I won't take another instrument there. I had a warranty repair on a brand new 3 day old Gibson I bought from Sweetwater. It was feeding back horribly. I've been building guitars for around 8 years now, so I know my business. My first impression when I dropped it off, was they weren't happy it was a warranty repair, although they are a Gibson Authorized Dealer and Warranty Center. I explained the problem and asked for the tech to call me, a week went by with nothing. When I asked on progress they didn't have a clue they even had it and this is not a big box store. A week later I called again, "oh, it's ready". When I went to pick it up it wasn't fixed, their story was absurd about it's the nature of the pickups (it's not) and they ended it with, it must be a B stock. It isn't. My thoughts are, they just wouldn't honor the warranty and waited for me to come pick it up. I would never entrust Lafayette Music with any of my gear. The attached picture is why I know they never looked at. That would have been their first clue. read more

One Star - Predatory Business Practices We rented a saxophone from Lafayette Music Company last summer. The return deadline was June 1st (which fell on a Sunday). We tried to return it five days later and were told, "Too late - it's yours now." No warning, no reminder, and no option to pay a late fee. Just a hardline stance: either pay Tower Loan $1,200 or continue monthly payments at 28% interest. They didn't send any return reminders, and they don't give you an electronic copy of the contract. It feels like they're hoping you miss the deadline so they can lock you into a high-interest loan. We tried to negotiate in good faith and were told flat-out, "It's your problem now." Absolutely unacceptable. I won't do business with them again and will be warning others to steer clear. read more

Christina Borne Richard did an excellent job repairing this Yamaha trumpet that was badly damaged in a rehearsal accident. The lead pipe was bent, as was the main tuning slide. Because of the dents/ misalignment, the second and third valves were stuck. Christina unsoldered the lead pipe, bell brace, and main tuning slide bow and straitened everything and removed the dents. Because of her accurate alignment, the valves work again! She, then, resoldered the lead pipe, Bell brace, and tuning slide bow. The trumpet now looks and operates as it did before the accident. I had an Epiphone Dot that had a buzz on one fret and had been told that I would need a complete fret job ($ 150). I went to Lafayette Music and they fixed the problem in 15 minutes for $ 5! I recommend them very highly. In my opinion they are the best music store in Lafayette, hands down. read more

I came here to get a ukulele. I was very indecisive at first. I bought a concert ukulele and then decided I wanted a tenor. So I traded it back in and paid the difference. Then I (finally) decided on a baritone ukulele and I made another trade in. They were very helpful and understanding all three times and I they gave me a $20 discount on the baritone ukulele when it was all said and done.
