It was explained that there was a reservation for those chairs in 90 minutes. We agreed we could dine in less time. We started with the house white wine. It was pleasant. We asked for the cod croquettes. They were tender and flavourful. Our 2nd choice was the sausage cooked in cider. It had big flavour! Our bread soaked up the sauce. The 3rd was the blood sausage. It was my absolute favorite. I've been all over the world and have had lots of "blood pudding". This is by far the best. We finished with a cheese plate with 3 kinds. A flavourful plate. Not for wimps. It was accompanied by walnuts and candy. I spread some softer cheese on the rest of my bread. We had a very enjoyable experience. The staff was wonderful. 42 euro for 4 shared tapas, bread plate and 2 glasses of wine each. Nice vibe. Relaxing. Lots of decore to look at.

But this was Haute Vegetarian Cuisine suitable for Michelin stars. * * * The menus change frequently - and there is not a lot of choice on the menu. You get what the cook is cooking today and that's the beginning and the end of it. But the beginning and the end of it here - is the Alpha and Omega of great cooking. * * * So what did we have? 1) A cauliflower and carrot soup that will make you adore cauliflower. The cauliflower served to me as a child was unspeakably awful. It may not have counted as child abuse. It certainly counted as cauliflower abuse. At Les Maduixes, they serve the Cauliflower of Cauliflower dreams. Eat one bowl of Cauliflower Soup out of the Golden Cauliflower bowl And be guaranteed happiness and golden treasure forever. 2) A pique-boca of homemade hummus served in an endive leaf with two colors of sesame seed and an alt pesto. My mouth was piqued, oh yes, oh yes. I have no idea where they get their endive ... But that was the Cary Grant of endive. 3) Vegetable croquettes minimally sauced. Vegetable croquettes are usually heavy vegetable lumps in the hands of the wrong vegan cook. These were clouds of fluffy wonderfulness. 4) A veggie lasagna with soy yogurt as the "cheese" part of the filling. Yogurt totally totally belongs on lasagna. It makes it a light refreshing and lively dish. Why eat Grandma's lasagna bomb, and then be capable of doing nothing after lunch except watching football ... When you can have a sprightly lasagna with yogurt, And do handstands between the main course and dessert? 5) A quiche with soy mascarone. Mascarone makes everything wonderful - never mind the source of the milk. 6) A zero sweet chocolate pie. Time to renew your relationship with unsweetened baking chocolate. This was Heathcliff, the brooding lord of the haunted manor next door, sweeping you away to the moors in the rain for the lovemaking that only a dark poet can provide. There was a long time between every forkful. My eyes never opened. 7) A "carrot cake" that was made of carrot, just like the server said, but for all intents and purposes was a lemon creme cake. You have never had a lighter carrot cake in your life. 8) A vegan strawberry sorbet - but lots of people make vegan strawberry sorbets. Les Maduixes is a very cozy restaurant, with a nice ambiance. I thought the service was excellent. Regarding the food, for starters I had the Crema de boniato, zanahoria, which was quite nice. For the main I had wholemeal noodles with tomatoes, eggplant and goat cheese, and for desert the carrot cake. The noodle dish was good, but I guess I was expecting something I would classify as 'really good'. As my wife is a fan of vegetarian food, and because it is so close to our flat, I am sure we will give Les Maduixes another go in the near future. I hope to be more impressed on the next visit.

They have amazing paella, and even cater to the tourists and those that prefer a paella de marisco (which I recently learned was not the traditional paella). And that you should eat it around 3PM or so, and not for dinner. We did try both the seafood one and the Valencia paella. I gotta say, the Valencia one was very good as well for not having shellfish. I would really like to try them side by side, but that's a ton of food. We actually went back to Azahar twice which we don't normally do on vacation. The staff was great, and helpful. They were attentive and seemingly always around, but not in an annoying way. They have a lobster tank that had a couple of pretty good sized guys in there, both spiny and cold-water. Their tables each have a bottle of wine on them which they don't take away when you order a bottle. Not a bad thing, but paella pans are big, and the real estate on the tables may not be conducive to having two bottles of wine on the table. Things could get messy you know? I don't remember anything else spectacular about the interior. The views of the water and people watching are great though. If you find yourself in Valencia, hungry for some paella, I think this is the place to go.

What made us pick this place was it seemed more quiet and relaxed, with no obnoxious tourists inside. We were literally the only non-locals and it was fun to watch the nearby families interact, while we enjoyed the ocean breeze and views. Plates are huge and this is hands down the best seafood paella I had in all of Spain. So this is what it's supposed to taste like! A must for your Valencia to do list. Moderately priced.
