Lana is one of my favorite spots. Some food highlights are the burger, chopped salad, tuna tartare, corn soup and the pork chops. The pork chops were cooked perfectly and honestly some of the best I've ever had. Their wine selection is outstanding and pairs beautifully with the menu. But the real surprise for me was the cream of corn soup. It was rich, flavorful, and completely unforgettable. Truly a hit and miss for me . 2 of 3 food items were good. Best item being the persimmon bruschetta . That was indeed delicious. It was a perfect balance of texture and flavor . The mushrooms and green onion pizza was a solid pick. A great balance as well. The other item Prawns Egg roll was salty and under whelming. The drink Brujo Sangre was way too sweet especially it being a mezcal drink. The drinks took a long time . We got the apps before the drinks . I ordered a beer and it did not arrive till after the full meal was over . Waters were filled only once in a 1hr period. It was extremely loud in the place as well. A cute new place with some growing pains with service. We started with the heirloom tomato salad and the Mission fig bruschetta which were tasty albeit tiny (my dad commented that there wasn't quite half a full tomato on the plate for the former dish). The hamachi crudo with its ponzu/yuzu sauce was a particular hit, perfectly seasoned although the salad it came with was a bit bland, not well dressed. We then had the veal meatballs and mushroom tagliatelle, both of which were incredibly flavorful and our favorites of the night. The pasta was al dente and with a ton of umami and just the right amount of sauce. The Baja Seabass was our least favorite - lacking texture and seasoning. We ended with the Basque cheesecake which was reasonable. Sadly, what missed the mark for us was the service. When we were seated, despite being a group of 5, were taken to a 4 top space and the hostess was flustered when we asked if they were planning on bringing an extra chair or if we were supposed to move the 2 top near by over. After being seated, we were given water which was spilled all over the table although the waitress did not notice and gave us a weird look when we cleaned it up with the table napkin and asked for another napkin. Additionally, no server came by for 20 minutes despite being seated at opening time and we had to flag someone down to ask who our server was. She said she did not know but was willing to do us a favor by taking down our drink order and find out who our server was (which never actually got answered). My friend & I came here to celebrate her birthday & wow, we had such a great time! Service was friendly & attentive. Food & cocktails came out quick. & Happy Hour was a steal, Wednesday-Friday 4p-9p! The restaurant is beautiful, bright with coastal, upscale vibes. They have a gorgeous, shaded outdoor area too. Confit Pork Belly: Small flake pastry with a small piece of pork belly. Bland, I would pass. Spicy Tuna Tartar: A must order! So darn good. Yellowtail Sashimi: Omg, so fresh & we loved the savory, slightly salty sauce it was marinated in. READ before you reserve, I never write review but this I just really was just too much, hopefully they may read it and take it as a learning lesson but I wouldn't know because I don't recommend this place, and will never go back. First off let me start by saying this was our first date night in over two years after having two kids under two. Our waitress was so sweet,, knowledgeable about the menu and drinks . HOWEVER the food and management was a different story. There was a HUGE fur ball of some sort in my food which I noticed as I was taking a bite at the same time the manager had walked passed and saw it too he stopped and with his bare hands took it off my plate, which is a huge no no, in hospitality you take the whole plate not use your hands. He questioned what it was and offered to make a new one. I said no thank you, I didn't feel to hungry after this. My husband gave me the rest of his dish. As we were splitting anyways. The check came and we were charged for the dish. This too me isn't the problem but still is. We shouldn't of had to pay for it but the fact the manager never came over again to apologizes or make it right in anyways to me just shows the lack of courtesy the management has or understanding of costumer relations. Do something. As we also learned the owner was there and didn't come over either. The owner did call us but that also felt a little too late and led with " I dk how it got there" neither do we but again not the point, the fact you have a costumer pay and do nothing or even another apology from management or come back for a cocktail or something on you, just shows me. It comes from the top down. I share this hopefully for a learning lesson so if and when it happens again because it will the costumer may want to return because they were met with respect and kindness With all that said the food was maybe 4/10 pizza was burnt to a crisp with the fur ball and the burger was overcooked and fries you could tell where not made in read more

My third time dining at Lana. My first two visits were lovely -- great food, attentive service, and a really enjoyable atmosphere. That's actually why I chose it for my birthday dinner and recommended it to my group. Unfortunately, this most recent experience felt very different from prior visits and ended up being disappointing. Service felt unusually disjointed throughout the evening. Drinks arrived one at a time over an extended period, and all food -- including appetizers -- came out together at once rather than paced as expected. There were also several moments that felt awkward from a service perspective. On multiple occasions, our server would stand near the table for an extended period without saying anything, which made it unclear whether she was checking in, waiting to take an order, or needed something from us. We often found ourselves having to initiate the interaction. The food was also noticeably different from what I remembered. I'm not sure if something has changed, but dishes that had impressed me on previous visits felt fairly underwhelming this time around. I had spoken highly of Lana to my guests based on past experiences, so it was disappointing when the meal didn't live up to expectations. The restaurant also wasn't particularly busy, which made the difficulty in flagging down service more surprising. I'm leaving this review because my first two experiences were genuinely great, and I know Lana is capable of much better. The food was delicious, our table ordered the Sea Bass, New York Steak and a couple sides of the Gnocchi. The Lana Chopped Salad was definitely my favorite dish of the night. We've been to this amazing restaurant once a week for the past 7 weeks. What keeps us coming back are the fresh ingredients in the chef-created magical dishes, the cool vibe, ambiance, and the awesome service provided by Mark, Travis and their fantastic team (Emily, Amanda, Violet and Dillon to name a few). The combination of flavors are unexpectedly delicious. We have enjoyed every single dish, but our absolute favorite brunch dishes are the breakfast sandwich, huevos rancheros, and pork belly fried rice. I even added poached eggs to the mushroom pizza for a brunchy spin. Our top dinner items are the Sea Bass and Roasted chicken. I can't even find words to justify the flavor explosion and textural experience. You just gotta go and find out for yourselves. My wife and I made a same day reservation at Lana on a Saturday, simply because it was near Belly Up where we were going to a show that night. When we arrived there were several people waiting for their tables, and we had to wait a bit past our reservation time, but nothing major, 5-10 minutes. My first impression was that the restaurant had a great atmosphere and the staff was friendly. I did worry that we'd have a hard time getting service, just because the restaurant was very busy and bustling. Our experience was fantastic. Our server was Violet, who was super cool, very friendly, and very on top of checking in on her tables. She had good suggestions for food and cocktails, and she made our dinner a standout experience. The food and drinks lived up to the service and ambiance, and everything we had was really good. I had their house special old fashioned and another bourbon cocktail that Violet suggested with a huge square ice cube. Both were amazing. We had a burger and fries, sashimi and a chicken salad and we loved, and finished, everything. We love Solana Beach in general and we'll definitely be back. read more

Came here on a Thursday night with some friends and the inside was packed in the main restaurant and bar area. We were first seated behind the host stand and then asked for an outdoor patio seat, which was way better. We ordered a wide variety of food and overall it was a good meal, but nothing too memorable so I'm really rounding up from 3.5 to 4 stars. - Lana Chopped Salad (3.5/5): solid chopped salad with a decent amount of soppressata but the vinaigrette dressing overpowered the salad - Artisan Bread (3/5): somewhat of a disappointment. Half the bread was dry - Prime Beef Filet Tartare (4/5): the tartare overall tasted good but lacked depth in flavor. It felt very one note with the aioli and egg yolk - Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle (3/5): tasted like a standard heavy cream pasta and nothing too unique - Pacific Blue Mussels (3.5/5): mussels tasted like just mussels with no sauce. After mussels were finished and we could see the bottom of the pot, we could finally taste the sauce which was delicious. Just wish the sauce made it onto the mussels. - California Seabass Agua Chile (5/5): the best thing I ate here. Refreshing, light, nice balance of acidity. Service was overall ok. Don't think our waiter checked on us more than once to see how we were doing or if we needed anything else. Don't think I'll come back to try the other dishes. Also so annoying they charge the same prices for cocktails and mocktails. For me, this is one of those restaurants that looks cute so you want to try once but then you're good. read more

I had a really tough 24 hours, and we went to Lana that night, in Solana Beach. Lucky for me, it was just what the doctor ordered! The chef sends out some pork belly bites. Just delicious! We move onto the Mission Fig Bruschetta. We're all enjoying the cocktails each of us chose to pair with the appetizers. We move on to a glass of very good red wine with dinner. Chef Patsy is overwhelmed by the Veal Meatballs with the ricotta gnocchi. She says to the waiter: "I haven't had a meatball, besides one of my own that I make, at a restaurant that is this fantastic." She continues: "It melts in your mouth. It's lovely." Colby agrees and adds: "The ricotta gnocchi is delicious. It's pillowy and soft." Patsy and her say: : The vinaigrette on one of the salads with fresh corn is good and so is the sea bass." Colby adds, talking about again the sauces and dressing at Lana: "There's perfect contrast here. It is perfectly balanced." Then comes dessert. OMG. I would come here just for the dessert, but I think I would have to get the meatballs and gnocchi first. lol The Baked Apple Crisp paired with a local creameries vanilla ice cream with caramel is a dream come true. Pastry Chef Patsy again says: "The crumble tastes like cookies. It's delicious." Colby adds: "not to grainy and it doesn't fall apart. It's got a deeper and rich flavor with a compacted crumble and that really makes a difference." We went there for happy hour today and it was supposedly first night for live music. He was great! Margarita was yummy and so was the tuna tartare. I'd pass on the pork belly confit, it was more like ham confit.... The mushroom pizza wasn't bad either. The server was really nice!! The only thing I have questions about is the 'sesame wonton chip' or cracker, not sure what they put on the menu. I just don't think that was a sesame wonton chip lol. We live in LA and found Lana on a Google search for "kid friendly restaurants for foodies". The service was phenomenal from the moment we sat down. The California coastal menu boasts local specialties but you can tell they took their time to really dial in each dish. Our toddler had chicken fingers with broccoli- we were thankful they make their tenders in house. The broccoli was slightly charred, tender with a little crunch. Simple, yet executed so well I was bummed they were out of the hamachi crudo, so we opted for wagyu burger and honey chicken salad. (We had short rib the night prior or we would have opted for that!) Thr salad was their version of an Asian chicken Salad. Nice blend of frisée, Napa cabbage, snow peas, and chicken. Refreshing, not overly dressed, chicken was moist and plentiful. Although the burger arrived more of a medium well than a medium rare, it was incredibly juicy and the garlic aioli really tied it together. Our server noted the flaw and quickly took care of it without ever missing a beat. It goes without saying that our server was attentive, kind, and balanced the busy weekend evening while making us feel well cared for. This is worth noting because you can have amazing food with terrible service, and Lana has truly mastered both. I also think it's important to note their attention to detail goes far beyond service and cuisine. The restaurant is vibrant, cozy, and modern. I really loved the use of a large console tables styled with curated decor, vases with flowers, little hints of Solana beach, to break up the dining area. It feels effortless in the best way. The honorable mention is the women's restroom. Styled to perfection with blush toilets and brown and white tiled sinks with bright colored faucets and wooden light fixtures hanging above. We finished the meal with an perfectly sized cast iron chocolate chip cookie a la mode, complete with a birthday candle because as I mentioned before our server was incredibly attentive and heard our toddler requesting to sing happy birthday to the gentleman celebrating his 90th a few tables down. The restaurant industry is ruthless, and Lana knows exactly what to do to create an ideal dining experience. 10/10 would recommend and cannot wait to come back. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar and were glad we did. The bartender was very enthusiastic about this restaurant and had great suggestions. Lana is an upscale coastal bar that has an elevated twist of comfort food. We started off with the Artisan bread which I loved. Very satisfying and the butter was creamy wonderfulness. To add to my comfort food I also ordered a side of mashed potatoes which were dreamy and creamy. My girlfriend ordered the prime beef tartare and it was unique and very intense but delicious flavor. When you show up with your yelp reservation confirmation, the young hostesses will condescendingly inform you to make your own life easier and theirs by using open table. We sat at a bar high top since they were booked. Next, your first cocktail won't arrive. Thirty minutes later, a distressed manager will tell you it's bc they're out of an ingredient and will bring you a different one immediately. Which also won't arrive for 30 minutes. I've dined at Lana multiple times, for girls night out, special occasions (like Easter brunch), and even Valentine's with my daughter. The food has been great every time. My favorites are the Prawn Springs Rolls, Chopped Salad, and Spicy Tuna Tartare. The Corn Soup also gets honorable mention! The drinks are excellent, and there's a solid wine list to choose from. Food-wise, the half chicken is a standout with perfectly crispy skin over creamy potato purée. We also loved the chopped salad, mushroom tagliatelle, spicy tuna tartare with rice chips, and the pizzas. Save room for dessert -- the baked apple crisp is great. Just tried Lana's new brunch menu and it was delightful. Drinks: we had their Bloody Mary and the "my cousin Vinny". Both were YUM. Bloody Mary's spicy kick was not overwhelming, just how I like it. But the bitter sweet tang of the "my cousin Vinny" was my fave. Food: acai bowl...I could easily eat that every day. So smooth and quite a large serving! The breakfast sandwich was great! The fried egg was the best. And last, we had the Ranch steak and eggs. This was our favorite dish. The steak was a perfectly cooked medium rare, and they had the best potatoes I've had in quite some time. Service was lovely. Julian was our server and he was quite attentive. The ambiance is gorgeous and the most stunning I've seen recently. The vintage California vibes are EVERYTHING. And the new mural outside is incredible. Such a beautiful location! Over 28 Gals of San Diego- Gals that Bruch joined together for a beautiful Sunday brunch. We preferred to sit out on the patio side as was arranged during the reservation making, but it didn't seem to work out that we could dine there. Perhaps it was better off since it was a very warm Summer afternoon. The staff did a brilliant job with keeping up with our group. We had a set menu with four options for beverages and four entree choices. I opted for the TABLETOP SUNSET which was crafted with Blood Orange, Lemon, & Bubbles. The bagel was divine! TOASTED EVERYTHING BAGEL & SMOKED SALMON Herbed Cream Cheese, Red Onion, Capers, Dill. The edible flowers and micro greens really gave the dish such pretty colors and textures. I wasn't sure if the red onions were left off for any particular reason, but they weren't there. Everyone loved their brunch. One thing that could have been better received was that during the reservation making, the founder of our group was offered a welcome perk of a mini spritz which didn't happen. read more

I was excited to give Lana a try for my husband's birthday but it kind of ended up to be another overpriced restaurant that didn't live up to expectations. The Good: My husband had the New York steak and it was perfectly prepared and an excellent cut. It was pricey but worth it and probably the best thing we ate all night. The sashimi small plate was citrusy and a little tangy. It was great. The bread appetizer for two with an assortment of breads was good too. The mocktails were also a nice pre-dinner treat. The Bad: The service was just not great from the beginning. It took a while for water to arrive at our table and was never refilled, I got the wrong drink order, and we got the wrong dessert. We ended up waiting around quite a bit to order and pretty much never were checked up on. It also was always a different person coming to check-in which felt weird. There were no apologies for the meal mix-ups but just excuses..."Well I put it in right" were the exact words I believe. We weren't even looking for an apology or an explanation. It was just a put-off and left a bad taste for the entire restaurant experience. The confit pork belly didn't have the best flavor. Maybe it was just a personal preference but it just tasted salty and gamey. The gnocchi was overcooked. It came highly recommended but it was beyond mushy. Finally, my sea bass was dry. It was pretty fishy for sea bass and didn't have the buttery, citrusy notes I expected. I think I was expecting more for a nearly $300 meal for two. We ordered the baked cowboy creamery cheese and it's was $34! For an appetizer! It was a full wheel of cheese which seems excessive for two people and I wish they had warned us before we ordered. The oddly constructed menu worked for us. I always assume the menu a new restaurant starts with will either have some material change in a year or it will fail. There were a lot of creative and tasty drinks to start. The shrimp rolls were great to share. The tuna tartare had fun rice chips to scoop with. My wife had the pasta and thought the large serving was excellent. It is hard to say steamed mussels were great unless the broth is over the top. The mussels were good. I found this restaurant last minute through the inKind app and I'm so glad I did! It ended up being such a fun and delicious Wednesday date night. We didn't realize it was Wine Wednesday, which meant half off select bottles, so that was a nice surprise. They have an amazing wine list with tons of options for both red and white. We went with the Vermentino and it was so good! Every dish we tried was incredible. We ordered the crudo, veal meatballs, beef tartare, and Pacific blue mussels -- all perfectly prepared and full of flavor. You can really tell how much care goes into the food here. The service was just as impressive. Everyone was so friendly and attentive, from the hostess to our server to the manager who came by to check on tables. The cocktails looked amazing too, but since we had the wine, we'll have to come back to try them next time (and a few more dishes on the menu that sounded delicious!). Beware, food is mediocre at best, bruschetta was meh, not a lot of flavor, tuna tartare was average, Ive had better, heirloom tomato salad was average as well, seems like everyone is doing that in San Diego. Mussels were flavorless and the flat iron steal was chewy and not cooked to what we ordered. And the worst part, wine was presented like it was the best thing ever, seemed that whoever picked the wine list is pretentious and clueless.
