The octopus was moist and served on a plate with toothpicks. Funny is that the octopus, although uniquely prepared Italian style, was good but not my favorite dish! We got these snails that were very small but packed with a salty flavor. There were the perfect bar snack! They were my favorite. We also got the tuna which was seared and covered with pistachios. It was served sliced. Yummy!! The chef was gracious and posed for pictures. I would definitely put this in my permanent rotation if I lived here!! I hope to be back. And soon!

A nice touch which adds some ambiance to the place. I ordered a white Pinot Grigio and the server gave me a local wine which was good. A few minutes later, the restaurant opened and I was the first one in (7:30 pm when most Italian restaurants open). Shortly afterward, some more people trickled in but it was not full. The seating was comfortable. I had the scallop appetizer in a special sauce, which was good. For my meal I had the calamaro (European squid) It was also in a sauce and was very good. I'm not sure if pasta was available, but I had plenty of bread which went well with the mea. I would rate this as a €€€ restaurant, as it was a little more expensive than the typical restaurant in the area. The prices in Padua (and Italy in general) are very good. In the U.S. this would definitely be inexpensive by comparison. The appetizer was 17€, the squid was 19€ and the wine 4€ which is typical for the area since it's a local wine. I also had a dessert which was about 6 or 7€. So not bad for a good meal, considering a euro was about $1.09 when I was there. Service was very good as well.

We also ordered an artichoke appetizer that was pretty damn good, But the server... "You can order pizza or pasta, but not both." I asked why, and his response was that they come out at different times. Really? So I asked which one took longer, and he said it was the pasta. My next question: "I don't care if mine comes out before or after theirs, but could y'all just put mine in the oven about 10 minutes before the pasta is ready to be served?" His response: "That's impossible." Though I was frustrated, I left it alone. I figured it was a cultural thing. Cone to find out, it was a La Lanterna thing. Perhaps our server didn't like Americans? Perhaps he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer? Or maybe he was just lazy. Shame on him. The pasta dishes were really good, as was the artichoke appetizer. I'll never know about the pizza.

The night we ate there it was filled with a mixture of tourists and locals. No English menu but one of the waitresses was Argentine so we ordered in Spanish. Lots of super fresh seafood. If you want a table outside, call in advance and make a reservation. One complaint and maybe this is a cultural thing: a couple sitting at the bar had their dog with them. A large dog. The dog barked -- very loudly -- almost the whole time we were at the restaurant. The guy shouted at his dog from time to time, but other than that did nothing. You would have thought the couple would have taken the dog for a walk and returned when he had calmed down. Or that the owner would have said something. Nope. I found it distracting. The other customers seemed pretty chill.

The regular menu is available in English and while the daily menu isn't the staff is more than willing the translate every item on the menu for you, answer questions and offer recommendations. I really enjoyed my fresh grilled scallops and razor clams followed by a crab pasta. The fresh fish carpaccio are also very fresh and flavorful. I'm sure you couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu. The prices are really reasonable for the quality you're getting and of course dinner is followed by complimentary limoncello (or other after dinner drinks). Also, don't forget to try to daily changing house made desserts - they're outstanding.
