What an incredibly beautiful gem! Revenue the ride out here is great! Beautiful lake surrounded by mountains & trees. Nice pretty easy trail that loops around the lake (some parts are thin & steep, but made it through with the dog) . Absolutely loved this place on our vacation. Quite peaceful. I counted 6 shelters too so I imagine in spring /summer it gets used a lot. They have porta potties and a 2-stall bathroom for women & a bathroom for men too. Hand washing station outside. We came during the week of October 13th & the foliage was beautiful. read more

Close to public swimming unknown reason beautiful beach nice picnic area would not recommend poor families unless for a picnic

Beautiful and I mean breathtakingly beautiful landscape! Mountains in the distance! Perfect sized body of water for light fishing, canoe, little beach area with lifeguard on duty for a family day with sand and sun, trail surround the park with benches to sit and awe at how beautiful nature can be. Prices are extremely affordable (coming from DC and being used to paying up to $40 for two people to paddle board for 30 mins, which is normal for me). For $3 or so you can take out a kayak per person per hour. If you're fishing make sure to bring all you need and purchase your license AND additional $5 permit to fish there. They sell small snacks and ice cream. Bathroom situation is dicey considering it's a porta-potty but hey honestly all in all I would come again and I would spend days on end here either by myself or with family. read more

In a word: Idyllic. This is the kind of place that poets write about in odes and sonnets. Particularly on a beautiful, clear day lit by golden sunshine blasting down from a cloudless azure sky. Lake Arrowhead itself is a glittering blue placid mirror, reflecting the distant tree-crowned mountains. Lightly wooded areas make up the bulk of the park, with a number of covered pavilions offering shade from the heat of the sun. Even under the trees, the dappled light is far cooler than out in the beating sun. Also, small, but reasonably well-maintained restrooms offer running water, and out behind the bathrooms are two fenced-in showers (which came in ultra handy after running in the Luray Triathlon). Spaces like this remind me that there's time to breathe, to hold out my arms, tilt up my head, and just smile. read more

I grew up in page County in Rileyville and my friends and I spent many summer days at Lake Arrowhead but now we do not go very often because of how crowded it has become. As several other people have stated in the reviews this lake has a rather small swimming area, this is because Page County is not a big area, this lake and swimming area were built with the population of Page County in mind not thinking about tourist and people outside of here. In the recent years the tourism has grown and Lake Arrowhead which was once considered a hidden gem has now become a tourist attraction making it overcrowded and to the point residents of Page do not want to go their , this is the same with Story Book Trail. I use to go with my friends to Storybook and rollerblade or ride scooters and we would sometimes have a little picnic on the overlook but that is all impossible to do now because of tourist. This is really a shame for Page residents, especially the kids because Page County has so little for residents to do already and now they can't even enjoy the few things we have because of tourist taking over everything. read more

Beautiful Park!! We are beach people, always have been. The only problem is that living in Northern Viriginia, the beach is a few hours away. Yesterday, after some google searches, we found Lake Arrowhead Recrecation Park and beach! Well, it's a lake with a man made sandy beach but it was fantastic! The kids running the beach part were friendly and helpful. Cost is a couple bucks to get on to beach and if you want to rent a canoe or paddle boat, it's a couple of more dollars. We rented a canoe for about an hour and just traded off between the 4 of us. My youngest daughter (16) was afraid that it would be too hard to paddle and we'd be done in 10 minutes but nope! We paddled on and off for the better part of the hour. While out paddling, we came upon a stick in the water with some dozen or so turtles sunning themselves! Driving around this small park, and I mean small, while on our way out, we found a few pavilions for picnicing. The grounds were clean and manicured. And fishing was in abundance...the fish were literally jumping out of the water!! We look forward to going back!! read more

In what is becoming an annual tradition, I made the trek out to Lake Arrowhead park again this summer for the Luray Triathlon. The lake itself is gorgeous, especially set against the picturesque mountains in the distance. And for a race site, the lake is more than I could have hoped for when I arrived for my first tri here in 2009, and has come as a comfort every year since. Open water swims can be scary, but at least the water in Lake Arrowhead is pretty clean and clear, which helps for seeing underwater (at least when the sun is shining). I was definitely glad this was my introduction to open water swims. Rest of the park: There are a bunch of shelters with tables set up beneath, great for a picnic if you are up there for the day. There is a playground area for the kids. The bathroom area is small, but is reasonably clean, and there are a couple shower stalls around back as well. All in all, Lake Arrowhead is a great escape if you are looking to get away from the city. And if you're coming from DC, as a bonus, you can take a drive along Skyline Drive, part of Shenandoah National Park, on your way back in, then stop in to some VA vineyards for some wine tasting! (At least for me, it seems no trip is complete without all these things!) read more

This is a fantastic park, complete with numerous areas to camp, shelters, bathrooms and some showers. It's just a couple hours from Washington, DC and has a beautiful albeit small man made lake, Lake Arrowhead. We visited for the Luray Triathlon and were really impressed by, well, everything! The park, the weather, the lake which is great for swimming, the surrounding countryside. This is a fantastic place to camp and ride bikes, swim, and run. It's also a great place to bring kids, have a day trip, etc. I know we will be back! read more

You will have fun here as long as you don't have huge expectations. It was basically a small, crowded patch of sand on a man-made lake. And we were surprised that there were only one canoe and two paddleboats to rent. My husband's family has been going to Lake Arrowhead for years now. It is beautiful place for a family reunion. The covered pavillions are reasonable to rent for the day, the beach at Lake Arrowhead is reasonable cost to go in and enjoy the lake, it is very nice and well maintained. I enjoy it twice a year at both of the family reunions! It would also be a great day trip to make if you wanted to enjoy a beach front lake for just a day with your family! read more

This little park and swimming hole is a hidden gem. Went here on a whim and were so impressed will definitely be back. Worth noting: this is a small swimming hole with shallow waters. Your teenagers are not going to be enterta for long. But it's perfect for toddlers and elementary school aged kids. The beach has white sand (no red clay) The water is clear and the bottom of the swimming area is sandy - not mucky or slimy. We didn't find any dead animals in the water! There is a changing shack - no ac or ventilations so you might want to come in your bathing suits. There are no showers anywhere to rinse off. The swimming area closes at 6pm and they kick everyone out at 5:45. The snack shack is not extensive. Chips, popsicles, drinks. Fee for entry. (5 for adults, 3 for kids). They rent floaties, boogie boards, kayaks. No shade so bring an umbrella The scenery is amazing. It looks like a Bob Ross painting. read more

Pretty lake in the middle of Shenandoah. My husband and some friends managed to catch 2 sunfish using worms in the middle of the day. Which sounds lame but it still exceeded my expectation since they went in the afternoon. I look forward to coming back for night catfishing on our next visit. Best place to go for a stroll while your friends or family is visiting Luray Carvers and you don't want to visit again. My aunt and I took the small trail surrounding the trail. Where river shoes because there's a good bit of rocks in the sand. This is not a big place but overall is okay if you are looking for something low key and cheap. It's 5 dollars for adults and 3 for kids. It shallow water so it's a great place for kids. They have cheap kayak rentals too. This is more of a big pond then lake. We stumbled upon this pleasant little park when we were driving around looking for somewhere to have a picnic. What a nice surprise! We were there Labor Day weekend and had just gotten away from the crowds and lines at Luray Caverns. This park was not crowded! It appeared to be mostly locals. Lots of families and couples. Quiet and peaceful, even on a holiday. We picnicked at a table overlooking the lake with the mountains in the background. We didn't wander over to the "beach", but it looked like a nice enough place to swim. All the kids were swimming out to a dock where they could dive off into the lake. They also rent canoes and we saw some people fishing. This was a nice find for tourists like us who want some local atmosphere (without all those other tourists!). read more

We were so looking forward to a day at the lake sitting on the beach! The website has really nice pics and it's really not that bad, but we got there for an early start only to find out the beach area didn't open til 11:00 so we had almost 2 hours to kill. The area around the lake, which really seemed like an oversized pond, is not very easily accessible by foot. The fence surrounding the beach area is a bright orange netting and pretty ugly. There are really nice pavilions around the park though. Take your own food though because the 'consession stand' consists of chips and sodas. We made the best of it though and played badminton at their one net and played in the small swimming area. There is also a small dock to jump off of, just not alot of area to jump into. The bottom is sandy which was nice. Knats are very annoying as well. The young men running it that day were friendly and easy going but watchful as lifeguards. One of the kayaks had a hole in it when my daughter went out and it filled with water and tipped her. Luckily her brother was with her and she was able to hold onto his to get back to shore, which could have been a dangerous situation for someone. (It was just funny for us). All in all we made the best of it but won't be going back anytime soon. read more
