It has never been busy, which I love. I'm from So-Cal and all the hiking and trail parks were always packed with people. I used to hate it when people would hike with their speakers on full blast, so annoying. This park is a complete 180, so peaceful. Another perk is you can bring your dogs on a leash. One thing I wish they had more of are trashcans to dispose of poop bags instead of having to carry the bags until you are back in the picnic areas. I wouldn't go into the trails during the winter since there are a lot of roots sticking up and could be dangerous. Highly recommend during the summer and fall, gorgeous.

And I'm not ashamed of it. You see this is one of the nicest (but not newest--hence the charm) playgrounds I've been on. It's not that new plastic-y stuff. No, this is a good old fashioned wooden set, but massive, sprawling, and the kind of place a kid dreams is a fort on the old frontier, a pirate ship, or a rocket. The rest of the park is nice, too. In fact, I haven't wandered the trail part of it much. But I did dig the ponds, even though by late summer I noticed they were pretty marshy. Since Mason is a pretty small town, you don't need to know much to find it. Just head west on the main road out of town and you'll see it there on the right. Great to come and walk, play with the kiddos, or have a little picnic. I closed my eyes and did that today, and for a second I was there, even if just in my mind.

The park is located on the Grand River near the Lansing Country Club. The park itself is pretty large and very beautiful! There are elevated views of the river, a stunning rose garden, a sprawling lawn, a playground, and a large pavilion for events. We enjoyed the shade of the pavilion on the hot June day, and the kids at the party had fun playing on the playground. There are built in cornhole boards which the older kids had fun with. There are some short trails around the rose garden area that we walked on and stopped at the lookout point to check out the river. This park would be a great place for a wedding, wedding photos, birthday parties, picnics, etc. -- if I lived in the area, I feel like this would be my go-to park! No fees for parking or entrance and clean restroom facilities round out this five star park.

It's a neighborhood park that's got some parts that are a bit rundown (basketball court is grass with mouldering hoops, and there's a decrepit baseball diamond.) There are also some very nice improvements, such as a playground. There are plans to add a kayak launch in the future, which is a great idea, as this park runs along Grand River. There's also an area that they're allowing to become naturalized, with some hiking trails winding through. Altogether this is a great neighborhood park, but not really a destination park yet.

A real treasure hides down the hill behind the playground: access to the Ledges and the Ledges Trail. It's amazing to see the giant sandstone outcroppings and to wind in and around. Part of the trail follows right along the river on one side and the ledges on the other, giving a good view of the variety of animals, including birds, turtles, and more. I did a walk up this particular day and all was fine. The staff and the ladies that checked me in were very friendly and helpful. They have various tours you can do. I paid by the hour, it was $20 for two hours which is not too shabby. I was also given an additional twenty minutes for free. They take both cash/card. Be sure to bring water as there is none available on site. Although I believe there are a few water fountains at Lansing Marketplace just adjacent to where the landing is. You sign a waiver, get your life vest, and head down to the water. You jump in your kayak, staff pushes you into the grand river, and you're off. You can opt to paddle upstream which is a great workout or you can float your way downstream whichever you prefer. Overall, cool little place to come and partake in outdoor activities. The grand river water is murky, and not the cleanest looking. However, do not let that deter you from having a good time.
