I had a very disappointing experience with this packing and shipping company. I used them to ship a clock, paintings and other items from San Miguel de Allende to Massachusetts. They have a very professional Web site, but their service was lacking. They sent a young kid over to look at the things I wanted to ship and give me an estimate. I didn't hear back from them with an estimate and went to their store. They quoted a price which I agreed to. Once they had all the things at their warehouse and I had left the country, they told me that the actual cost would be 4.5 K after they had quoted a price of 3K for shipping and insurance. When items arrived, some oil paintings were gouged with holes and an antique clock had been wrapped in a few clothes and placed in a carton without much protection. It arrived with the glass crystal completely broken and the hands broken off. A small statue was just wrapped in some newspaper and was broken as well. They did an ok job packing a compete set of china, which arrived with only a few pieces broken. Clothes and books were fine. The company was very dismissive when I tried to collect on the insurance for the damaged items since I did not have purchase receipts. I tried to explain to them that these things had been in my family for a long time --- the clock was given to my mother by her grandfather --- and I did not have receipts but could get an appraisal. They completely refused to consider this. If you are looking to ship things from San Miguel, consider another company. read more

I can't say enough about the people who work at La Union. I needed a custom box made for my suitcase so I could bring home some pottery without shipping it. In just a few minutes the guy who works there whipped one up and charged me a ridiculously low amount of money. When I got back to my rental, I realized that it was slightly too big--my fault, no tape measure--and I went back to have it shorted. They did so happily, and wouldn't take another peso. What can one say: I'd love to find that level of service in the US. If you need to ship anything or just a box, this company's the best in San Miguel. read more

Excellent service from La Union. My wife and I purchased a number of pieces of pottery and ceramics and needed to ship them back to the states. We were concerned about breakage, even expected something to be broken, so we also purchased shipping insurance. We brought everything down to the La Union office in San Miguel. Since La Union does not accept credit cards I had to go get some cash but overall the process was quick and easy. I was amazed when the two large cartons arrived. The person who packed everything did an amazing job! How he/she used the newspaper to create padding for the pieces was impressive. Even the boxes were reinforced against being crushed. Each piece was so well protected it took me an hour to unwrap everything and soon I had an entire living room full of packing material; all of which was recyclable which I really appreciated. One small piece of ceramic was chipped. It was so well wrapped I can't imagine it was damaged during shipping. Perhaps it was chipped while it was being wrapped. In any case La Union processed my claim without any question. I also appreciated that they were very forthcoming with their claim process and time limits. And everything arrived on schedule. I can't speak highly enough of La Union! The 9/21 Yelp review is not true because they DO accept credit cards. I just called and verified this with Alma, before posting this review so it would be as accurate as possible. I actually spent more than $500 to ship my packages back to the USA over a month ago paid by credit card and they have all arrived safely and when agreed upon. The team came to my home exactly when they said they would be there, unusual in Mexico. Jonathan speaks perfect English and so do some of his staff. Evidently some of my boxes were not packed well enough to meet the high standards of La Union and I see they took the time to repack them at no additional cost to myself. So kind and conscientious of them! I did a lot of research around town before choosing this company and they seem to have the best rates and arrival times. We bought a lot of pottery and some wooden and ceramic sculptures in San Miguel de Allende. We were leaving fro home the next day. Too much to carry! Yikes! How to get all this stuff home!?! We found La Union on Zacateros and stopped in to see if they could handle our shipping to California. The 2 people staffing the office spoke great English and were extremely friendly, courteous, and helpful. They carefully examined each piece and made a detailed list of the items to be shipped. They assured us that everything would be carefully padded and packed. They said that the box would arrive in about 3 weeks. Our bill for sending a big box of stuff weighing 15 kilograms to San Jose, CA came to about $100. We crossed our fingers and left the store. Much to our surprise, our box arrived about a week after we got home. It was a super sturdy box, 3 layers of cardboard thick. Inside, each item had been lovingly wrapped in a way that protected it from breaking. For example, the carved wooden Virgin of Guadalupe had tissue paper wrapped carefully around her hands and face and any little appendage that might break. On top of this padding was a thick layer of newspaper, contoured front and back to fit all the curves of the statue. This packet was then wrapped in more newspaper, then double wrapped in bubble wrap. Every piece in the box was wrapped just as carefully. There is no way that any of it could have broken in shipment unless a thousand pound weight fell on the box! All of our items were wrapped so well that it took an hour just to unpack the box! Everything arrived in perfect condition. We were thrilled. Thank you La Union. We definitely recommend you to anyone shipping home purchases from San Miguel de Allende! read more
