Came here for the tacos and was pleased to discover the best local Mexican tacos on the space coast! True flavor! Very fresh salsa and tortillas. The chicken was moist and seasoned with a kick of spice. The onion and cilantro garnish really hit home. I can't get across just how fresh and satisfying these tacos are! Especially to find them in a hole in a wall! Super chill environment at the back of the store. Friendly people and the food was served quickly. For the past three months, I've been coming here regularly for the carne asada tacos -- they were hands-down the best in Brevard County. Unfortunately, my visit last night was a huge disappointment. The meat was mostly fat and had a strange texture, almost like it had already been chewed. The tortillas were stiff and dry, breaking apart before you could even take a bite, and the salsa was watery. Stopped by for lunch with a friend. I had heard that they serve very good carnitas here. Of course being excited to try it we drove right over. La Placita to me was a little church located in downtown Los Angeles. Also known as Our Lady Queen of Angeles, I was baptised here and saw many family events take place in and around that little church. La Placita here in Cocos is a latin food market. You can buy everything from cookware to clothing. In the back they have a small restaurant where the food is prepared. The staff here is very friendly and speaking spanish is helpful but today unfortunately no carnitas. I ordered another marinated pork taco and of course some steak tacos too. Also a sampling of their deep fried pork was a must. The tacos were very good but the deep fried pork was obviously left in the deep fry way too long. Its supposed to be overcooked but a bit more care and it would have been perfect. I washed it all down with horchata which was a bit on the over sweetened side but still very tasty. All in all I like this store - restaurant very much and I will definately be back next Im in the area. read more

I went to this place because it was the only place I could find that serves menudo on Sat and Sun. This place is pretty legit. They make their own corn tortillas, which reminds me of Mexico and how they make their tortillas. As for the menudo it was good just a little different from how my family makes it. It's almost the same the only thing it didn't have was hominy. Other then that it did have pigs feet and plenty of tripe. I enjoyed it and plan to come back to try their other food items. read more

So, Honest review, I did not feel safe walking into this place since its a little run down corner store in a very scary run downned plaza. However the taqueria staff was very nice, and the tacos were delicious! The only reason im giving it 4 stars is because the checkout clerk was rude from the minute I arrived. No hi, how can I help you in english nor in Spanish and when i went to pay for the food, all she did was not here over there, honestly if it wasnt because of that they would have gotten 3 reviews. Most likely will come back, since the tacos had really good flavor. I didnt really like the carnitas one I thought it didnt have so much to taste. But the carne asada and the chicken tacos were good! The feel of this place was like walking into a mexican tiendita (corner store). Everything you need in a small cramped space. The food area was towards the back of the building. It had about 10 tables to enjoy your food on. We ordered tacos and 1 agua de melon. Tacos were good but the agua was not made from natural fruits, it was a melon flavored drink, so I was disappointed. We heard this place was really good. When we walked in we instantly got a negative vibe from the people working there. The people working there do not speak English, which is not a problem. I've been to restaurants before that don't speak English and have been able to get through it.....usually pretty easily. But the looks we were getting in this place were borderline hostile with no effort to help us order. We ordered the carne asada steak and it was terrible. The steak was very tough and fatty. It was also extremely greasy with very little spice except a huge load of salt. The tortillas were great and the rice was good. My biggest problem is that this place is filthy. It is a store with the taqueria in the back. The taqueria is nasty. Food all over the tables, sticky tables, food in the seats, dirty napkins in the seats. The lady taking orders spilled part of a tea on the counter and just left it. Then she put our plates in the spilled tea so our plates were sticky. The dirty plates were piled on top of a trash can in the dining area....food all over them. Nasty rag left there for you to clean your own table I guess. Delicious, authentic and CHEAP food in the back of this Mexican grocery store. I had three delicious asada tacos ($1.75 each). The meat was very tasty (albeit a bit greasy) and they were served simply on double corn tortillas (made there, I'm pretty sure) with cilantro & onions. I added some of their house green hot sauce and a squeeze of lime. Sooooo good! You place your order, they give you a ticket, and you actually pay for it up front at the grocery store register. One of my favorite whole in the wall spots in Cocoa. The grocery in the front has a fantastic selection of Mexican cooking supplies as well as hard to find ingredients such as queso duro seco or hard cheese. (Great on tacos btw) The taqueria is fantastic, and make sure to ask for the red salsa. When ordering, it helps if you speak a little spanish, but they should be able to help you out no problem. As a Mexican American that is new to Brevard County from the West Coast of the country, I'm in constant search of delicious and authentic Mexican food that I don't have to cook myself or wait for a visit to/from my family to get that deep desire met. The tacos were very good but I wasn't a fan of the service and the Torta my husband got didn't come with the authentic bread and no avocado or jalapeño(never had a torta without these). The carnitas were delicious! Some of the best I have seen since living in San Diego. The location is in an area known for crime but I didn't experience any problems during my visit with my wife. I ordered two tacos and a burrito and I'm two tacos in and I'm full. That's what's up. The barbacoa is juicy and meaty, you can sense the lard in the tortillas. Fuck yeah. They don't even speak English here or maybe they do and they're just fucking with me, it doesn't matter because they got my order right. In terms of customer service that's all I care about. Now I'm in the middle of the burrito. This is the only burrito I've had in brevard county that actually uses Spanish rice and pinto beans. Most of these other places use white rice and black beans. I mean seriously are your taste buds dead? Mine either that's why I'm insulted by the "Mexican" "food" they offer I'm cocoa beach and Merritt island. This place has spiked my curiosity for quite a while. Now that I've finally tried it, my only disappointment is that I put it off for so long. Like, WOW. The tacos are amazing. The tortillas are made from scratch. The service is fast. I have no complaints. This place costs about the same as Taco Bell, but the food is actually real. No mystery meat or plastic cheese to be found. My sister and I tried the tacos de asada and the tacos de carnitas. Both were excellent. Sure, there's always something not perfect; ever go anywhere else and find that? Always busy around lunch time and taco Tuesday was busy as well. Special combo #1 is my fav (2 tacos, rice, and beans). Carne asada is nice but carnitas are better (IMHO). Caldo de res and the pork in chili verde: excellent. Homemade tortillas are excellent and if you want spice in your life the salsa rojo is a must. Salsa verde is tasty and not quite as spicy. Best beer value is the Corona Familiar quart size (purchase as they make your meal and pay up front). Don't confuse this place with Don Gringos Mexican Restaurant: no fancy margaritas; no fancy decor; no mariachi bands; just plain and simple home cooking! Tacos about $1.95 ($1.59 taco Tuesday). Tortillas, $1.75/pound (you can buy fewer). Caldo de res, $9.95 and the pork ribs in chili verde, rice, and beans about the same price. Beer was maybe $3.50 for a quart. Spoiler: the abuelita that made tamales for them no longer makes them; no replacement planned. I know they would have been killer! read more
