Spicy Shoyu Ramen at Lamen Kazu in Liberdade, São Paolo Brazil.

Spicy Shoyu Ramen at Lamen Kazu in Liberdade, São Paolo Brazil. Toppings: Ajitama, negi, spicy tofu minced pork, Beni Shoga, kimchi, bean sprouts, and spicy minced pork. This was arguably one of the best bowls of ramen I've ever had. If you are In São Paolo Brazil, I highly recommend this ramen-ya.

I ate here for lunch and was relatively surprised by the taste and quality of the ramen. Noodles had nice texture and the broth was delicate and not overpowering. It isn't necessarily on cheap on the wallet but if you are craving some Japanese soup noodles I recommend this place.

A pleasant surprise in Sao Paulo. I heard that Sao Paulo is known for international food but was shocked to find a Ramen spot. I had a basic Miso Ramen bowl i got with 4 pieces of meat which made it hearty. Oddly had to order an egg which closer to hard boiled to soft boiled. I got the Rose shots - damn i wish i caught the liquor name it was unforgettable. Total was 127 reis which is very fair for a US tourist.

Very expensive ramen. I ordered misso ramen that came salty, greasy and without egg and the large guyoza came small and frozen taste. I don't want to come back. Pedi misso lamen e guioda grande. Misso estava salgado, oleoso e nem tinha ovo. Guioza parecia aqueles congelados de pacote. Horrivel. Muito caro. Pessima experiencia.

    The lamen!

One of the best ramen restaurant in São Paulo. The only problem is that the place is always full. Good luck finding a place to seat.

Upon walking in, the establishment is bright and smartly decorated. Behind the bar, you can see the ramen chefs working their magic into each bowl. The ramen itself is decently priced (definitely cheaper than the US!), though I was a little disappointed that their tonkotsu ramen wasn't really made from tonkotsu broth, but rather, it was salt or soy based. That being said, it was more than enough to satisfy my ramen craving.

Note the "oh, this is gonna be good" vibe when you enter for the first time. It's been a family-run Liberdade staple for many years and is usually packed with locals at most times of the day. At lunch there may be a wait, however the Maitre-D flips tables fast. Aska serves up big bowls of delicious Ramen and Beef/vegetarian gyozi. Food comes fast, and udon noodle refills are often necessary. Chimchi, cold pickled vegetable salad is also tasty. Goes along well with an agua com gas or Guarana Antarctica. Prices are reasonable for what you get. "Ressaca? Que ressaca??" - Brazilian you

There were certainly plenty of Japanese speaking customers mixed in with Portuguese. And I, the odd tourist, felt right at home. The bamboo shoot and shitake mushroom appetizers were delectable. The chicken broth ramen was insipid. The Gyukatsu Kare (breaded fried beef with curry sauce over rice) was better, but not the ultra crispy panko planks I've had in some places. Maybe it was because I ordered it at the end of the night. The Brazilian brewed cold sake was really good. Could hardly tell the difference from Japanese sake. But, the highlight of the dinner of Sanma Shio--grilled pike mackerel with sea salt. Inexpensive for Sanma, uber fresh, grilled crispy so that you could crunch up the head and tail! The service was prompt, efficient and very warm. Even the owner came by to chat several times. Arigato gozaimasu! Obrigado! Thank you.

Something to keep in mind if you're considering going here and you're a visitor. Other than that, the food is pretty standard izakaya fare- not that much of a Brazilian influence from what we could tell. And we're very familiar with the genre (tons of these in the NYC) so we knew what to expect. The food is pretty tasty and the service was pretty good. The restaurant kinda feels like you walked into someone's kitchen which is pretty interesting. But overall we've actually had much better Japanese food. So there's that. But not a bad option if you're looking for something completely different in São Paulo.

My brother had the wanton ramen and his lady had hers with taiwanese sausage. I ordered shio ramen with pork belly and wheat noodles (you can get harussame or ho fun instead) and braised pork belly as a topping. We ordered fried squid and gyoza for the table. The gyoza dough was a little thicker than that of the other Taiwanese restaurants nearby, the filling rich in Chinese leeks and umami served unremarkable sweet and sour sauce on the side. The squid was crunchy and light without being too chewy. Unlike most restaurants in this area, the hot tea was not complimentary and they didn't have any green tea so we went with a cup of oolong each. There's something about the pepper in Taiwanese and Chinese restaurants. It's usually very strong although it doesn't overpower the flavors of the food. We sat upstairs as the few table downstairs were full. Pity the table next to us was very loud, with one guy practicing his monologue about whatever. Other than having a douche ranting for a soundtrack, our experience was pretty enjoyable.

Though if the pork bun is enough to go by then I have high hopes. The pork bun is a meal by itself so you probably won't be needing another plate. The pork is juicy and tender and the bread is soft, however sadly not as pure as other pork buns I've tried. Albeit at 14 reais it's a great bargain for a quick dinner.
