    Lauby Plumbing, Heating & Air

I called Lauby to come out and fix my AC. I had an R22 unit. They came and used a NU22B gas in my…read moreunit. The AC ran and cooled for about 6 hours and then the compressor burned up. Lauby took no responsibility for the unit burning up. Said maybe contaminants from the system being open for an extended period. That sounded like it should not run at all. After a google search, there are multiple incidents of this kind of failure. The way they make the replacement work is to clear the system of the old oil that is not as compatible with the new gas. The old oil prevents oil return lubrication of the compressor and causes them to burn up. I paid Lauby AFTER the unit failed, but found this information out later. Shame on me. But I would like folks to know they do NOT take responsibility for their role in ruining my system, did not offer any kind of discount on a new system which they priced at their "regular price". I went to another AC place near Taco John's in Beatrice. Got the same efficiency system with 10 year parts warranty installed for $2k less than Lauby quoted. And they did it just a few days after I called them. The BIG reason I am leaving this review is that after speaking with Mr Lauby about this whole incident, I did not get the feeling that they would change their procedures to prevent this from happening to the next person. Mr. Lauby said he trusted the NU22B retrofit manual which he sent to me. That manual recommends technicians stay with the unit after it is running and monitor compressor temperature. Gosh I wish they would have. Would have saved my unit. Instead they left when they got the unit blowing cold air. So that is great to trust the manual, which looked correct, but you need to carefully follow it. Also, the manual calls out a special polyol oil that should be used on some systems, not much detail about mineral oil solubility with their gas, but google search reveals a lot about that. So If you have an R22 system that needs work, steer clear of Lauby. The other place we contacted is super helpful and said they service R22 systems with R22 they have on hand. Anyway, good luck with your AC systems, and I hope this post helps you all.
