I was invited to try out the new menu additions at Lamezia. Maria recently took over the restaurant from her parents and has made some changes to update the offerings. The restaurant itself is a cosy family business with cute decorations and a distinctly Italian flair. The menu is, of course, heavy in pasta and pizza options. I tried the burrata starter, which was absolutely perfect, as well as the two new pizza crusts, turmeric and wheat & hemp. The turmeric crust is lightly yellow and has a very mild turmeric flavour, it went really well with the truffle and cheese toppings. The hemp crust has a more earthy taste and looks slightly greenish. It's definitely a more savoury crust, and combined with the toppings of the Fiorentina I ordered, it was absolutely delicious. Both crusts were perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, traditional thin Italian pizza at its best! I'd definitely recommend the hemp crust, it was very enjoyable and a little different to the usual fare. I also got to try a few bites of the filled gnocchi, and these were spectacular! Be aware that filled pasta dishes are usually a little smaller than other dishes, so it's not a huge portion, but the gnocchi were so delicious and melt-in-your-mouth soft! Everyone at the table absolutely loved these. Service was also very friendly and professional, the only thing that I wasn't impressed with was how long it took to cook the food. Our starters arrived quickly, but pizza and pasta took over half an hour after we were done with the starters, which indicates to me that the order wasn't processed until after our starters were done. This huge gap between starters and mains was a little annoying, but other than that it was a perfect evening!

Lamezia is a family owned restaurant that has been running for 10 years. For their 10 year anniversary, they are touting new pizza bases! The notable ones are wheat & hemp and turmeric, and note that their style of base is Roman as opposed to Neapolitan. A bunch of us were invited down to try them and we were really keen to try this shortlisted restaurant for the British Restaurant Awards. For starters, we ordered their Burrata and Nduja Brushchetta. If you can take spicy food, I would definitely recommend the Nduja. For the pizzas, we went with Fiorentina on the wheat & hemp base and the Tartufona on the turmeric base. It was pure bliss on the first bite on the tartufona and the turmeric base is not overpowering. The fiorentina also worked well with the wheat & hemp base because it tasted earthy. We also ordered Gnocchi Spinaci e Ricotta and Ravioli Aragosta & Granchio, and I would highly recommend the Gnochhi. All dishes were shared amongst the group and the dishes really seemed like they were made with love. I would highly recommend the food at this place.

There are some great places to eat Italian food in Stroud Green. The Italian Farmers does amazing…read moresandwiches and great meats; Pizza Pappagone is constantly packed with a big crowd; La Porchetta is a staple for my birthday parties for the last 10 years; Fabrizio does the best pizza in London - please go there! I don't want it to close; but Il Piccolo Diavolo is so much more than all of those together. An intimate, unpretentious atmosphere in this family-run place makes it perfect for couples or small groups. It's never too busy - you may need to wait a few minutes on a Friday night but you should get seated. The owners are extremely friendly and I love capping the meal off with a Limoncello. But the food? Get the burrata if they have it on special. Get the mozzarella, antipasta platter or Arancini if not. For the main, look at the menu standards but get them to explain the specials. You won't understand it all but trust me it'll be great. If you can persuade one of your table to get a pizza do it. It won't be as good as Fabrizio's but that's more of a take away thing. Order 500ml of the house wine per couple. Top up with more or beers as you see fit. If you're still full get the panne cotta. This is pasta as it should be. With rich sauces. Lovely service. I just love, love, love this place. I was compelled to write this review when I saw nobody else had bothered to. The next time I go, which will be soon, I will get some photos to add to the review.
