I like to treat myself to a taste sensation every time I dine out, I want to experience a well balanced mix between herbs and spices, not too hot, not too spicy, but each bite should include a little bit of zing. I tried out Thai Torbay Restaurant, and was quite impressed with the flavour rich meals they presented our party. Everyone present was raving about their meals, the value for money received, and how they all expected to make this a culinary regular. Thai Torbay does take-aways too, but it's not fast food, just good food on the move.

I regularly used to drive past and see only a couple of diners in there, and assume isn't was fine, but not great (there's three other thai places within a kilometre, so it's got some competition!) . However, it seems to have gotten more and more popular, and was basically full the night we went (here was me thinking we wouldn't need to worry about booking!). The food was really good, so obviously its popularity has increased for a reason. I had a basil chicken dish, which was just the right amount of spicy, and so fresh tasting. The others were well-pleased with their curry choices also - they came in generous sizes with rice on the side. It's BYO, and I think it's something crazy cheap like $2 a person corkage, so that's a nice feature. We stayed and chatted so long that we got serious food envy seeing lots of plates of deep fried icecream come out of the kitchen, so decided to get on that bandwagon. A great choice. Definitely only a sometimes food, and definitely cancels out what was otherwise a fairly healthy dinner, but so worth it. The staff were friendly, though we did have to wait sometime before they took our order, and they perhaps could have a been a touch more attentive with water/asking if we wanted dessert, but overall we had a great time. The offerings are authentic, simple and beautifully presented. The restaurant itself is a perfect reflection of the stunning plates they offer, with beautiful Thai statues and water features all around. I had the good fortune to try the Gai Med (Chicken and cashews) and Yum Nua Yang (beef salad) which you can see in the accompanying photos. The beef was a perfect medium rare, and the salad and chicken dish were both wonderfully well balanced. Highly recommend to all other Aucklanders that share my Thai food fetish!

I think I tried nearly everything on the menu and was never disappointed or left hungry. The mixed entrée is a must, so too the Tom Yum soup. They do all the classics well; Pad Thai, Chicken Cashew stir fry and Massamun curry were our usual go tos. We only ate-in once, but they have a nice Thai themed seating area, with lots of Thai customers (always a good sign). You can also hire private rooms for banquets, which would nice for a low key birthday.
