yet again 5 stars ..... in love with NZ lakes . Blueeeeeeee..... yes plz.... this lake is really really blue .... so blue that it makes you wonder if there is color mixed in it . this lake is largest of 3 parallel lakes in Mackenzie Basin on New Zealand's South Island. The others are Lakes Tekapo and Ohau. the road from pukaki to tekapo is beautiful with souther alps running on one side .... the best view point acc to me is the visitor center , perfect to spot all reflections n capture beauty with360 degree views.

In A Nutshell: -The South Island of New Zealand, has some of the most beautiful lakes in the world and Lake Pukaki is just one of many. -You will drive by this lake if you drive on Highway 8. -There is a pretty big parking lot where you can park and walk down the rocks to the clear water. -It's breathtaking to see. Overall, I was very glad to see no boats in the water - as a matter of fact I don't recall seeing boats in any big body of fresh water on the South Island, maybe that's the secret to keeping them so clean and clear. read more
Lake Pukaki is one of the beautiful lakes in the middle of New Zealand's South Island. This one has beautiful blue water and it backs up to Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain. It's really a beautiful lake. If you're short on time, pull over on the side of the road and take in the view of the lake. If you have more time, drive up to the village of Mount Cook. The drive will take you the entire length of the lake, plus you'll see the national park, a lavender farm and if you're there in December, you might see some lupines. Either way, if you're in the area, you have to stop and check out this lake. read more
When you drive around in NZ, you will be very frustrated, because you will get so tired of getting in & out of your car, and angry for not stopping more, or upset that you missed a great photo opportunity. Well, Lake Pukaki is one of the places that you will not regret stopping and definitely do not want to miss. Don't have to stop for long, just enjoy the scenery here for 10-30 minutes is precious. At the rest toilet stop at Lake Pukaki, be sure to go to the Mt Cook Alpine Salmon store just next to the toilet. Their salmons are pricy, especially compared to their competitors at Twizel, but it will be the best ever and freshes salmon you have ever tasted. This salmon will convert non sashimi eaters, as it did for my wife and even my then 3yo daughter! She is so hooked on salmon now! I will not eat any other salmon farm's salmon except for this one, because in terms of quality, it is ridiculously fresh that it simply melts in your mouth! Trust me and open your wallet here! read more

Located in Aoraki National Park, Lake Pukaki is a gorgeous body of water that runs long and compliments Mount Cook. It is inevitable to stop driving and take pictures. The Water is so cool and u touched that you'd want to jump in, but be careful of the depth and temperature, I haven't seen anybody swimming in it. Pukaki is a huge lake with its beautiful blues. Oh, It won't make you sad, rather It'll put a smile on your face. The land around is so vast that you forget about the city life, where miles and miles you drive you're reminded that you're just in love with New Zealand. You can go on Instagram and hashtag #aoraki or #lakepukaki and you're already there. If you've never been, then you wouldn't know what I'm talking about. If you have, then you've been blessed to witness one of the many beautiful things. If it is your dream to travel. read more

Beautiful views, worth stopping along the road to Mt. Cook. Each day can be different in the colors of the water and on a sunny day the turquoise color is amazing! read more
