We brought a picnic and the fur babies and made a day of it! The only tiny complaint was the QR codes were scratched out so there was no way for people to pay for parking. A sign update is definitely needed but this was during the government shutdown so I'm sure that wasn't available. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked, trails were in excellent shape, trash cans were pretty full due to all the people but not overflowing. If you can make it on a week day it would be a lot easier to find parking. This is an Oklahoma must do!

They have a carnival and inflatables for kids too. But this state park itself is one of my favorites. I've been going since I was a child, and the lake is so beautiful. I love to rent a paddleboat! They have yurts to rent, putt putt golf, and a snow cone/coffee stand that has become better and better over the years. The lookout kitchen is finally open after that whole debacle with the state, but I need to go back and try it. The building is beautiful though and right in the water. We've camped here in our RV too, and the spots are spacious, quiet, and very woodsy. It's always fun to hike up to the cave too. The history of this area is so cool. The trails are great, and there are options for ability levels. I always go green or yellow. You can often find people rappelling too! Definitely give this state park a try.

Wasn't much water in the spring but the creek was flowing with a heavy smell of sulpher. Also stopped by the Buson viewing area but did not see any. Not sure how many are left here. We drove around thru the park nd seen a deer eating along the road. Wasn't scared at all. There are several swimming holes and small waterfall/rapids areas with plenty of camping spots. There were a lot of folks out and camping. The park is about 10k acres sitting in the start of the Arbuckle Mountains. Great day trip.

This state park is a State Secret. Maybe it is different on weekends, but we took our RV to stay a…read morecouple of nights, and we virtually had the whole park to ourselves. It is a beautiful park, with a large pretty lake, playgrounds everywhere, a boat ramp and dock, lots of shady and treesy tent, RV, or picnicking spots. It is probably one of the prettiest parks we've been to. It deserves a lot more press, and appreciation than it is apparently getting. With that said, I must be honest, too. The RV sites are not cement or paved, they are a combination of rock and grass, and unlevel. We moved two times in as many days to get level enough to walk around inside and sleep normal. But on the plus side, since it was a "state secret", we basically had our choice of spots. So if site #2 doesn't work, try #6. We ended up parking across two or three sites to finally get level-ish. But that's ok because we were the only ones there. And the view was perfection. There are two campgrounds. The one we were in had electric and water at each site. Also a bathhouse and bathrooms as well. The dump station is in the other campground, so we got a chance to go there and look around as well. Those sites, apparently, didn't all have water access. Unless you had a REALLY, really long water hose. Same beautiful atmosphere and view, just from a different angle. Same empty campground. Same unspoiled (code for no cement) parking sites, playground, lake, tent sites, picnic areas. I personally LOVED this park (could you tell?). Serenity is my desire. Peaceful, God's gifts on display. Husband liked it a lot, too, just didn't LOVE it. (City boy, what can I say?) The last night, another RV pulled up and he ate up the human contact and conversation (all socially distanced, of course). So, I gave it five stars, but another might say 3-4 because of the lack of updates, or amenities (or people). The ONLY negative I have to say is: The county decided to cut back the trees from the main road which happened to be down the cliff from our parking area. They had this machine that literally shredded the poor trees and sent wood chunks, huge fragments upwards of 3"x8", hurtling right at us and our RV. Our RV got hit several times but thankfully none of the people or windows did. No apparent damage. So no lawsuit. :-) Don't let that keep you away. I'm pretty sure they only do that a couple of times or less during the year. Come to this park. It is beautiful. It is underutilized. It is quiet. The overnight camping RV ($20) and tent ($16) rates are pretty cheap, the ranger is friendly and easy-going. Whether you are a local looking for a family reunion spot, Sunday church picnic, family tent camping or a day out in a pretty park, COME. Or an out of state visitor for one night or 4, COME.

We stopped at the park office and bought some cold sodas and candy. The prices were reasonable and the park ranger was helpful. The scenery is great and the park history is interesting dating back to FDR's New Deal of the 1930's. Tip: be prepared (drinks, snacks, towels, fishing poles, bait, and whatever else you need for your little adventure- a first aid kit is not a bad idea either). I wish I had spent more time here exploring, so stop at the park office first for interesting maps and literature.

We were afraid that it would be too crowded, but there were still several spots with sufficient privacy. There are scores of campgrounds (some of them right on the waterfront), lots of RV hook-ups, a playground for kids, and boating and swimming access to the lake. Although hiking is somewhat limited (there are just a few miles of trails), the scenery is beautiful, and the sunset on the water was idyllic. Very convenient as a getaway if you live in the Tulsa area; I'm sure we'll camp here again!

Had a one night reservation (thank goodness) and found this OKlahoma State Park to be absolutely…read moreterrible. The Dogwood section was not at all maintained. High grass and trash on ground near the large blue dumpsters placed around the campsites. Our site's power pedestal (30A) was in terrible and unsafe condition. The plugs were loose and poorly maintained. Very old electricity equipment that could become a safety hazard for unsuspecting rv campers. Our site was not cleaned for our arrival. The fire ring had trash and burned logs. The FHU plugs were simply concrete with a chain. Not a plumbing fixture cap and very unsanitary. Public restrooms and showers onsite were unclean with mold everywhere. Bugs and spider webs throughout the shower area. Bad experience. Not OK, Oklahoma!!!

Went for a hike on what was described as a nature trail. The majority of the trail is a grass…read moremowed path underneath the utility poles. A few spots of trees area with mowed grass path. Not at all what we would call a true nature path. Lots of sun and saw two snakes on the path from the high grass on both sides. We won't visit again, Oklahoma, you can do so much better!!!

Quick look rating: 5/5 Quality, 5/5 Service, 5/5 Experience…read more For my 100th review of 2015, I thought it would be best to write about a great little trout fly fishing spot that's not to far from Dallas, TX. **To note: This review is written about the creek before the floods in early spring of 2015. In the spring of 2015 we had major rains and flooding in the area. The engineers for the dam had to release a large amount of water from the spillway. Downstream was a major washout. Spillway Creek is below the spillway dam at Broken Bow Lake. It is just a little over 3 hours drive time from Dallas or 20 to 25 minutes from Broken Bow, Oklahoma. The water released from this dam comes from about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way down from the top of the water. This keeps the water released cold, cold enough for trout to live for the first couple of miles to about twelve miles worth of stream before it gets to hot for trout. The spillway is stocked with trout nearly every two weeks with at least two trucks of stock trout. The Spillway Creek is on the Ouachita National Forrest and Beavers Bend State Park, and I noticed that they are doing a great job of keeping this park and wildlife area, very well maintained! Help keep this park clean, what you pack/carry in, well then carry out, thank you in advance! At the time of spring there was two nice fly fishing shops in the area, while the Dallas has some really nice fly shops to help you out as well! Some of the Fly shops in Dallas have some guides that will take you up there as well! My thoughts / suggestions: 9ft rod - 4 or 5 weight rod, 9ft leader with a 5x tippet, take 5,6, and 7x tippet spools. Flies: RS2, maybe some tiny midge nymphs. Carry a wading staff! The water can be stiff in some areas! **To note: Check with the local fly shops for what kind of fly's to use and what types of tippet and leaders are being used at that time. **Emergency Note: Always listen for any sirens in the valley / creek area. When they release water from the dam, the engineers will blow that horn/whistle. If you hear it, head to high ground IMMEDIATELY! Please keep in mind where your fellow fly fishing buddies are located! For the most part there is phone reception in the area, but double check. It is pretty good idea to go to text mode when fly fishing and keep it on vibration/silent mode. Be safe, and let others know where you are located! I'll be back!
