Kristina was our tour guide, and she was very kind, professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. She provided the children in our group activity groups and provided fascinating information about Native American Indians and the Trail of Tears. She refused money and tips. Instead, she requested that we only sign the guest book. If we liked, we could provide a donation to the Heritage Center. It was an honor to have Kristina as our tour guide and learn more about Native American Indians.

It is small but nonetheless quite moving. In addition to being the resting place for two Cherokee leaders it was also a winter camp and ration stop along the Trail of Tears and there are benches along the path around the former camp area to take in the surroundings. My family and I was in town from Louisville for my daughters cheer competition. Whenever we visit towns we like to check out public art and unique or obscure places in the towns. Deep in a Google search I discovered the Roseanne house was in evansville. How cool is that? I loved this show growing up. I couldn't wait to get This page added to Yelp and share my experience. It is very much an active and lived in house. It does not offer tours which is fine because the show was shot in a studio audience. So the outside of the house is all that was ever used. So you get your photo ops from the street level. To respect the current owners policy we stayed across the street. A few other people did the same. This house is located on a side street right across from Evansville university. I'm not sure the connection to the show and this house in Evansville but it was a cool trip down nostalgia lane for me. Overall very cool and fun find and an easy few minute place to check out. Lastly, I wonder if this house goes all out on Halloween decorations? How cool would that be? A bit of history, On a secluded farm about 30 minutes from Clarksville, in Adams, Tennessee, lies the Bell Family Farm and the Bell Witch Cave. One of the most documented cases of a haunting in American history, most people have heard the story of the Bell Witch. From 1817 to 1821, a man named John Bell and his family were harassed by a mysterious and invisible spirit now known as the Bell Witch. According to the legend, the witch had the ability to speak, shapeshift, and be in multiple places at once. Former president Andrew Jackson was quoted as saying "I had rather face the entire British Army than to spend another night with the Bell Witch" after he and some of his troops spent a night at the Bell's farm. The tour is good, the area and history draw you in. I felt sadness, and history, energy lingering. There are books, movies, songs about this family, and scientific research. There are paranormal tours, and more for your enjoyment of the unknown!

As the HQ of one of the most famous military units in history, you'd expect the 101st building to…read morehave some historical displays... and you'd be spot on. The structure itself is unique and sets itself apart from anything else on base. Big and blue! The first thing you might notice is the walls adorned with historical artifacts, signs and sculptures... that is if you miss the 10' obelisk outside. As you walk further in, there's an impressive Medal of Honor Rotunda with life sized jumper suspended my parachute lines in the center. Pretty Cool. Walk around. You'll see a display dedicated to Old Abe, the Eagle on the 101st insignia. My favorite was the small statue of the Paratrooper with the air-filled chute after landing. Brought back memories of trying to unclip while the parachute was nearly dragging me along the ground. Check out the pictures. Hope you enjoy.

Memorial Day 2021. The Gander Memorial by the Pratt Museum was very impressive. 256 sugar maple…read moretrees are planted by the memorial. Each one has an American flag. I knew very little about the memorial until I read about it that day. The Gander Memorial honors 248 soldiers and eight crew members who died in the tragic plane crash Dec. 12, 1985, at Gander, Newfoundland, Canada. This horrific plane crash resulted in single largest loss of life the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) has ever endured. I enjoyed walking on the sidewalk circling the memorial. It was a time to meditate and remember.

Friday May 16, 2014, Tony and I was visiting this lovely little historical river town in Illinois…read more It reminded me so much of little towns along the Ohio River in Ohio and West Virginia The house was closed the day we were here, so I was able to take some photos and then look them up on the internet to find out the history. Below the History of the home and the connection to the Trail of Tears Buel House, according to local tradition, was a significant site on the Cherokee Trail of Tears. The family of tanner Alexander Buel (?-1894) was said to have fed pumpkin to hungry Cherokee Indians being driven west by the federal government in 1838. The story is probably not true, however, since records indicate that the house was built in 1840. Still, it is a historically significant structure, having been continuously occupied by generations of one family for 146 years. There are indications that over the years Cherokee stopped at Golconda to trade while journeying to visit their former homes in Georgia. The Buel House, along with much of Golconda, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, as part of the Golconda Historic District. Situated at the base of the Ohio River bluffs, the two-story rectangular square-log structure has one-story additions on the east and north sides of the original building. Also on the site is a restored and furnished log cabin used for interpretive programs by the Pope County Historical Society. A paved lot provides parking facilities. The Pope County Historical Society provides maintenance services for the site and volunteers for guided tours. I would like to go here and check it out and tour the home. It is located down near the Rivers edge on Water Street.

The school was restored to the one-room school that operated at Higgerson Landing in 1948. The Higgerson School is a window to the educational practices that shaped and served rural America from the early 19th century. Nice School !
