This bridge, like many, apparently outlived its usefulness as a conveyance, but was turned into a sort of park. The greenery covering the area is quite robust and a lot of effort clearly went into designing and maintaining it. At one end, a spot for people to hang collars up to memorialize their dogs demonstrates that apparently visitors here like tiny yippy dogs a lot more than I do, but it is still a nice touch. When I visited, they were working on building a visitor center and parking was limited (one end is a separate business whose parking lot is devoted solely to that business as designated by numerous angry signs). However, a water fountain and portapotties were still available. This isn't a place where you'd spend an enormous amount of time, but it is well done and certainly worth a look, and there is no charge to cross. read more

Although early in the plant and flowering season the Bridge is nonetheless beautiful, educational, and demonstrative of plants that can be grown in this area. The area is clean, well maintained and free to visit. Our other purpose for visiting was to place the collar of our beloved, Shayna, on the pet memorial, Rainbow bridge. What a sight to behold. Collar upon collar were lovingly resting on a wooden structure honoring pets that have passed. With tears flowing, heavy laden sadness, and eternal unconditional love we placed Shay's collar in a final tribute to this beautiful wonderful companion. What a gem! Congrats to the residents of Lake Lure whose ingenuity made this possible. My two and four year old granddaughters absolutely loved all the ‍ fairy exhibits, especially the one with the childrens' table and seats where they played with the rock bunnies and carrots. The doggie memorial bridge brought tears to my eyes and I remembered my dog Grady who passed away two years ago. The only problem was that there was a bad odor in that area so we couldn't stay for long. There was ample parking on the week day that we went. Such a cool idea and so well-done. These people know and love their flowers. It was mid-May when we visited, so not everything was in full-bloom yet - I can only imagine how great it would be in just a few more weeks. It's simple enough, but you can tell the community is proud of this little flowered stretch of land. Such a wide variety of flower types, colors, plants, herbs - the garden walkway and surrounding area are stuffed everywhere you look. Mostly tagged too, so you can know what your favorites are and find them for trying at home. There was a dozen other people browsing at lunchtime, so perfect pictures weren't really an option. A great bit of local flavor, and a good chance to stretch your legs passing through after lunch at Lured Market. read more

The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is a gem. Admission is free but donations are always welcome and best of all you can visit anytime of day. The Flowering Bridge was once the Broad River Bridge that was built in 1925. When a new bridge was built to replace the bridge a group of advocates and volunteers worked to keep the historic bridge. It has since been transformed in a lovely pedestrian bridge that has many types of flowers and plants. The gardens are divided into different themes. There are also ferry gardens to look for that are so creative. Make sure to give yourself enough time to visit the bridge to take in all the beauty and enjoy the views. They have cell phone tours; added braille so all can enjoy and most of it is wheelchair friendly. read more

We visited during the winter, and we had a fantastic time. We learned so much about different types of plants. And we saw the beautiful winter jasmine and cotoneaster. There are so many beautiful works of art here, too. Even in snow or ice, it would be a lovely place to walk and think. read more

Beautiful spot in town that should be on your to-do list! It is an old bridge that has been converted into a garden! There are smaller gardens within that have themes ( Mr McGregors Garden and a rainbow bridge garden)as well as many others. Kid and dog friendly! There is parking at either end of the bridge. This Foot bridge is blooming with joy, touching your heart with the rainbow bridge, and encouraging your curiosity of new plants. The day we went is at the fall. It was not much flower to spot. You still can imagine this bridge in the spring time should be the numbness sot to visit. I like they built the pedestrian bridge with flower decorated on the bridge. Event they do not carry more flower during autumn, it has many good corner with special set garden. Each one have a theme. Such as pumpkin angry bird, fire place, flamingo, circle stone. The decoration is matching the Halloween season. The bridge with decoration did not fade away from it color. What a unique and special place, especially if you like flowers, plants, and creative gardens. I HIGHLY recommend visiting this free attraction if you're in the area (donations are appreciated). Even the guys enjoyed it. We met several of the volunteers who tend to the garden and they all loved their work. I took lots of pictures so I could try to replicate what they've done back home. There were lots of butterflies flitting around and we managed to capture a few great shots of them. You could "do" the bridge in 10-15 minutes if you rush but I'd recommend taking your time and really absorbing and admiring all the creative nooks and crannies. read more

When I first heard of this bridge after being in the area for a few days I assumed it was a bridge consumed by the infamous Kudzu the fast growing vegetation that was intentionally introduced to North America from Japan in 1876 at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia and then again in 1883 at the New Orleans Exposition, this non-native dense mat of monoculture has taken over many areas in the south, it ability to cling to and climb nearly any surface smothering any vegetation in its path. The battle to eradicate it has been futile, what once was thought to be a fodder for livestock and an erosion control plant has turned into a multimillion dollar problem that simply won't go away plus its ugly. Although the Kudzu lingers nearby it hasn't taken over this bridge yet. The small parking lot on either side of this bridge provides parking to those that choose to walk across this flowering concrete monolithic. It seems there was no grand scheme in place when this exotic garden was conjured - it's as if some legerdemain may have taken place before the council could convene on the fate of the abandoned bridge. The variety of flowers and plants seem endless - not being a horticulturist I can't say if all the plants are native to the area but they all appear to be popular with the many species of butterflies and a monophyletic lineage of bees. My favorite time to visit is early evening, the tourist have given up for the day and the smell of jasmine and honey suckle consumes the air. The beauty here is made up of a magical collection of nature and art and is preserved by the conviction of those that walk the paths ever so careful not to trod on the living and also by some very well placed high definition cameras... read more

Driving from Cherokee, NC to Lake Lure we went thru Chimney Rock which is a narrow road with lots of tourist shops on each side. The shops are close to the road because there is a stream on one side and is steep rocky on the other (reminds me of the old Gatlinburg before the fire). But a little outside of this is an out of use bridge the local garden club has adopted and made it into the Flowering Bridge. It is so pretty and creative with all kinds of educational materials/ workshops, funky yard art and quant sitting spots. It's over a branch of Lake Lure so the water feature only adds to the serene effect. Community members could buy commemorative bricks like my friend and husband did. So now it is a sweet memory and a natural destination if you are in the area. read more

We stayed in an air bnb right next to flowering bridge. Even though it was late fall it was still worth the walk. Make sure you stop by the rainbow bridge garden where people have tied the collars of their pets that have crossed over. It's truly heartbreaking but so sentimental. read more

This place was just one of the short stops for my family to get out of the car and stretch from long drive from Chicago, but we all decided to stay longer like for an hour there because they decorated the bridge so nicely, and the view was so beautiful as we started walking on the bridge. My daughters started to take pictures near from all those different kinds of pretty flowers with lake and the mountain view.
