Never again. Trying to place a to go order, they couldn't have acted more disregarding and disrespectful. When asking questions about the menu items of the day, she laughs as listing them, then when we say "oh sounds pretty good, let me try that" shakes her head and says no. Then I go to ask for burrito options and she's just repeating quesadilla back to back to me in a very contradicting manner. Are you messing with me? I give up and just say okay. I was pleasantly surprised at the feel of this place - so similar to all of the wonderful little neighborhood taquerias I knew and loved during my time in central and south Texas. I ordered a taco and two sopes and asked if I could get some beans and rice on the plate to complete the meal. When they brought the food out, it was all pretty good, but my bill came to more than $25 because they apparently charged me five dollars each for maybe a half cup each of rice and beans, and when I asked about it, I got the shrugged shoulders and the " no speak English" story, as if the waitress had no idea what I was saying (and yes, I know how to say "arroz' and "frijoles"). I finally just paid the bill and left because I was getting frustrated and wasn't getting anywhere trying to find out about the bill. I'll probably go back because the food was legit, but the "communication problem" left a bad taste in my mouth and my wallet, so I'll have to make sure of what I'm asking for and what it will cost the next time. This is my favorite Mexican/ Honduran food spot on the Northshore, hands down. It's a small family owned Latino grocery and restaurant, cranking out homely staples like tortas, tacos, breakfast burritos, menudo, and various caldos. Need some Latino groceries like tortillas, cotija cheese, spices, and takis? Yep, they got that too. The entire staff is incredibly kind; we've never ever had bad service nor a bad meal here. They treat you like guests in their home. For example, their tortillas are handmade and taste amazing, like something you would expect out of grandma's kitchen. I love them, but I'm trying to cut down on carbs. The sweet tortilla-making lady will come out of the kitchen and ask how you like your food and the tortillas. When she sees you've polished off your tortillas, she'll beam and ask if you want more. The correct answer is always "yes, ma'am". Just go with that. Bf always get menudo on Sunday, and it comes out in a large clay bowl and tastes like just like home. Since I'm cutting down carbs, I get a bowl of caldo de res, which is a brothy soup with beef and hearty veggies. I've also had the ham and cheese quesadillas, tacos, and tortas on various visits - all were excellent. I order a side of rice and beans for my picky toddler and he polishes off the whole plate. During the holidays, they make both Mexican and Honduran tamales. They are the best tamales I've had on the Northshore, and I fell into a food coma after eating three of them on Christmas day. My one regret is I don't come here often enough. However, when I make it out there, it's always a treat. read more

Having lunch here and having a torta de Carne Asada. That's a grilled skirt steak sandwich on a Bolillo bread, refried beans. Onions. Lettuce, tomatoes, avocados, jalapeños and a slap of mayonnaise. Instead of the mayo I prefer Mexican sour cream. Made on the spot. Not precooked. This place is my favorite spot to eat authentic Mexican food. Check out their daily special. read more

I work in the industry myself, so it's hard for me to get to restaurants before they close most of the time, I am from Texas and miss the street tacos and just the authentic street food that is everywhere in Texas, I have tried various places in the area and always seem to be disappointed but not at La placita, first of all I walked in 10min before they closed which I hate doing but I wanted a dang taco! The owner was so cool about it, he walked me through the menu we talked about me missing my Texas tacos, and then I met the women in the back that make the food and the tortillas, again I apologized for ordering so late, they were very nice and the food was AMAZING, best place and first spot that reminded me of being back home in San Antonio/Austin area. I have the cooks in the back an extra tip(because I know how it is!) and the Owner actually recommended some other places for me to try in the area that he said were really good, which is rare and was really cool of him.
