I ordered my favorite lunch special, the beef flautas and double beans. The salsa and chips are very good, just as I remembered. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They are really good about cleaning off the completed dirty dishes from the table. My flautas were crispy and hot and not too greasy, delicious. The brisket was delicious. I had not dined here but my sponsor has. This restaurant is not new but it has been maintained and provides an entertaining environment. Rarely are restaurants located in vintage residential structures. That is one of the attractions that makes this feel authentic. We dined here with friends on a Saturday evening, there is accessible and adequate parking. We were greeted and taken to a very comfortable dining table. Service was very slow it took more than a 1 hour to get our food and at this time I'm still waiting for it. Got here at 11:30am and they haven't bring our food out and is 1pm, we saw multiple customers leave because of how slow everything is coming from out. Seems like the food was warmed over in the microwave as the taste and temperature were less than stellar. Guess that's what I get for eating a late lunch mid-afternoon (around 3 p.m.). Food was ok. My mom rants and raves about the food so I went with her to see what the hype was about well it wasn't all that. The fajita beef was dry but the chicken was pretty good. For a $17.99 fajita medley plate it could of been better and very skimpy on the portion and veggies. As for the service it's ok no long waits or terrible service it was very smooth. Food was good, waitress was good, 3 stars for that. I took off 2 stars because, on my husbands way out, his hand was bitten by a dog on the patio, next to the exit. He was not trying to pet the dog, he paused to look at it for a split second then it bit him. My problem with the restaurant came when I called on our way home to just let them know that the dog did bite him and that they should move the people to another part of the patio. They blamed him by saying he stopped and petted the dog, which he did not. His arms are abnormally long as he is 6*6 and we could have called the police/animal control as dog bites are serious but all we wanted to do was let the restaurant know. They tried to say they had witnesses, including the manager, that he stopped to pet the dog, which sounds a lot like trying to cover their bases. Even if he did stop to pet it, which neither of us would never do as we don't know the animal, that doesn't stop it being their liability and responsibility. If they did see that, they would have also seen the dog bite him and should have come outside to make sure he was okay. They did not so I am guessing the "witnesses" were just the dogs owners to cover their own butts. We will not be back here, which is disappointing since the food was good. read more

We've frequented the LPM near Camp Bowie for 12 years now. I figured this one may be slightly different. I was right. LPM on CB is for the white folks. This LPM is authentic. Not saying the one on CB isn't good. The salsa at this one is spicy. The one on CB isn't. I'll stop comparing them, but yeah. I got the camarones la playa both visits. Mainly because it comes with the fish soup and I wanted to try it. Why not just get a side cup of it, Krista? Why not just order the fish soup as a meal, Krista? I don't know. Good question. The fish soup is fantastic. I don't know why it took me so long to ever try it. The shrimp is...shrimp with spices. The beans and rice also get a thumbs up. Went to La Playa Maya on Hemphill and dined on the patio. Great being able to eat outside and enjoy the weather and the food. Chips tasted store-bought and needed salt. Salsa was probably homemade, but there was nothing remarkable about it - no special taste and it was about as mild as it could be. Queso was your typical yellow cheese with salsa in in - again, pretty bland. I ordered the burrito, with chicken and queso sauce. It came STUFFED with chicken, rice, pico and lettuce and well covered with the cheese sauce. I asked them to omit the beans which are normally inside as well. About $10 if I recall, and a pretty good bargain as it will be two full meals for me. Ambiance inside (as noted on the way to the restroom) was again pretty boring - a few Mexican kitchzy things and that was about it for decor. Will go back again sometime, try something else and if it's not wow-worthy, I think I shall cross if off my list for good. read more

The fish is fried in this crunchy, corn-meal like batter, stuffed in flour tortillas with a mango salsa, chipotle cream, lettuce and tomato on top. It's served with mango rice and more lettuce and tomato on the side. The tacos are overstuffed, and the crispy fish with the sweet, fresh mango salsa and creamy chipotle made every bite SOOO PERFECT!! You get stuffed on the platter too. They give everyone their own salsa dishes, their queso fundido was good as an appetizer and their horchata was good too served in a very tall silver cup. Whenever someone asks me for a Mexican restaurant recommendation, I send them to this place if they want the best enchiladas. My husband and I eat out a lot and have pretty much tried everything in the DFW area. I have a different place I go to for Fajitas......but you won't find better enchiladas anywhere else. My favorite is the enchiladas verdes, even the beans and rice that come with the meal are on a whole other level. The Ceviche here is also really good. You get your food super fast so you might give a little time between ordering your appetizer and main entree. I won't lie, I've had a couple of dishes here that were just ok. One thing I can always count on though is not being disappointed with the enchiladas......have I stressed that enough? This and their amazing service keeps me coming back. read more

It comes with 3 different hot sauces on the side to help. Then tried fish tacos and they are a little above normal. Didn't like the smell of fish when delivered.
