Went by yday for a fun thing to do with the kiddos. Man checked us in quickly and got us set up on two lanes. It's def dated inside, but everything works and the man that helped us was very nice and even turned up the music when we asked. It does smell like cigarettes when you're walking thru. The kids complained but once you're at the lane it's much more mild (we were at lanes 1&2) it's a great price for a quick fun activity. We'll be back. I love this bar and Alley! The food is awesome compared to other like mind places and don't charge an arm and a leg! In fact $1.00.wings on Wednesday and Thursday! The best HUGE bacon ranch chicken wrap and build your own pizzas! The bartenders are well versed, professional, and super funny! Great for a family. If smoking bothers you, get over that part. My husband and Mother in law wanted to go bowling and the Lakes Lane were the only one offering a great package to accommodate our family on this day. They were practicing social distancing and there were only 2 families there when we arrived. The pool table and dart area had a very nice setup when you come through the door. My nieces and nephews really enjoyed themselves bowling but mainly I think they were just there for the food lol... some of the lanes were closed off and not being used due to COVID but it was still fun just to be out for a little. read more

What decade did I just walk in to? I entered the front door to see broken tiles and a roach trap in the corner. I opened the second door and was taken back to the early 80s when my parents would take me as a youngin to dingy bowling alleys. The Pal Mal smoke and grease from the "restaurant" has permeated everywhere and it's not pleasant. A bunch of biker bros were smoking and drinking at the bar and not a single person was on the lanes. Absolutely disgusting! The entrance doors were dirty and full of finger prints. The inside reeked of cigarette's smoke at 11am, The walls were filthy , run down torn carpet. The bar area that it looks like the locals come to smoke like chimneys, there is not vent to suck the smoke out. We enjoyed bowling since we were the only ones there. Well after reading some of the bad reviews on this establishment, was I shocked when our family showed up there last night celebrating two birthday parties. Yes, I did read all the great reviews, but had to scan some of the one star reviews. One was, "The place is a shit whole" another was, "Located in the back of the mall where it belongs and smells like cigarettes." Let me tell you, NONE of that is true. We walked in and NO cigarette smell, the employees were EXTREMELY friendly, bathrooms were clean, food was good and EVERYONE on all the bowling lanes were having a great time, lots fun and laughs, including all of us. No, I don't work there and am not a part owner, just had to tell anyone interested in coming here and may still have their hand on the brake, let go and have a ball. read more

You first walk in and you get smacked in the face with cigarette smoke, not a huge deal if you don't mind smelling cigarette smoke the whole time you bowl. The place is pretty hidden but not hard to find. It's definitely had an old school look and feel to it but the people are very nice and not judgey by outsiders we are visiting from our of state and they were very welcoming we came in. It was very busy when we went but Saturdays usually are. It's cheap and fun for everyone to enjoy! Okay well first of all, upon our arrival, the place was located in the corner and it seemed very dark, which was already sketchy to me. There were a few people outside smoking which was another bad sign, once we went it, it was dimly lit with a bunch of scattered pool tables and skee ball games. When we went down the hall where real bowling alley was there was no one nearby to help us out, it seemed nearly abandoned. At the bar nearby There were dozens of people smoking INSIDE, my asthmatic husband and 13 year old daughter had to leave immediately. I have been going to Lakes Lanes since they opened. I use to play dart league out of there. I have been bowling in leagues for 3 years now. They have changed a bunch on the inside. The food is great. If you're a bowling smoker, this place is paradise. But for those of us who aren't, upon walking in the entrance you're assaulted by the stench of stale cigarette smoke. Walk past the billiard table and directly across from half the lanes you encounter the bar where patrons were drinking and puffing tough at 10:30am on a weekday. An open partition is the only thing separating the bar area from the lanes so there is no way to contain smoke. Despite several ceiling fans going at full speed, several of us found our eyes and throats irritated by the cigarette smoke. I'm guessing this place is still in business because it caters to smokers but if you're sensitive to cigarette smoke or don't want your kids exposed, I'd recommend a different bowling alley. read more

We went here on a Sunday evening and it was D-E-A-D. It felt like they were open just for us!! We had a great time. The staff was great. This is tucked away in a strip mall and we were shocked it was a freakin' bowling alley! I am in awe of this place and hope it stays open. There was a crowd that came in an hour later. This place is truly a hole in the wall and honestly my husband and I didn't know it was here, until we were lucky enough to stumble on it. While Lakes Lanes might be old, it has so much character. The whole place is out of the 80s - brightly colored floor tiles, worn carpets and seats, but perfect lanes. Oiled amazingly and always in excellent condition. They take pride in the craft! Be warned; smoking is allowed here but with leagues being the brunt of their business and league bowlers being older gentleman, how can you knock them for this? We're in our 20s and this would never deter us! The owners are father and son and are always on the floor, taking care of their patrons. We have never been disappointed and even when we had minor issues with equipment, they jumped right in to fix them! Support small business in The Colony! The is the second business I have patronized where I have walked through the front door to be greeted by stale cigarette smoke here in The Colony. As a non smoker with children with special needs we do not find comfort in places like this. This establishment was fine for bowling but the counter guy that sat at the bar the whole time watching the game and smoking was a real turn off and to think I was in to find out about leagues my kids could join but not with the whole smoking thing. My children or myself should not have to be exposed to second hand smoke, it is a health danger and I wish Denton County would address this problem as long as there is a Bar in a all ages, public setting it should be non smoking!!!!!!! read more

This place is hidden and it's probably for the best, the rental shoes are literally breaking in half (dangerous). They don't play any music over the speakers unless you buy a song for a dollar from the jukebox that doesn't even have any sort of que so you literally need to buy one song at a time. Sooooo we went in and were hit in the face by smoke. Fine there used to be smoking Dallas I have friends that smoke whatever. Then we get to front desk where there's a guy in his late twenties who has obviously never worked in customer service and has the driest personality on earth. We pay for everything almost 30 bucks mind you for a single game with shoes and socks then the fun starts. I'm pregnant but have bowled on and off for years. We find balls that really don't meet either of our needs, each bowl once and realize that this is not gonna work. Unless you have dainty fingers you get a 12 Plus pound ball. We walked to the front to ask if there were any other options, the guy just kinda blankly stood there like a deer in headlights and muttered no. Ok cool. Terrible service. Dirty. Smoky. Not to mention almost uncomfortably quiet WHO DOESNT PLAY MUSIC IN A BOWLING ALLEY?!?! Pass on the place 1000 times. I was thinking it'd be like an amc type experience. Should have read the reviews before dropping money at this place. Live and learn and bowl somewhere else. Anywhere seriously. read more
