Service was perfect--just the right amount of leaving us alone to eat our food and being attentive enough to refill our carafe of water. Thankfully, one of our group spoke French fluently so communication wasn't a problem, but our server (whom we suspect was also the chef) was very patient waiting for all of us to understand what was in each dish while we were contemplating our orders. Three of my friends ordered the sausage, apparently a tradition from Lyon. It was a nice, mild sausage served with scalloped potatoes and mushrooms. Two of the others ordered the special of the day, a veal dish also served with the potatoes and mushrooms. (It seems the man who runs the restaurant has a set of sides, all delicious, that he serves with all the dishes. He executed them well, and they went nicely with everything on our plates, so no complaints there!) They both enjoyed their veal, as well. Most of them got the two-course meal special, where it was a main course and dessert for approximately 15 euro. I ordered a three-course, 19 euro menu with the salade lyonnaise (delicious! I'm not usually a big fan of salad, but the dressing was perfectly done--not too overpowering and just the right amount, there was a poached egg, bacon...everything a salad should have, of course), the magret du canard (duck breast) which came out in large slices cooked very pink but perfectly tender (and with the expected scalloped potatoes and mushrooms), and a hazelnut tart of some kind for dessert. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the each dish, and wine pairing. The food was impeccable. The mushroom appetizer in particular was amazing - I didn't know mushrooms could taste so good! Locals are great great hosts usually, but this owner is a snobby out-of-towner who judges you on your appearance, treats you badly and thinks he's cool.
