You don't know what appealed you so much when you've heard of them but you just can't wait to discover! That's what happened to me for Les Filles Indignes. Maybe it's the name which attracted me actually. You know, when something which should be repulsive (why would I like to spend my precious coffe/lunch time sourrounned by indignity ?!) actually get you attracted. A bit like if I tell you " don't look at my chin " and you automatically look at it ! So when we scheduled our first 2015 Elites Geneva coffee time with (wonderful :) Lisa S. I thought of meeting there ! The place is freshly opened (Jan. '15) and has a great size. Left part is the Epicerie fine and right side is the coffe/drinks/bar area but you can sit everywhere you want and even the left side has couch area. And then, behind, stands the treasure... What makes me like this place more than many others... What makes you feel you are in a movie (romantic one :)... The bookshelf. When I see it, I wish I had an entire life of freetime available. To sit and drink coffee while discovering books. Unfortunately, nobody does. But we all have rainy sundays ;) Though, and that's the only tiny disapointement I would point out : Les Filles Indignes are not open on sundays, for now. It's not that bad. They have plenty of charms to appeal you on week days and why not grabbing a book on Monday morning at 7:30 before starting the crazy week? Aside coffees and Epicerie fine, you will find nice wines as well. Did not taste them but will for sure pass by very soon for afterwork time because they seem deliciously repulsive! ;-) Astuce (which I like SO MUCH that I can't help myself from mentioning it as an Astuce and in my reviews as well) : if you bring a book you've finished reading, they offer you coffee ! (as long as the shelf has empty spaces ;) Hurry!

They had a big selection of chocolate at a variety of price points. This was in the middle of the shopping area and near the train so it was crowded. Lines moved fast and staff were helpful. They have these mini walnut sausages that I've never seen anywhere else. They're expensive, but we treat ourselves to it whenever we're here. Second floor is a mish mash of things but mainly beauty, so lotions, hair dryers, perfumes. Next couple floors are clothing for men and women of course separated one for men one for women. Then there's toys and stationary and luggage. I didn't get a chance to ever eat the actual food here and only the pastries of which both were underwhelming. What's great about this spot is that it's cafeteria style. So you have stations and you can grab your tray and order at the made to order pizza station or curries or sandwich or juices. It was cool to see little mugs with chocolate pieces which you can get hot chocolate made in front of you. Seating can get crazy. Sometimes you'll have to share some tables because some tables are communal where we had an interesting encounter with three guys on their phones seemingly talking to someone on their phones....seemed like they were on speed dating or chat rooms. It was really interesting. Anyways, you may have trouble getting a large table, but be patient. There's also a restroom up here too which is nice. I wish I did get a chance to eat something other than the pastries, but at least it's cheap and fairly fast. If you want something faster, just go to the first floor and grab something from there.

But don't let the "food court" description fool you, this is not your boring pizza-chicken-or-burger type of joint. The restaurant is comprised of islands of food stations, where they will cook/prepare your food behind the counter as you wait. The pizza station has bowls and bowls of fresh ingredients that you can choose yourself, the grill station has sausages, pork chops, skewers, schnitzels, and much more. You can either choose a fresh cut and wait while they grill it for you, and grab a pre-grilled portion if you're not feeling the wait. Nice sandwiches, an extensive salad bar, espresso station, and an enormous counter of desserts, asian stir fry station, and pretty much anything you can think of. The presentation is tremendously appealing, and prices are reasonable (I got away with a nice cut of fresh pork chop and a side serving of rice and grilled broccoli for about CHF16.50). Dining mate had jambalaya, which, as she put it, hadn't quite decided whether it wanted to be cajun or Asian (cajian...?). It's not the highest quality of food you can find, but I definitely did not feel like I was being gypped of my money, a feeling I get way too often here in Geneva. The very presentation of the food, and the option of creating my own dish piece-meal (and thereby having control over how much I actually spend) was almost an empowering experience, food-wise. Despite last-minute additions and cancellations before our meal and the late arrival of some friends, Katinka and Vanessa remained charming throughout. The cuisine is very refined, and the portions are perfect. The value for money is excellent; Vanessa and Katinka are always remarkably cheerful and attentive. We had a friend with a severe disability with us, and the Café staff went out of their way throughout the meal to ensure our lunch for eight went perfectly; they even lent a hand to help our friend get to his transportation. In the spring and summer, there's a lovely terrace with patio umbrellas in the outside courtyard.

I've walked by this structure every day on my way to and from work for two months without ever…read morestopping to wonder if it had a function. It's one of those iconic buildings that just become part of the scenery of a city. Well, it turns out that it's a restaurant/lounge, and one of the "in" places to go for drinks after work. The decor reminded me of Brooklyn or the Meat Packing District in New York, with a lot of exposed cement and pipes across the ceiling. The building must have been a loading dock or something, and they've basically hollowed out the place, set up tables and a bar, and jacked up the value of the old building. The long hall is divided between a dining area and drinking area. An island bar runs across the center of the narrow hall in the drinking portion of the building, leaving very little room on each side. I tend to spend most of my time either pressed against the window or dodging passers-by trying to make it to the other end of the bar. It's crowded, I've heard the food is mediocre on its best days, it's pricey, the music gets really loud as the night progresses, and they have maybe two red wines on the menu. But there's something about walking across a bridge to get to a bar that sits in the center of a European river that I find appealing. There are also old ferris wheel cars that have been converted into tables in the terrace area. A good go-to place when you're gathering people from both sides of the river, as this is dead center!
