Relieved to get off the road, we decided to stop here for our requisite Black Forest cake. Let me start by saying that this hotel is a very cozy place to relax if stuck in the Black Forest during bad weather. Even though the views were of nothing but white, the restaurant was very comfortable. However, do not eat here if you are in anything resembling a hurry. Lunch for three with dessert managed to eat up two hours of our day. I'm not sure how much of this is cultural and how much is the restaurant, but everyone here moves SLOOOOOWLY. When there is nothing better to do, it's not a big deal, but if we had actually had a day with good weather, I would have been very frustrated. That said, the food was worth stopping for. It is classic German cuisine done well. I was particularly thrilled to get schmalz and dark bread as a starter. Kid was very excited to eat spaetzle with gravy. "It's like noodles!" Husband and I ordered rather blindly, as the server didn't offer us a menu in English (which I saw later that they did have), and our guesses worked out well. It was an altogether pleasant meal topped off with a really outstanding Black Forest cake. If you need a place to stop just to check that particular item off of your tourist list, this is a great place to do it. Another good reason to stop is the excellent store below the restaurant. They have all sorts of Black Forest treats to take with you. We left with a BF ham, a kirchwasser salami, and a bottle of schnapps. Yum. So even if you never actually get to see the view, I would still recommend this as a stop on your Black Forest drive...who knows, the lake actually might be pretty, too!

Atmosphere: the restaurant has a very welcoming appearance. There is ample seating for various size parties. There is even a children's play area near the front of the cafe. The large windows/doors open onto a wonderful view of Mummelsee, though it was far too foggy the day we visited to see much of it. Staff: the waiter was attentive and ensured we had everything we needed. Unfortunately, one of our party received the wrong order, but the situation was resolved. Food: as we only had coffee and cake, I can only comment on that. It was thoroughly delicious. Please be aware that some of the desserts do have liqueur in them, so double check before ordering them as they may not be what you expect. Overall, this is a very nice cafe to stop at if you're traveling through the Black Forest and need a break to stretch your legs.

If you have a rental car like we did, the drive is not long (about 10-15 min). The scenery is gorgeous- we had a view of the vineyards from our balcony- and the hotel is so charming and well-kept. The lower level of the hotel has a fitness room and spa with a sauna, whirlpool/jacuzzi, steam bath, and a sun deck. It was all very pleasant and relaxing. They do charge 4 euro for the whirlpool but everything else is free. Parking is no extra charge and hassle-free...they have spaces right in front of the hotel and some a little off to the side as well. They also offer a luggage cart to save you multiple trips. Wi-fi only costs 1 euro per day. The hotel has an elevator and air conditioning! Bed was comfy. The breakfast here was very nice- we did not eat lunch or dinner in the restaurant so I cannot comment on the other meals but if it's anything like the rest of the hotel, I'm sure it's amazing. The staff, especially the woman who runs the front desk (owner?) is SO incredibly sweet and helpful. Anything we needed, any question we had, all we had to do was ask and it was handed over to us with a friendly smile. The staff we encountered spoke English rather well so communication wasn't an issue for us. Upon check-in, we were even given cards that gave us discounts at popular places to visit in town (the casino, Caracalla Spa, etc.) We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and look forward to returning some day!

Friendly front desk service that went well and above. Breakfast included with lattes. Fantastic location but hard to park / navigate. Still worth the trouble. Cons: spa offering (steam rooms, etc) was nice but it didn't seem to be well maintained, beds were ok but need new sheets (sheets had pills on them), only one pillow (plus small one) provided. Would definitely stay here again.
