I walked into this tea room and was in awe of the wide selection of teas they have. I was also parched from the heat and humidity, so walking into a cool room full of tea was like stepping onto a tea cloud. They offered several tea times, I chose the English tea time and they did NOT disappoint. The sandwiches were tasty, the scones were just the right size and I even ordered an Earl Grey tea cake on the side. The tea I chose was a cinnamon black tea - perfect for the fall season. The service was warm and friendly, just like the tea and food. I would most definitely go back or recommend one to try them out, they are just on the other side of the bridge, downtown. Ordering was interesting. You don't pay at the counter but rather at the corner register for everything to-go. On one of the nights when we grabbed a couple of drinks at Gilli, the server loaded my desserts order on a card that I redeemed to my waiter. Then my desserts were served to me a few moments later. So I had tried ricciarelli at another pasticceria down the street, but Gilli's were far more superior. The almond flavor was more prominent, the texture was much softer, and the powdered sugar wasn't broken. Loved it so much that I got boxes of it for myself and loved ones. I had the pleasure of trying all their "mignons" (mignardises) and was particularly fond of the lemon with pistachios, chocolate passion fruit, and coconut chocolate ones. You can smell samples to find your favorite or flip through the impressive menu. You can order a cup of tea or buy loose leaf to take home. Loose leaf tea is sold by weight (grams), and the prices were very fair. I spent roughly €13 on 150 grams of tea and one tea tin (€3) that held 50 of it. (The rest went into provided containers.) All of it traveled home well and made for tasty tea times! The shop also has a variety of chocolates and tea cookies. Everything looked amazing! And the owner was so warm and welcoming. I will make OroNero a must visit on my next trip to Florence and if you're a tea drinker, you should, too!
