Lake Lynn Trail has trumped Lake Johnson for me. This is my neighborhood lake and I'm loving it. It's dog friendly and many people grab their boats and fish here. It's a wonderful place for cardio or just to get a peace of mind. Hare Snipe Trail is my favorite. Very scenic and a nice little distance to walk. I was able to take some amazing photos of the water and all the wildlife. Unlike Lake Johnson there's plenty of parking available. I love it here. read more

A beautiful trail to walk/run. I jogged around this trail, which was about 2.25 miles per loop. There's a parking lot to park at and while the trail doesn't offer super majestic vistas, there is a nice little lake (which kinda looks like a pond) and a wooded area that goes around it. It's decent jogging track, although parts of the boardwalk can be a tad slippery so watch out for those. I saw some wildlife, including some turtles. The trail is on the popular side, so you'll definitely encounter lots of other people. The trail is also accessible from different neighborhoods/apartment complexes as part of a Greenway connection. All in all - I thought it was a worthwhile jogging spot and recommend coming here if you enjoy outdoor recreation! read more

I love this trail! I have recently discovered it and (don't judge me) I think it's a great trail to go out on to hatch some eggs in Pokémon Go! I wish I was kidding but.. I gotta Catch Em All somehow, right? I would give this trail 5 stars if only it weren't so busy. Every time I'm on the trail, there are usually many other people too unless it's been raining. A handful of them are wearing masks but not a majority. (PSA: Please wear your mask!) I would recommend this trail to walkers and runners. I can see it being a good place for a an outdoorsy family outing... maybe that's why there are always so many people there. So much nature and I love seeing the ducks and turtles in the water (PSA #2: Please don't feed ducks and turtles human food!) Anyways... There's also a park nearby, accessible from the trail, and it's easy to get to. Highly recommend for a couple of #artsy lake pics too, if you're into that kind of that. read more

I was visiting some friends and luckily we all try to get in at least 2 miles of walking a day. Lake Lynn Trail is pretty perfect for this endeavor! Just over 2 miles (if I recall correctly) and mostly shaded made it the perfect destination in the HOT HOT Humid Summer afternoons. read more

We are all entitled to our own opinions, right? Well here's mine: Parking: 4 Location: 5 Decor/ambiance: 5 Customer Service: na Lake Lynn is a super awesome mad convenient trail if your staying in the triangle. If you happen to be in the mood for a nice stroll and you're OK dodging goose poop... this the trail for you. Lots of people tend to migrate to this paved loop during the summer months so don't be surprised when you arrive and its hard to find a parking space. For the most part its people on foot on this trail but occasionally you will hear "BIKE ON THE LEFT" indicating that a bike is behind you. The lake is super nice and its sitting right off the back of several apartment complexes so for the most part you feel really safe. Lots of mini rolling hills that you'll cover in 2.25 miles. Be sure to give this trail a try when your in the Raleigh area. read more

This trail is truly a beautiful hidden gem There's a good amount of people on the trail at peak hours in the afternoon so I would recommend visiting early mornings or evenings. There's plenty of shaded trail with foliage, animals, and scenery. There's also a good amount of parking. I also feel safe when walking this trail. The only downside is no restroom area. read more

I started on the north side of the trail, coming in from Lake Lynn Community Center and was excited to find the boardwalks where the lake turns to wetland. All nature, ducks and turtles. The rest of the trail hugs the perimeter of the lake- sounds nice right? Well, apartment complexes also hug the perimeter of the lake, which doesn't really leave you feeling immersed in nature. Ok, that happens on many of the Greenway miles in Raleigh. Fine, but there are better, more secluded Greenway sections to be had. What I really couldn't stand were the large advertisement boards for said apartment complexes, strategically placed feet from the Greenway. Almost every complex had one, on both sides of the lake. No one needs more advertising in their life. That really ruined my walk and I definitely won't be making the effort to come here again. Shelley Lake is my go to. read more

Easy 2.6-mile paved trail around Lake Lynn. It is beautiful and serene, especially in the early hours of the day. The trail is often busy with people from the community, since there are several apartment complexes that circle the lake as well and each has trail access. One of the access points is Lake Lynn Community Center and Playground, making it a family favorite destination. Lake Lynn is full of wildlife, and you can usually see geese, ducks, and turtles as you circle the lake. read more

I have lived with the Lake behind me for 2 years before venturing out to the trail. What was I waiting for?!?!? This is a total treat. I had brought my bike down to the path as I was told its a great ride and while there were times on the path I was glad to have good tires and at times had to walk thru, it was so peaceful. I'm told that it is less crowded now because of the summer heat and Covid but there were plenty walking along. Not a lot wore masks but as I sped by on 2 wheels it wasn't a concern. Also...outside. The pathways need a little maintenance in some spots due to heavy rains and flooding. The flora and fauna were so beautiful. I stopped at one of the bridges to see the line of turtles sunning themselves and watched the ducks race over in hopes of me being a patsy. Sorry birdies...no corn in summer only in winter! There are these nice little bridges where you can take a breather and enjoy the lake. I don't think swimming is allowed but drowning worms is fine. read more

Love, love, the Lake Lynn Trail. I'm out there on a weekly basis running or walking. It's about 2.19 miles around the loop. Along the way, you'll be either on a paved greenway trail or the wooden bridges. Nice curve around the lake, which is home to many creatures. We love to marvel at the turtles and are usually amused at what I call "turkey ducks." Plenty of ducks to feed, if you bring some bread. Avoid the geese, like most, they're full of angst. This trail is definitely one of my happy places. read more

Just moved from RI and this is my form time "hiking" in Raleigh. The trail is about 2.5 miles. Pretty easy to walk or run. Everything is either paved or wooden bridges. Went around 9:30 am and there was some people there. Some walking with their dogs others jogging or just walking with their kids, like I was. Plenty of parking. Good trail for beginners. read more

Lake Lynn is a beautiful but highly trafficked trail. It's not ideal for cycling due to the heavy pedestrian traffic and narrow paved roads - lots of pups are also along the way which naturally leads to some squabbles due to the narrow paths they travel on. Highly recommend for walking or jogging along the lake. In times of the pandemic most folx have masks on which is reassuring giving the amount of people on the trail. read more

This was the perfect spot for me To socially distance walk. Most people had masks. Nice flat walking trail with a few inclines just the right mix. Saha nice little wildlife like turtles and ducks. Great place to enjoy nature. read more

Nice lake loop. I think it's about 2-2.25 miles for the main loop. There's parking off of Lynn rd. and Ray rd. And, the theme remains for green spaces in the area- no public restrooms. There are a lot of wooden slat bridges over the lake where you can feed ducks with kids.. There are also a few people who fish. I surely hope it's just for fun. Can't imagine there being a lot of edible fish, but who knows! read more

The garden was officially dedicated in 1951 and remains one of three accredited rose gardens in North Carolina. The area has a fascinating history. The sunken, oval-shaped space was a dirt race track back when the NC Fairgrounds was located there. Then, during World War I, the space was converted into a training ground for Camp Polk's combat tanks. The racehorse track and the combat tank training trench were reimagined into the space we get to enjoy today. The mud hole was drained, and the land was reshaped by volunteers. The tier-terraces were a way to keep the water from washing away the future flowers. The amphitheater was constructed first, and it took years for the rose garden, as there was no budget for it during World War II. Nurseries, community garden clubs and even private individuals donated the rose bushes and native trees, Normally, there is a free parking lot, but my visit today had the lot blocked off as a tree brought down power lines. So there was parking available on the streets surrounding the gardens. My visit today was short: it was 97 degrees out, and my phone overheated during my stroll. I realized I might be overheated, too and made my way back into the air conditioning. It is a stunning, historic oasis that is well worth the visit--just remember to bring a cold bottle of water on hot afternoons!

It saved me the 4 hour trip to Bear Island. I arrived early around 10:30 a.m. and there were no crowds. We camped out near the showers and bathrooms. This park is perfectly lined with trees in abundance. Perfect for barbecuing. We enjoyed our morning picnic and the water was very relaxing. I appreciate how clean the sand area was and the garbage was well organized as well. I brought my mother who is 72 and I had concerns about the proximity of the restrooms and showers and overall access. I was relieved to discover how convenient the beach access was for those with mobility impairment and disabilities. There are no pets allowed and no alcohol permitted. I watched the park rangers escort someone with a pit bull to the parking lot to return home and a woman was asked to dump out several beer cans. You have been warned. They run a tight ship here. I plan to return throughout the remainder of the summer months.
