This one is located in the Park View Shopping Centre in Whitley Bay but there are also large stores in North Shields and Cramlington etc. Not surprising this is a popular shop the name says it all Home BARGAINS!!! It is the best shop ever for everyday bargains, they charge a fraction of the prices most supermarkets charge I always get my teabags there! It has its regular stock of items (like the teabags and several of the other food items and toiletries) but it also gets different brands of toys, gadgets, gifts, food, toiletries etc so it is always worth checking regularly to see what new stock they get. Now is the perfect time of year to load up on the stocking fillers!!

These can be very pretty, especially the crockery, however the ornaments retain a mass produced feel. Shop assistants tend to be friendly, although any issues after purchasing a product has to be dealt with with their phone customer support team.

It is easily accessed from either the Sainsbury's carpark or the central carpark outside of the Subway shop. The store has a large staircase outside of it but it can be accessed if you have a wheelchair or pushchair via a ramp that leads alongside the florist shop at the central entrance doors of the mall. The store has two windows which are always set up in an attractive display showing what products they sell. In actual fact it would be quicker to say what they DON'T sell! From gardening equipment, tools, pain, household furnishings, cards, clothes, pet accessories, cleaning products, vitamins, books, underwear, fabrics, toys, stationary, sweets, ornaments and everything else for the home - this is my first port of call when I'm looking for a specifc item at the cheapest price. The store is huge and the aisles are qite narrow. Paint, tools and garden stuff is on the left. Clothes are on the right. Staionary and clothing accessories are in the central aisles. Fabrics are at the back of the store. You can actually buy ready made curtains etc or buy your own length of fabric from rolls. Everything else the sell is located in the far right hand side of the store. It is usually quite messy inside as buyers tend to rummage through the stock and leave it on the floor. Staff are always to be found around the shop to help you. There are often high wall displays where you will need to ask a staff member to retrieve an item. There are usually queues at the tills (there are about 3 or 4 tills). The staff are very nice and friendly though.

This Ikea is one of the larger ones around. Situated right next next the Metrocentre, it is a great…read morelocation but this also means it can be crazy busy. If you've ever been to the Metrocentre you know that the traffic is hellish on weekends, so I recommend staying away then. Although it's very large it has a weird layout and feels rather cramped and squished together. Especially in the low-ceilinged warehouse which has laughably short shelves. There is a restaurant half way through the shop as per usual selling the favourites like meatballs and lingonberries but it's very dingy with no natural lighting. Some other Ikeas have windows in them but this one does not. I don't get why they added a "mezzanine" for the market hall. Could they have not just built more shop and put it there? It makes the warehouse more cramped and it's more effort using the lifts or travellators to go up and down. It is pretty good though. Every time I've been in it's never been as chaotic and stressful as the Edinburgh store and the stock here tends to be better than in other Ikeas. So although I've badmouthed Ikea Gateshead quite a bit it's still got its good points.

For anyone who has never visited, Dunelm Mill is a large shops which sells all sort of marvellous homeware, bed linen, furniture, kitchenware - basically anything you could possibly need for your home! As well as things you don't need but buy anyway just because they are pretty ;) In general the prices are reasonable even when there is not a sale on. The quality of the items which I have purchased has always been excellent, and on the rare occassion that I have had a problem, the staff have handled it well and issued a refund or replacement. Dunelm Mill often have some very good promotions on their bedding, which incidentally is the thing that I tend to shop there for most. They cater for all tastes - whether your home is contemporary or vintage inspired there's bound to be something that you need (or more often just want in my case!). Recently they have also started to sell online. Their web site is http://www.dunelm-mill.com . They do charge for delivery, though it is fairly reasonable at £3.95 for standard delivery or £5.95 for the next day service. They do have quite a lot of their products online; however, it is best to visit instore as they have more variety, and also the best end-of-line bargains tend not to appear on the website. Overall, Dunelm Mill is miles ahead of the more expensive homeware shops - great value, as well as offering durable and desirable homeware!
