They have some great movies come in, but the pricing is just outrageous! It was $28.00 just to get in to see Frozen 3D with a friend and my 7 month old daughter. Well, the place has its faults. Candy prices are pretty steep. But still, I love this place. Five screens, great sound, and the people who work there are nice. I see A LOT of movies, so I feel at home there. read more

The prices at this cinema are not high. Cranbrook is a small town and if people went to the city and looked at the prices in Calgary or Vancouver they would see that Cranbrook has a pretty good deal. I go very often and buy the large pop, I always get the refill and it works out a good deal for the amount of liquid you get. All the toilets work and are clean. I have not been in a dirty cinema or had sticky seats. The staff have always been polite and corteous when I get my concessions and we often talk about other movies that are out or about to come out. Some are real film buffs with good insights to share. For the price I pay I think it's a good deal, others that do not think so need to take a look at other places for comparison before giving these guys a hard time. read more

Shame on you Columbia Theatre. The refreshment prices are outrageous, the popcorn was so nasty the other night my friend actually went back to have the concession staff microwave it in the hopes that if it were at least hot, it would taste better. The theatre itself was a sea of garbage, I'm not sure the floor has ever been mopped and I know for certain it hadn't been swept between showings. The concession ONLY takes cash, which you don't find out until you're at the counter, which is ridiculous, considering a large pop and small popcorn was just shy of $14.00. Anybody going with a family would not have that much cash per person with them, and with a single ATM for your "convenience" the line up makes people late for the movie. The night in question, the previews had no sound, the lights remained on for some time after the movie started, and even came on again once about halfway through. I hate this place, they never have staff, for example, today I was waiting 20min just for someone to take my ticket so I could get into super troopers 2, when I asked them if I could go in they said yea cuz and told me they only have 4 staff working rn. One time I was watching Star Wars early on December 14th and the sound cut out near the end of the movie for a good 20min also the lights kept turning on and off. Another time I wanted to see all eyes on me the movie about 2pac and they said on the website playing now so I came here and it was not even in. Even tho they had posters/advertisements all around the place. Bad seats, one the of the movie rooms have had a broken seat for about 4 months. The employees never seem happy. This theatre is just ok, reasonably new and decent layout. Digital picture is fine. Lack of motivated adult staff is biggest issue. It can look pretty junky in there. I would be shocked if they actually "encourage" you to bring your own snacks. To pick on any one snack item and talk about pricing (or worse, "markup" which is not a real accounting term) on pop or popcorn is ignoring the reality of any entertainment or restaurant business. These places MUST charge more, sometimes significantly more than "grocery store prices". Hollywood studios charge 60-70% of every movie ticket as "film rent". What's left over doesn't usually even pay staff to be there, so what's sold at the concession stand must pay for everything else, buildings, maintenance, heat, utilities, cleaning, and YES, enough profit on the original investment to make it worthwhile to build in the first place. Theatres could give away popcorn and soda if everyone would throw a few dollars into a "building and shareholder profit" fund AFTER buying their ticket. As with a ballgame, restaurant or live entertainment, at the movies you are paying for an evening's entertainment, NOT comparing what your popcorn costs versus a bag of it you shove in your microwave.
