The reason is the waiter/owner was grumpy and when I asked for a takeaway box for the moyin moyin he actually scowled! Wow. The moyin moyin is quite flavourful but the jollof rice is a real disappointment. I've had far better in Ghana. Two years ago: I popped into here for lunch around 1:30pm today and whilst the owner could have been friendlier in greeting me (a smile doesn't hurt ya know), I appreciated him coming outside the restaurant to hand me my takeaway food where I had waited in the lovely sun for my order. The interior is quite small with only a couple of tables with lovely African sculptures all around. There is chalkboard of specials along with the regular menu. Sadly the sweet potato balls were sold out so I got the moin moin and the spinach stew. All together less than a tenner. There are four pieces of moin moin, which are just deliciously savoury. I recommend eating them with the nonspicy spinach stew with melon seed, which, whilst not delicious, was tasty and filling. It would be perfect on a cold winter night. If I was in the area, I would return just for the moin moin!

It was a strange smell....that I can't put my nail on. After the dog lover excitement wore off I definitely smelt it. Fast forward we were not able to sit in as the owner stated she was going to close in an hour and 30 minutes and you could only do take away at that time. Was not happy about that but just went along with it. Placed out orders for a veggie platter and made sure the injera was gluten free. Walked next door to take a look while she was preparing our food for take away. Came back and the food was packed and ready. Oh and just a heads up they do take card and cash. If you have a US card her machine does take it even if she states she doesn't think it will. I did it and she was shocked lol. Food is packed and we leave. After getting back to our rooms and opening the food...that smell I was speaking about in the beginning we can all smell again. It was a unbearable smell that made it extremely difficult to eat the food. I was able to eat the injera and it really smelled and taste (maybe in my head) like the smell. I ate the veggies and even though it had a slight smell I was able to complete that but the injera was a BIG NO! All in all we could not figure out the smell. The owner was a sweet lady, but I wished she wouldn't have told us to take away as it took away from the experience. I wish I was able to give 5 stars like most folks...but I have to be honest with my experience.

Kokeb is the perfect example of a spot I would have never found without Yelp! Lost in the middle of an unknown neighbourhood (at least to me), Kokeb's street isn't precisely the busiest when it comes to restaurants. 18 amazing reviews and great Yelper pictures convinced me...and oh my this was a great lunch. I wanted to go for the lamb but Genetesh advised me to pick the N°21, "Spicy" beef with 1 injera and a local ethiopian beer to get it all down...perfect combo. Kokeb is all-in-one. Excellent ethiopian food comes together with the local decor & music...and Genetesh is there help you feel welcome, relaxed, at home...she'll also help you out if this is your first ethiopian experience (bye bye fork, hello right hand). A family run business with great taste & heart, and I love that.

We ordered off the Ethiopian menus which was quite extensive. There were only two of us, and, as usually, we ordered too much. For meat we had the regular kitfo with aye band the awaze tibs. The kitfo was perfect, raw with niter kibbe and just the right amount of mitmita. The Ayer was obviously house made. The awaze tibs were also delicious although perhaps a little overcooked. We also had the veggie combo. The miser wat was superb. Even the mild veggies such as the kik alicha were flavorful. And the gomen actually was made with collards, not spinach like often in Europe. The injera was also good. Service was delightful. And we had a choice of several Ethiopian beers. (I did not try any Thai food here. I am also a Thai food snob! But at our current main residence, we get great Thai but only mediocre to poor Ethiopian. Therefore, our choice today! Definitely a winner!

She can tell right away that I was from the states. She was the only person working there and everything was prepared by her. The minced fish was extremely flavorful as well as the doro special tibs. She offered me a glass of water and a bowl of water to wash my hands in it after (its tradition) When i left to say thanks for the delicious meal, the other lady gave me fake smile. Food I had the Egusi which is a stew with ground melon seeds with a blend of African herbs and spinach. This was very delicious and very close to the one I had in Nigeria. With an impressive menu to make any established restaurateur proud; there's an array of food, wine, spirit, champagne, beer (strengthened imported beers like Star and Gulder) and juice to choose from. To kick off this unprecedented sojourn there's the option of fried snails or fish garnished with thick sliced red and yellow peppers in a tomato base sauce. Or alternatively, you could skip starters and go straight in for the jugular. The locals tell me since D' Den's inception it's maintained a loyal following, which include sport and music personalities that partly descend on the venue during the early hours of 5 and 6am for gusto. Overall, this small and friendly spot has a profile second to none. The atmosphere is friendly and the service is polite. My Friday night experience was a blast - something I look forward to doing again sometime in the future.

When else, if ever, do you get to experience West African cuisine of this caliber? I went back home scouring my area for West African restaurants like a mad woman and bookmarking all of them. From the beginning to end, every bite was perfection. Service was perfection. The wine was perfection. We were recommended excellent pairings, and I loved that every dish had a kick to it. If spice is not your thing, even a little, you may not fall in love with Akoko as much as I did. (Can you tell this was my first Michelin star experience lol). I'm a huge sucker for sauce with strong flavors, especially rationed well with whatever it's paired with and Akoko...no notes. If I can pick a favorite part of the evening, I think it was hearing the soundtrack of frogs chirping in the bathroom. Was I transported to a different country? No idea. Either way, this is 100% a repeat visit if I ever come back to London!

It was extremely difficult locating the restaurant as the signage was quite poor in the evening with little to no lighting. Dinner service started off with a coat check. The one thing that stuck out during the entire service was that a few of the front-of-the-house were serving diners in an over-sized t-shirt?!? Although I'm a fan of uniforms, staff wearing a t-shirt in a high-end restaurant was beyond absurd. Staff were very crodial and attentive throughout the evening though. Meal started off with a traditional hand-washing ceremony and towel service. Each of the courses were extremely well plated and came with a fantastic story. The view from the kitchen counter was stunning and world class. Despite some dinners claiming that portions were on the lighter side, I found the tasting menu to be more than sufficient. In fact, I was only able to finish 80% of my meal as I was getting too full!!! The caviar add-on was tasty, although I didn't quite understand it. Perhaps I'm not really a caviar fan?!?

The menu said only medium rare and well done, so I asked if they made kitfo rare. The server said they did, but asked me whether I tried raw before? Rare is the only way that I eat kitfo. The dish was tasty enough, but would've been nice if they provided more cheese than spinach. The injera could've used more sourdough flavor. Prices are very reasonable though, compared to the US. Ambiance: 4 Cosy with wood accents. A nice place to hang out when chilly outside. Service: 3 Slooooow. I wish they told me earlier that their CC machine wasn't working so I could've gotten cash from the ATM before I ordered. I'd been using my CC practically my entire trip and spent most of my currency. After I paid the bill, they never brought my change until I asked.
