not anywhere near el dente, but I did manage to eat it. I did tell the waiter/owner it was sweet when he asked me as he did come by to pick up our plates, but he just brushed me off. My husband mentioned the pasta was over cooked, but he said his customers liked it that way otherwise it's too tough. Lol. Now I know why there were only 4 tables of customers during dinner time in Calgary in this quite large restaurant. On a good note, they had good bottled wine! We were at the Italian restaurant for our first time on August 21, 2018. The owner (Pasquale) was so accommodating and made us feel at home the moment we stepped through the door. Very nice ambience. Busy but staff were super efficient and made it look easy. Calamari was missed on the menu but we branched out. Everything was served hot and they coordinated things so no one was sitting without anything to eat. Everything was tasty and the family all enjoyed their choices. Will return! read more

Wow, excellent Italian joint! I wondered by here last week but appeared to be underdressed so I decided to try again later. I stopped by tonight after work and was the only customer in the joint for most of the meal...so service was great. Two things caught my eye so I asked for the proprietor's suggestion. To my surprise he suggested the cheaper of the two. The medaglioni was excellent! The house red was decent and the Caesar salad was delicious. Unfortunately the salad was way overpriced at $9. We heard this restaurant had good food but horrible service and this is so true. The waitress brushed one friend off with a request for a recommendation on wine and laughed at another friend and rudely commented at her for not knowing how to pronounce Gnocchi. Then argued with us about how we wanted pay the bill. Then rudely stood over us as we discussed the tip. read more

Enjoying this place when we come to Calgary is a tradition. Lovely little place. The gentleman that greets you and probably owns the place is sweet as can be. Clean restaurant. Prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. I had the lasagne last time there. YuM. read more

Pasquale and his wife Nancy have an excellent restaurant where every detail is handled. Our food was excellent - chicken and halibut (special). The service was exceptional, and pricing for what we received was extremely fair! Definitively our go-to in Calgary for Italian! read more

Friday night after work I was invited by my future Godson mother out for dinner. I was very tired and after a 10 hour day I did not have the any energy, but I accepted . Such mistake.. We went to La Piccola Napoli Ristorante THE BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER!! Michelle found hair in her food, the rest of the orders tasted awful, the service was crappy and the owner attitude was the worst ever!!! She did not apologize for the hair in Michelle's plate, she just took the plate and run to the kitchen. She returned minutes later only to ask if she needed something else, but she did not even listed to the order. As we had a 6 weeks old baby with us, and the previous order took a million years to get to the table, Michelle asked "just a bruschetta please, the baby is getting tired and we cannot wait too long " . Well, guess what? The "owner" brought two pieces of bruschetta in a styrofoam doggy bag and just threw it on our table. We all looked at each other like IDIOTS, not comprehending for a few sec . what the heck is going on!!!! Michelle did not ask for the food to go!.. I had to call for the "owner" - this woman called herself "one of the owners"-and asked her what is going on, and she said" well, you said that you do not not have time and you just want a bruschetta"...."so , I ASSUMED THAT THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT" . Then she turned her back to us and left. Again!!!! Ha! Since when "Assuming" is any decent restaurant owner or employee job? "Listening to your clients is !" You run off with the lemon chicken with hair in it, did not even apologize and never listed to the second order. Who said they wanted the food to go? And where is all the cutlery from the table? You cleaned the table and the only thing left is to kick your clients out, I asked her . Do you think she cared? Not in a million years!!!!!! She went to the cashier and brought the bill and told us" I DID NOT CHARGED YOU FOR THE CHICKEN" . The guts !!!! Pay for what? Hair? Not touched food? Bad attitude? She should thank me that I paid for the rest of the crappy food!! The biggest regret I have is that I we left quietly, tired , hungry and disappointed, we were fed up with her rudeness and stupidity, but we should have made a big scandal about it. This is what she deserved, with her cowardly attitude! I said it before and I will say it again. I had it with the bad food in Canadian restaurants. I will not go to a restaurant that was not recommended by at least 3 people ever again! SHAME ON YOU LA PICCOLA, SHAME ON YOU!!!! ( FUNNY ENOUGH , THE NAME OF THE RESTAURANT REPRESENTS YOU .
