The hotel with the best interior decor and largest rooms during our two week Collette tour of…read more"Mountain lakes and Alpine vistas" in late July 2019. This is a favorite hotel for use by touring companies because of it's location right on Lago Maggiore, second largest lake in Italy, bordering on Switzerland, and size with several hundred rooms. 9' x 17' or 153 square feet unit with decorative wall paper, and wood paneled furniture, spacious bathroom with double sink, bath tub, granite countertops, free wifi, and most importantly of all, fully AC, a necessity in 90 degree heat throughout our stay. Outdoor balcony, with spectacular unobstructed views of sunrise on Lago Maggiore, surrounded by mountains rising out of the deep blue waters. 10 minute walk from our room to the indoor pool, outdoor hot tub, and an Olympic size outdoor pool, complete with lap lines, shared with another hotel. Vast grass areas with plentiful lounge chairs for sunbathing. Lighted walkway around the hotel right on the shores of Lago Maggiore, not to be walked on at night, unless you want a leg full of mosquito bites! Almost next door to the ferry building for visiting Isola Bella, Isola Madre, and Isola Pescateri, islands in the Lake. Pharmacy across the street, 6 minute walk to Supermercato Carrefeur and 10 minute uphill walk to supermarket Savoini. TripAdvisor lists 23 restaurants within 0.3 miles. 4 minute walk to Banco BPM with ATM to get euros, using my Chase Bank ATM card. Washer/Dryer self service coin store right on the quarter mile long Baveno promenade, where I did my running each morning. Originally we were to spend two days in Milan, before taking a flight back home. However temperatures were near 100 degrees in Milan, requiring a change of plans, unless we wanted to be fried on our walking tours. Prior to our last day of our tour, I made a reservation through TripAdvisor with www.ebookers.ch for two additional nights stay at this hotel. Since the web site was in German, didn't know that my room was for a mountain view room. Hotel upgraded me without charge to an ocean view room, so that we could stay in the same room. There are two yelp Grand Hotel Dinos, one a $$$$, and another a $$$. Since we didn't have the top floor penthouse, put it in the $$$ category. Hotel provided ride in chauffeured full size 2019 Mercedes Benz sedan to airport in Milan, 22 miles away, for 120 euros cash ($144), or 132 euros credit card. Price to pay for staying beyond the tour dates, which would have provided free transportation by motor coach to the airport!

We had great big smiles on our faces during the entire time. The parties at the hotel were the type that made you not want to leave no matter how tired you were because you never wanted to miss any of the exciting festivities. It thought the hotel looked like a location out of a 007 James Bond film.

I got the junior suite Lakeview room, which is located on the first floor (Room 105) and it was just perfect! Breakfast came with the room every morning and food was great! The hotel itself had very intricate and lovely decor. It was extremely hard to not want to take photos of every little detail. Even the elevator was very well decorated, and we took multiple selfies in the elevator alone. My bed was extremely comfortable.

It looked best to go to Maggiore first cause it is not far from Malpensa airport. And the biggest attraction on Maggiore seemed to be the Borromean Islands, so we planned to stay close. This led us to the Hotel Villa and Palazzo Aminta. What a fortuitous chain of events!! This property is in the most beautiful location. Great views of the Lake and the Islands! Terrific, luxurious guest rooms. And the most genuinely friendly and accommodating staff I have ever experienced. I bet I have stayed in nearly a thousand hotels in my life and I cannot think of a better one. If you get anywhere even close to northern Italy, you must stay here.

The first floor space was large (2 closets with plenty of hangers) and overlooked the large, lush gardens that are so beautifully maintained in this 150 yr. old former family residence. Though face towels are mere linens, the shower water pressure and temperature controls worked well. Room thermostat control was great too. Our tiny twin bed mattresses were a little lumpy, but otherwise OK. Morning breakfast options were wide, varied, and beautifully presented. Do try the fresh squeezed OJ! Recommended spot to stay!

On our very first day, while checking in, our bag was stolen from the hotel lobby. Unfortunately,…read morethe front desk was not helpful in addressing the situation. We were told there were no cameras in the lobby, and they would not review video footage from the exits to see whether our bag could be seen leaving the hotel. Instead, the only assistance offered was a toothbrush and toothpaste. After such a serious incident and the lack of support we received, we cannot recommend this hotel. The room situation is substandard. Broken toilet seat, rehung used feminine hygiene bags, and the AC unit rattles so loudly making it hard to sleep. Btw- this trip to Italy was booked through Trafalgar. Personally I would not have booked these rooms.
