Basically this place is super cool, situated in lovely woods just through from Cheadle Hulme with an entrance very close to Life Leisure swimming pools - a perfect place to spend a lovely summer day - maybe with friends, maybe with family, maybe with a special someone - or maybe all together at the same time. There's a carpark which was £1 for 2 hours and from here you can walk up to their gardens and park area which are rather secluded but still have plenty of opportunity to sunbathe - in fact there were loads of groups of people when we visited enjoying picnics, ball games and good times - very very chilled atmosphere! There's also a full free BMX track if that floats your boat, a kiddie play ground and a cafe and ice cream huts. Overall a lovely place to spend a nice day - now it's time to zoom off and look at those weather forecasts!

Having never visited before we weren't quite sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. There's ample parking at the main site plus a couple of other car parks nearby which are connected to the main site via walking routes. The main site also has a large cafe with plenty of outside seating, a visitor information centre and large, clean toilet facilities. When we went there were also a couple of ice cream stalls set up which had some really nice flavours on offer. There are multiple walking routes you can do here, and part of what we loved is that many of them are circular, meaning you can get your steps in and then be back at your car (or the loo!). We walked from a remote car park to the main site, then did climbed up Old Pale. It's a bit more exposed up there, but well worth it because at the top you can view seven counties all at the same time - there are large stones indicating which county is in which direction, but also brass plaques on the floor which indicate specific landmarks. The view really is impressive - you can see Jodrell Bank in one direction and Liverpool's cathedrals in the other. We then did another walk through the forest before returning to the car. There's a short walk for children featuring a Grufallo trail but we opted for a much longer one which was nice and quiet. Some of the trails could have been marked a little bit more clearly but with a map in hand we managed quite easily.

Trudging through Delamere Forest though, the idea tends to seem less ludicrous. I'm not saying the place is a tip or anything, rather I'm hinting at the overgrown primeval mass of trunk and branch that constitutes the forest. For starters, it's huge, the largest in Cheshire. It's not difficult to imagine a bear lumbering out of the greenery towards you, or the Nazgul. A glacier scraping its way through the area during the ice age left enough room for wetlands to bubble up out of the ground and gurgle. Blakemere Moss is such a lake in the forest, about a kilometre across and reputedly drained by Napoleonic prisoners. Although it was only refilled in 1998, it feels eerily prehistoric. Every time a duck flies over your head you end up flinching in case it's a pterodactyl. They still exist, right? In short, this is a fantastic place to stumble around if you're not in the mood for civilisation. Provided your dog doesn't get stolen like mine once did here you'll be fine. Don't worry though, they gave him back. What rubbish crims.

And at Dunham Massey there's nowhere quite like it to spot deer, squirrels and pheasants amongst some of the finest woodland the UK has to offer. As is standard at NT sites, it's £5 to park and around £10 entrance to the house, plus there's an excellent restaurant onsite serving homemade food between 12 and 2.30pm (we had the pork and vegetable casserole and mushroom pie and both were of excellent quality, out of a choice of around 6 dishes), with snacks such as teacakes and scones served with tea and coffee in the morning and afternoon. Lunch came to £22 with a couple of soft drinks. As is usual with National Trust sites, it's an extremely popular day out for older people, parents with pushchairs and young couples enjoying a romantic day out - saying that, there is plenty of room in the park to find your own piece of paradise so don't worry about it being too claustrophobic!

Its a lovely little spot for a park lunch, and a very brief stroll as the gardens are pretty small. You'll often be the only person there, which makes it perfect for a romantic picnic or suchlike rubbish that I never partake in. Also, you can visit the Fletcher Moss Park in the same swoop, and there are plenty of pubs nearby to stop for a beautiful beer, in which I do often partake. Also, go on the weekends during cricket season and you can sit around the cricket pitch at Didsbury Cricket Club and watch the game. You can almost make a day of this little leafy/puby area.

You get the feeling your Satnav is taking you to the wrong place. Don't worry it's not. An old reservoir was transformed into a huge lake a while back and that's the park's main feature. A mile radius around the lake acts as a perfect biking/ hiking trail which isn't too strenuous and is littered with relaxing spots with great views. There's an icecream van to cater for all your refreshment needs and does a lot of business on a hot summer's afternoon. It's a perfect venue to have a picnic and for young families (There's a large play area for kids) All in all a lovely green space in a heavily populated urban area. My only beef with the place was the unsafe nature of the car park. Make sure you park in an area that's camera visible. I returned after a pleasent afternoon to find my windscreen cracked quite badly. I hadn't parked under a tree, falling debree was thus out the question so I suspected some sort of foul play. My little trip therefore cost me nearly £150. Perhaps the place is cursed for me, but don't let that put you off.

Sadly, the water park bears absolutely no resemblance to Stoke-on-Trent's Water World or Florida's Blizzard Beach. Instead it is a large man-made lake with a path around the edge which attracts walkers, joggers and cyclists. The path is well-surfaced and links on to the Mersey Valley trail, which is unsurfaced. However, there is a car park and visitor centre if you don't fancy the trek down from Chorlton or Didsbury. The water park was formed in the 1970s when gravel was dug up from this area to build the M60, and the area was flooded to form the lake. Despite the fact that the water park is surrounded by the M60, the busy Princess Parkway and Chorlton town centre it is a surprisingly peaceful and serene place - so peaceful that it is the place that the hippies flock to for the summer solstice.

There's a cafe', formal gardens, open spaces, band stand, crazy golf, pitch and put. A great place to walk in Autumn and Winter. They did have a regular farmers market but there seems to be an hiccup at present. There's also a kids zoo.
