He is an award-winning authentic Bavarian cook. I have had many of his dishes, everything from a currywurst to Jaegerschnitzel. The food is amazing and sets the standard for me as far as German food. There is a biergarten on the side of the building and a small bar in the main foyer. Order "ein Helles" to compliment your meal, you won't regret it. The other part of the business is a bed and breakfast. The breakfast is amazing- fresh wurst, brotchen, eggs, butter, coffee. All prepared by Sebastian's wife. It's a family-run place, and all the kids work there as well. Great ambience and the Schmidmayers are extremely welcoming and make you feel like family. The rooms are basic, and it is part of a working farm. There are cow pens directly adjacent to the gasthaus and in the summer the smell can become strong. The TV's are on the fritz a lot; some rooms have CNN International and some don't. For 50 euros a night, you can't beat it though. Plus the food and beer (ein Helles) are amazing and right downstairs. Great place if you are visiting Rosenheim/Stephanskirchen or even as a base for visiting other areas such as Salzburg, Innsbruck, Lake Cheimsee or Munich.

I arrived with my girlfriend after having biked 85km , as we had made a wrong turn... tired, hungry and defeated. We were welcomed by the host with the hugest smile, a glass of elderflower water, and a list of local recommendations for dinner. The hotel rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. The hotel was quiet. The breakfast was truly spectacular and offered a better spread than many of the most elite hotels. I'm not kidding. The owner is gracious and friendly, giving this hotel a true charm that I will never forget. We honestly thank him for turning what was a grueling day into a wonderful memory.

Many of the tables have great waterside views over the lake. We chose Wiener Schnitzel, and käsespätzle (German gnocchi with a cheese sauce) and fried onions, with a side salad; and local wheat beer to drink. The food was ok, but quantity ruled rather than quality (my partner had two schnitzel). The fried onions were the type you buy ready-made, and crunchy but pretty tasteless. It would have been four stars but service was pretty slow (the staff kept disappearing, and didn't even bother offering dessert) and despite a bill of €40 they would not accept credit cards - hard to believe in a hotel.

Needless to say I was incredibly disappointed and do not recommend this place to anyone if you are in a hurry. Maybe the food was good though, I wouldn't know.
