Cottage Voigt (Landhaus Voigt) makes a grrrreeeeaaat schnitzel! It's not a fancy place; It's casual and comfy, a place for the local farmers to hang out. (We thought it was a Greek restaurant at first sighting since the building is painted in crisp white and Bavaria flag blue. It's not: It's very GERMAN.) Inside it's all dark wood and bar-like with old fotos of VierlandAn authentic old-fashioned German bar / restaurant. The outdoor terrace on these long summer nights is a plus, as long as the wind isn't blowing in the wrong direction: This is the countryside and there are cows out here, if you know what I mean. There's one terrace facing the street where you can watch the fancy motorcycles drive by on sunny weekends and I think there's a garden out back, overlooking the Gose Elbe River but I haven't checked it out yet. The owner does his best to make everyone feel at home. For example, he recently bought a huge flat screen TV, just in time for viewing the Euro 2008 games. Another time, he let us borrow a corner of the fridge to store some groceries while we were having dinner. One warning though - I doubt you'll find anyone here that speaks English. read more
