The staff is so inviting and we were lucky to grab a table without reservations (but don't follow our cue: call and make a reservation!). Although I have tried fondue dinners before, where you cook small pieces of meat and veggies in hot oil, we opted for the cheese fondue and loved every bite! The cheese fondue is simply bread and a bowl of cheese (with lots of tasty additional spices), but we added a meat board to supplement the meal. Definitely the right choice! The meat and seafood items have ok quality. I wouldn't say its the best I've gotten at an all you can eat place but decent enough. SERVICE I would say the service is good. Very friendly and always helpful. The first time was the best though. The owner took the time to greet us in person, explained everything carefully and just showed a lot of care. ATMOSPHERE While the previous location was kinda small, the new restaurant is quite large with lots of seating available inside and outside. The best about this hot pot is that everyone has their own pot. It is like your own personal fondue. The Christmas Market time in Germany is super busy and especially on Friday - Sunday. Schumacher alt is the oldest brewery in Düsseldorf. Established in 1838. Thankfully they have modern and clean restrooms to evacuate all the beer drank there. The ambiance of the place is a lively beer hall. There are picnic tables and banquettes of various sizes. The wait staff are intentionally a little rude. Part of their stick. The beers keep coming until you say stop. You get the house brew in 10 oz. glasses. The waiter makes a mark on a coaster each time he brings a round. When you have had enough be sure to put a coaster on top of your glass, or the beer will keep coming. The food menu is large and only in German. It is a good time to use the photo translation feature on your phone. The food was very good and a LOT! As dinner beckoned, we stepped into the first restaurant (Mie Katoen) we saw. The restaurant was a surprise. The atmosphere and decor were very nice - the courtyard was lovely (although it was too cold for me to be sitting outside) and the interior was beautifully decorated with old books (like a library). The food (salad bar) was delicious and I could easily have that without the fondue or stone grill. We had both the fondue and stone grill that evening and we were fortunate to be wearing something that were easily washable. The smell from the fondue and stone grill stayed on the clothes and lingered for a long while after we left the restaurant! The ventilation of the restaurant could be improved. I would definitely want to be wearing something expensive in Mie Katoen. The other shortcoming about the restaurant was the language ability of the serving staff. While the serving staff were very friendly and eager to assist, there wasn't anyone who could communicate in English. This did cause a little difficulty and challenge when making our orders. I guess the restaurant don't see many guests from outside Belgium or the Netherlands.
