But, it did it's job. The 'complimentary breakfast' was coffee, juice, and stale muffins. By the time I got there (like 9:15am) everything was out of stock and dirty. Place smells like stale food and cigarettes. It's quiet. In a good location. Staff was nice enough. No fitness area. No pool. Vending machines were stocked. Mini fridge, microwave, teeny little Keurig. (It's so cute.) Awkward "artwork" on the walls. How do I sell a kindergarten flower painting to a motel?! It's fine if you simply need to lay your head for the night. Decent little bars of lotion-y soap!

I came up to check in and he just looked at me while he played on his phone for a few minutes, before eventually coming over to start the check in process. When he finally came over, he barely said anything and checking in felt very awkward. The whole building, including the room, had an off-putting smell. The rooms must have very thin walls, because it was extremely noisy the entire time as well. The shower head was broken. It just dribbled water out. You could change the settings, but that just sprayed water all over the place. The bath towels were comically small. I thought they were hand towels at first. I know that motels tend to have smaller towels, but these were really tiny. The only good aspects of this place were the location and comfortable beds. I've done a lot of traveling and I didn't have high expectations here, but this Days Inn was quite disappointing. It seems to have been partially remodeled since the last time I stayed here, but it's somehow gone downhill.

To my surprise, we the campsite was really great and we all had a fantastic time (and no one killed each other!) We are big campers, living in Colorado, but this Nebraska campsite was really pleasant in comparison to many we've been to over the years. I credit our campsite location (78/79/80) because it was nice a shaded, not super crowded and had a beautiful view of Lake McConaughy. The sites in the front near the restroom and shower facilities were really crowded and loud, so my experience would have been much different if we were there. The bathrooms were really nice and even the outhouse near our campsite was not terrible(you know... for an outhouse!). There is a great little store at the entrance that sells pretty much anything you can think of (including coffee!!! since the person in our group in charge of the coffee decided to sleep in both mornings!! She's fired!) All in all, we had a great time and will most definitely be back!

We usually…read morestay at the beach houses right across from Martin Bay, but we weren't able to secure any spots there, so we went with the only available area for a group of 10, and Eagle Canyon was it. Based on other reviews and the photos I was able to set my own expectations for the trip. I knew our cabin, the lily pad would be tight. But it was just my husband and two little kids. Our cabin was narrow, but still had a semi-kitchen. Mini fridge, stove up, small bathroom, and a bunk bed + full bed in the bedroom then a futon pull out. My 6'4 husband had to sleep on the futon because he was too tall for the bedroom, but that was fine by me because the bed was actually really comfy. Overall, we spent almost no time in our cabin. Our in-laws had a butterfly cabin which is very similar layout to the lilypad, and my mother and father in laws cabin was the eagle, so it was bigger. They had a full fridge so we stocked a lot of food there and they were a bit more secluded. The cabins we were in are tucked in between mobile campers so we started with a lot of neighbors and then they left over the week and it was just cabins. Now, onto the amenities, they have a general store with a lot of what you might need if you forgot some food items and drinks, including alcohol. They had beach toys and stuff for kids. The staff was SUPER nice and really friendly. The play ground was nice, they have basketballs for the court, and we enjoyed the pool, it was really perfect for toddlers not sure about teenagers. On our favorites was the pony rides on Sunday, our kids really enjoyed that. It was a really unique place to stay for 3 nights and I enjoyed getting all my steps in going back and forth. There is a trail to walk close to the beach. If you don't mind the 30 mins daily drive to the beach its a good place to stay.

We stayed in the Eagle Cabin which was very comfortable and perfect for what our family of 3 needed. The bed was comfortable and towels were very nice for a camping cabin. The only slight complaint/feedback I have was that the kitchen items could have been in better condition but it's a small cabin and understandable that they're kind of bare minimum. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the entire area and overall respect of the property and other guests. The pool wasn't exactly first class but the kids LOVED it and had a blast. Very friendly service. The location was OK- a bit of a drive (10 Minutes to the nicer beach) but we would totally stay here again and highly recommend. (I also want to add that adjusting your expectations is helpful- I looked at some of these reviews and honestly, You are signing up for a camping area in Nebraska- not the Ritz. We have been to beautiful spots and airb&bs and we're pretty picky so this was exactly what we signed up for- a fun low key family camping adventure)

First,…read moreKingsley lodge is now under new ownership and the old reviews are not really applicable to the business under the new ownership. Second, it is no longer called Kingsley Lodge but Kingsley Dam Resort on their website. You can also find the same exact cabins on Airbnb. It's cheaper to book through their direct website. Don't try to copy and paste the address from their website into Apple Maps. For some reason, it reroutes you a different way. We solved this by just dropping a pin at 1510 N-61, Ogallala, NE. (Check in at the gas station) I highly recommend that the owners of the lodge update this page so that customers aren't confused like we were! Third, yes the cabins are directly across from the water. However, I would not consider it accessible for most people. My husband, toddler, and I were able to climb down the trail by taking turns in passing off our child in between the rocks. I would say most moderately fit individuals can deal with the steep climb. I don't recommend taking a small child unless you are very confident that they can handle it. With that being said, WOW it was well worth the hard work to arrive to our own private beach. It was hard to believe that we were in Nebraska and not Southern California! The cabins ARE clean, but pretty dated. By the time we paid the nightly rate, pet fee, and other fees, it came to $200 for the night. I did feel that it was worth it but I really wish that we got more bang for our buck. It is called a resort but I don't believe there are any real amenities like a pool or anything. I think there is a lot of room for progress in this area. For dinner, we went to Driftwood in downtown ogallala. (About 12 minutes away). The burgers were very good and supplied by a local beef ranch. I recommend eating there for a nice dinner. Overall, 4/5 stars. I'd say this would be an excellent spot for people that love adventure. As most of their online reviews and FB page says, the new owners are superb and are bringing this place in an amazing direction!
