This hostel's major strength is that it's cheap. The hostel was overbooked when I stayed there…read morewith a group. You're forced to use an antiquated pay-for-internet-time system that works sporadically at best. The rooms are small. Showers are on a short timer. And, during a stay with a group, the hostel screwed up the reservation with no apology. If fact, the approach of the staff and the manager is that they're doing a favor by just being there. Maybe it works for Germans familiar with such an attitude. But if you're a foreigner be very wary of this place or at least be prepared to be insulted. There are alternative lodgings in Erfurt and Weimar. I would urge you to consider them.

Modern hotel, with an excellent location just off centre (but on the infinitely preferable side of…read morethe city ring road). The room was probably the nicest I have ever stayed in in Germany..which is right, as it was also the most expensive. (See photo below) The sports bar downstairs is rather nice too and a good place to watch German football. I have to take a star away as until recently there was a fitness centre with weights on the 1st floor. It is gone now but was still mentioned on the internet and in the in-room brochure. This led to a wasted half an hour, initially searching on the 1st floor, being sent up to the 17th floor to the wellness centre (a couple of aerobic machines here), back to my room to check the brochure, before a 2nd uninterrupted sweep of the first floor before a 'dude, where's my dumbells?' yielded an explanation from the friendly receptionist (who clearly wondered why a scruff, such as myself, was staying in a primarily business hotel). I'd look at alternatives if I went back, but would not go out of my way avoid staying here again.

The breakfast buffet is one of the neatest, most luxurious things you will experience. There are saunas in the basement as well as a few pieces of fitness equipment. Some staff members are kind of brusque but perhaps that's the German way?

Restaurants, bars and shopping literally around the corner. Check in was easy and friendly. Staff were very kind. Lounge is comfy. We used Bonvoy points so I can't comment on pricing. Car park on site for 22€ for overnight. Our room was 114. Upgraded due to being a Bonvoy Lifetime Titanium Elite member. Breakfast was included. Room was luxurious. Nice robes and linens. Extremely quiet. Garden view. Balcony off our room but it was cold and rainy so we couldn't use. Only negative is Hitler stayed here way back when. This is like staying at Mar-a-Lago now days!

After driving for so long and almost feeling delirious we finally arrive at Steigenberger. After staying at a few places this hotel was friendly and very luxurious. Parking was a bit weird for us. They have a car elevator that takes you to an under ground level to park. The bathroom was very nice and even had soaps and lotion and other things. Everything about this place was nice and the price was good enough for us. Despite the drunk guy that pounded at our door in the middle of the night thinking it was his room. we had a real nice night here at this hotel. I would go back if i had the chance and stay for a few days! We loved it!
