Had a blast with my friends here. We danced the night away. The bar area is very nice, though the service was on the slower side for the most part. Although one of the bartendars, wish I could remember his name, was on it and not bad to look at. He was fast and funny..making jokes while keeping up with the crowd. The dance area is a bit small but great music playing all night. It was a pretty fun experience overall, and the crowd it attracts were fun to chat and dance with. I enjoyed the area with the nice couch as well as stepping out on the patio for fresh air. I ubered here since the parking is always rough in this area. read more

I this place was alright I've been a few times to meet friends and have always had a good time with them. The people I was with made it a good night. While the bar had a fun vibe and was decently full for a 5pm on a Thursday, the guy bartender was totally out of it and pouring HORRIBLE drinks. Not sure if it as drugs or just didn't give a shit. Driving home after some business in the downtown area I hit some construction on Broadway that had detours that led me to Alamo Street and area I had never noticed before. I saw a couple of beer joints and then I noticed La Roca Cantina so I decided to wait out traffic and stop in for happy hour. The place wasn't packed and so I got a spot at the bar. The inside has a U-shaped long bar you can post up at or several tables and sofas you can sit at in a separate room across the bar. It has more of a cocktail bar vibe than a beer joint and that is what I was looking for. The bartender, Roel, asked what I would like so I started off with my go to, a Bulleit Rye Old fashion. I watched Roel make it and he made it just the way I like it, test one passed. As a follow-up, I asked if he could make a Sazerac, and he said yes, then asked what type of Rye I would prefer. I like when I'm given the option so after looking at their selection I went with a Rittenhouse Rye. When it was served, it looked the part then after a sip, it tasted the part; test two passed. Roel came over to ask if I liked the drinks and I gave him a thumbs up. He chatted with us for a while and made sure we were taken care of so he gets a thumbs up as well. The bartender Toni was amazing and went above and beyond when I requested drinks with egg whites. She made such good drinks that weren't on the menu and that was appreciated.I give Antonia 5 stars but the establishment and the experience at the end gets an overall 2. I came here on a Thursday night with a few friends and enjoyed some drinks. Its a 360 bar which is nice because there are lots of seats around the bar. Beyond that they have some couches around that you are able to sit at if you'd like. When I'm at a cocktail bar I like to watch the drinks made so I prefer to sit at the bar when there's availability. I love cocktails with egg whites in them so I requested that from the bartender and she made me a few after asking the types of flavors I like. The music was cool and the vibe was low key except for some loud patrons across the bar. Towards the end of the night it was getting close to closing and a short man who came out of nowhere. We hadn't seen him once all night.He told us that we had 3 minutes to drink your drinks. Then he repeatedly told us every 30 seconds how much time we had left.This was extremely obnoxious and ridiculous to say the very least. He was only doing this to myself and my group of friends, there were a total of three of us. The bar was still full of about 10 other people not including the staff.So this was uncalled for to say the very least. I understand last call but there are ways to do that and you should treat everybody with respect. We were paying customers who had spent a decent amount of money and tip very well. I don't appreciate being treated this way. When we were leaving and the bar was STILL full of people this guy changed his tune and was trying to shake our hands and thank us for coming. My review would have been more starts if it wasn't for this guy. I'm not sure what this mans role was in the bar but he should learn how to treat people with respect and not be rude. The next time I'm in San Antonio I will not be coming back here. read more

Fantastic Happy Hour at La Roca Cantina! Sibling location of The Green Latern cocktail bar in Stone Oak, LRC served nicely made cocktails and in-house infused shots. Strawberry serrano tequila and pineapple-coconut rum were tried on this visit (complimentary shot! from the awesome bartender for my first visit) & both were very smooth and flavorful. The cucumber martini with a Tajin rim was a great change from my usual bourbon cocktail. Refreshing and smooth, it makes a great anytime drink. read more

Pre-YSB day 2, otherwise known as the day before the official start of YSB SA '17, found me at UYE YSB Early Bird Happy Hour: La Roca. Whoa, this thing hasn't even kicked off yet & I'm already spending a lot of time at local watering holes. Things were already looking awfully boozy. La Roca Cantina was only about 5 blocks from my hotel, so I hoofed it. Under the spectacularly blazing hot San Antonio sun. Hey, I'm from the SF Bay Area, right on the Bay, temps in the 60's & 70's year round. I'm not used to Springtime Texas heat. & that's why I was so happy when I walked in the door. Ice cold A/C & dark inside. What an instant relief. & it only got better. The place is decked out in sharp & neat yet casual decor. The bartender was very friendly, welcoming, & attentive, just a cool guy. Who was also clearly well-practiced at crafting fine cocktails. A few of us YSB'ers relaxed & chilled a while over a few rounds. This UYE was Mike M's baby & he let us know La Roca Cantina was 1 of his favorite bars in SA. I can definitely see why. Great space, great vibe, great service, great cocktails, oh & yeah, it was Happy Hour. The HH deals here were simply fantastic. This bar plays great music but poor management in regard to security has really killed the vibe of the place. A middle aged (50s) caucasian security guard ranted for 20 minutes about how they were breaking TABC law by letting 80 people into the bar over capacity limits. This middle aged (mid 50s) caucasian security guard proceeded to let two large groups of 10+ people into the club through the side door.... after a little persuading (a cash tip). Three guys got fed up of waiting as this middle aged caucasian security guard let in the large groups beyond capacity ahead of the line. When the bar closed this middle aged security guard started handing out life time bans. Apparently the middle aged security guard has an ownership stake in the bar and is able to make business decisions. Ultimately I give this bar 2 huge thumbs down . When security is taking cash tips and breaking TABC capacity regulations... but handing out lifetime bans to patrons who wait in line but get cut because they are unable to profit the security... something business wise needs to be re-evaluated. read more

This is a great little Cantina between the Riverwalk and Pearl Brewery area....a few blocks off of Broadway on 8th Street. Great laid back environment with a huge bar that you can sit all the way around. They've also got regular table and chair setups along with some lounge style areas that are super comfortable...so no matter what style you are looking for, you are sure to be happy here. They've got some great happy hour prices that include $5 cucumber martinis and old fashioned options on there. You can't beat those prices and the drinks are good! Happy hour is typically open until 9. These are the 2 drinks my husband and I prefer and they were good enough we'd definitely come back. What?! A Sister bar to my favorite bar located downtown?! Woot Woot!! This is located right in the downtown area off of Broadway serving up delicious cocktails, that is a well decorated and spacious venue. Don''t worry parking isn't an issue in this part of downtown. Looking for that awesome date night? This is the place to be, its dim settings, fireplace, love seating, and drinks make it all the right settings for that excellent night ;) The drinks, my my, isn't this what you were looking for? These fine artistic mixologist will make you that perfect cocktail. Not sure what to order? Go ahead ask, For you shy folks, I would recommend a Cucumber or Strawberry Martini for those seeking out something sweeter. It's a favorite and well known concoction by many who are fans of this bar. Somewhere this cool isn't quite what I consider a dive bar, in fact, Friday and Saturday nights, you might even find many whom come up dressed up! It's a place where many professionals come to meet and loosen up. So don't be shy to come in dressed nicely. I would recommend it, as I come in dressed to impress all the time! This was our first UYE of YSB2017! And I loved this bar! I really wish we'd had more of a crowd here since the seating in the back is straight up boss, but those of us who were in town early chilled at the bar and ended up Uberrushing some Tuckers (omg, so delicious) while I sipped on my old fashioned. Now again, I almost wish this had been a night event because my drink was hard poured like a motha and that early in a YSB and after flying so many hours I just have not yet built up my tolerance to drink it that stiff. Light weight problems, amiright? I'm so thankful Mike introduced us to this bar! The bartenders and their play list were awesome and we had a great time! A big thank you to La Roca for having us! So, let me tell you how amazing the bartenders here are. I came here on Saturday night. It was still lively with tons of people, and the bartender, Antonia, rocked the crap out of that shift. She's how you would hope every bartender could give service on a busy Saturday night. Then, I stopped in here on a Tuesday night, and I was privileged to see this place truly shine. Antonia makes beautiful drinks. She made the refreshingly sweet "Walk of Shame" and Cucumber Martini, which has a slight pucker yet smoothe finish. Then, the uber talented and passionate Keith walks in and makes this beautiful pineapple tiki drink that (literally) transports you to a tropical paradise with one sip. We, then, took daiquiri shots in honor of San Antonio legend bartender Sasha Petraski. Needless to say I had to take an uber home, but the passion, talent, and friendliness of both Antonia and Keith will definitely bring me back. I am in love with La Roca Cantina! The service is impeccable and laid back. The bartenders make sure your water glass is filled and that you are loving all of your cocktails. I have tried almost all of their specialty cocktails, and may I say that they are very tasty! They do have happy hour that lasts until 9 p.m. (subject to change). I love getting a refreshing Moscow Mule (one of the best in my opinion) or a smooth Old Fashioned. They can make a variety of drinks besides their specialties (Try a Pimm's Cup, or a cocktail with a bell pepper infusion...or whatever infusion they have that day... SO good). Of course they also serve beer and maybe wine? Not too sure, I just come here for the cocktails. :) La Roca is great for groups, as to the many chairs, tables, couches, and bar stools available. It is a pretty good sized place! The atmosphere is relaxing with dim lighting, candles, but not too fancy! La Roca sure has it's own unique, chill vibe. The bar area is pretty ample with plenty of t.v. screens. See how versatile this place can be? I was blown away just walking in the door. This place is beautiful! Great bartenders, awesome prices, a super cool atmosphere. This place is just a win all the way around. I wasn't 100% sure what La Roca was going to be like walking in. I saw an article in The Current talking about a Mexican style lounge, but what is that? Apparently it is a gorgeous bar, a huge space with sofas and lounge chairs, TVs, and probably a lot more stuff that I haven't found yet. Stop in for Happy Hour, it runs til 9pm most nights. Renovations are well done - the place is really beautiful and the bar is great for entertaining and serving lots of folks. For sampling's sake, I tried three of their $7 cocktails. I enjoyed them all. My husband got so excited they sell Chartreuse that he bought way too many shots. Needless to say, the night gets a little hazy from there.... I know the waiters were good. The only weird thing I remember is not dancing. When the drinks are this good and the night becomes fuzzy, people always comment on how I went from quiet and chill to loud and dancy. There weren't a lot of people dancing. I think the music vibe was off for that. It's probably best that I not be too predictable. If their intention is to keep drunks from dancing like fools, they're succeeding. :) read more
