My son and I came down here for a day trip. They are only open Thursday through Monday 9 to 4.
This ghost town was purchased by the bureau of Land Management.
It was a silver mining town back in the heyday. The BLM has fixed at the schoolhouse, and the church. Some of these buildings are too far gone. There is a donation box in front of the school house to help with the restoration of what they can. There is little trails leading to areas you can go and information signs to tell you about that area. In 2009 the railroad building blew down due to the 90 mile an hour winds.
The caretaker who lives on site his name is Dan. He is a very informative guy. My 17 year old son really enjoyed our trip. Being that the name is lake Valley my son was expecting there to be a lake there. There is no water around. After you're done having fun in lake Valley drive over to hatch New Mexico that is only 30 minutes away. Make sure you stop at sparky's in hatch and get their number one green chile cheeseburger. read more
