My son attended the high school summer program at Landmark this year. We were so impressed by the college's program and information shared on the registration day. The campus is small yet set in expansive beautiful lush green Vermont meadows, cafeteria food was awesome, dorm buildings were typical but clean. They had a nice cocktail reception for the parents at the end of the information session and we got to say goodbye to the kids one more time. My son hardly called or texted tho it was one of his tasks during the 3 week program and by the end of first week he declared that he didn't miss home! There were several residential assistants some of whom were alumni of the college and they were very responsive and picked up calls at first ring and helped my son with misplaced phone, messages, etc. My son flew back to LA by himself and Landmark shuttle made sure he got to his flight desk. Landmark has a transition program in San Mateo, CA, I hope they have another campus on the west coast in near future. I know it sound cheesy and overly dramatic but my Landmark College experience changed and saved my life. I started at Landmark College in 1988 after struggling at 2 other colleges. Diagnosis was Executive Function Disorder with ADHD and Landmark College was a complete unknown to me. I was on a rapid downward spiral, with ever expanding issues of impulse control, time management, low self esteem among other challenges. This school change my life. It taught me very specialized skills in academics that could also be applied to daily life. Do not get me wrong it was major struggle that required some major self reflection and radical changes in thought and behavior. In the end I was able to graduate and go on to finish my Bachelor's of Science in Information Systems Management and 13 IT certifications from a variety of vendors. I currently am the CIO for a state hospital. None of this would have been possible without Landmarks exceptional staff and specialized/personalized teaching techniques. read more

It is in a rural area with nothing to do. Dorms are run down and you can't get a single because everyone needs accommodation and are forced to have a roommate socialize. Allegedly, people have bribed the school to get singles. Allegedly singles were only given to those with seniority. Admin is awful and allegedly did nothing about racism. I did make some friends but everyone knows each other and drama. Dining hall food is inedible so fireside was the only option and not healthy. Good luck going anywhere else without a car. Shuttle drivers kept quitting. Classes are too easy. Only thing I will say is small classes were nice and some professors were good. Shout-out professor Austin for writing. But good god do NOT send your kids here. Had mental break and left after 3 semesters. Also wifi is bad and there is SNOW. In a rural area. So power outages. It's bad. read more

So... Landmark. It's giving "you'll grow from this," but also "how did I end up here again?" Academically? Honestly, not bad. If you like tiny classes, professors who don't hate you for needing extensions, and learning how you learn best, then yeah--it works. You can get good grades, have a cute little campus job, and feel like you kind of have your life together (for like, a second). Socially? Mmm. Let's just say the campus is small enough that if you trip on the quad, three people will text you about it and someone you've barely talked to will bring it up six months later. It can feel real cliquey, real fast. And if you're here for more than like... a semester and a half? The walls start closing in a little bit. I won't lie--I haven't had the best time. I've had drama, weird vibes, and that feeling of "why does it smell like soup in the dorm again?" But I've also made some real connections with people who get me, and that's honestly the only reason I haven't just hiked into the Vermont woods and started a new life as a hermit. Landmark isn't the worst, it's not the best--it's just... Landmark. If you stay busy, mind your business, and find your people, you can make it work. Ah yes, Landmark College: the Ivy League of "we tried". If you're looking for a place that technically supports neurodivergent students while accidentally treating them like delicate houseplants, look no further. Everything about Landmark screams "we read a book about autism once." The staff are well-meaning, in the same way your aunt means well when she buys you noise-canceling headphones for Christmas and tells you it's because you "don't like people." Professors are friendly enough, though some seem genuinely surprised when students show up with, you know, opinions. The individualized support? Oh, it's individualized all right--assuming you enjoy being funneled through a one-size-fits-all program dressed up with your name on it. You'll have weekly check-ins, scheduled "freedom," and just enough micromanagement to make you nostalgic for high school. The campus is absolutely stunning, if your aesthetic is "brochure for a silent retreat." Want to run to a coffee shop or meet new people? Too bad--unless you count the local deer, who are arguably more emotionally available than the administration. In conclusion, Landmark is great if you're seeking a structured, scenic, and wildly expensive place to find out what happens when good intentions meet mediocre execution. I am only putting 2 stars because I am giving a thumbs up for my advisors (minus my very first 1 who was completely an ass), a bit of the dean of students who handles the NCOs when I needed to get out of a very toxic situation, and counselor. As for everything else was dog shit. I had been raped for a total 5 months, emotionally/mentally tortured to where I had been getting nonstop panic attacks, blamed for things that I have never done, and I had people who were trying to destroy my friendships which they succeeded since I now have worse trust issues than before. I had to relive past traumas which made more issues for me. The cost is awful. I lost both of my parents and the school knew about this which made paying for the college awful. They told me just to find places to get more scholarships which I tried and I was pushed into a corner to where I couldn't even finish getting to my bachelors. The stress alone from the cost was ungodly bad since it made me to not even do homework and go to classes. I had to work 3 jobs at the school to even survive at that damned place. I suggest to never make anyone work more than 1 or 2 jobs at max otherwise the student would be exhausted. I was also losing hours for work because of how many bad PTSD attacks that I had from my last semester there. Food is shit and it makes people sick. I happen to know how to avoid such issues since I always check when I sit down to eat, but those who can't are getting sick, don't have the proper accommodations for their dietary, and some of the dining hall staff give such bad attitude. Fireside alone has somewhat decent food and the book store also has food that students go to more than the dining hall. I was beginning to have very bad and weak ankles to where I have to be cautious on how much I use them. I use them a lot which caused my last semester at the college to be the worst since my ankles were looking horrendous. The health services didn't help accommodate to the services because they brushed it off. They kept on telling me that I was pregnant when I wasn't the entire time I was being sa'd. Resident life is also a joke. Some RD's are great, but others aren't. I have a good experience with the Alumni Hall RD who believed me when someone accused me of having sex with someone as well as when someone was verbally assaulting. I also have a good experience with the old RD for the chumley and bridges, he always made sure that I got notifications about when a fire alarm went off because I have an animal who has sensitive hearing and I didn't want him to get hurt by the sudden noise. The classes and teachers are helpful and well organized and I've made some great friends. My advisor is incredible and the areas beautiful. However campus safety is useless aside from enabling sexual assault and following students around to stop them from using legal substances. They were useless when trying to find a missing student and most of them don't even know the school rules. Plus they can't be bothered to do anything about biohazards or racism. My son went to Landmark for his first two years of college after failing at a local community college. Landmark taught him how to work with his LD, how to advocate for himself, and with the tutoring assistance, he was able to get through all of his core courses to transfer to a 4 yr college to finish his degree. He now holds a BA in Graphic Design. Landmark has a good teaching staff, and people who care. The dorms were no different than his other college. Its not in a populated area, but that allowed for minimal distractions, and a focus on education. There were plenty of trips to ski areas, hockey games, NY and Boston, etc. that were organized trips. He transferred to University of Vermont where he received his 4 year degree, and today is happily employed and applying for PhD programs. Not physically or emotionally safe place for learning. It is also in the middle of nowhere. Our student attended Landmark for one semester. Her roommate stole prescription medication from her room in August. After reporting the theft with evidence, nothing was done. The thief continued to bully, in person and cyberbullying. She involved others to terrorize our student. Campus Life staff talked and talked but no action was taken until the semester was almost over. If the bullying hadn't escalated to serious threats of physical harm, nothing would have been done at all. This experience was expensive and traumatic. Our student had no escape because the shuttle buses never ran. From one parent to another, save your money. Graduated students review of landmark college Where to begin with this college? Lets start with the good. The classes themselves are mostly fine. There are a handful of that shouldn't be teaching here but they are whatever. The school dose offer support in the form of office hours and Dcas which are good, but i feel like this college is very misleading because these same supports are offered at other colleges. the food has gotten significantly better in the dining hall. its a low bar but at-least you won't get food poisoning. Now for the bad, the student body is very toxic, drama and rumors spread like wildfire on this campus. Their are two girls on campus that thrive off of drama and love to spread rumors. one likes to stalk guys and writes fan fiction on the guys they stalk on campus. and the other one sleeps with guys on campus and than accuses them of SA after the relationship goes bad. Tuition-wise, this place is a complete scam, this college shouldn't be as expensive as it is, especially with the current state that college degrees are valued. The administration for the most part is a joke, most notably the head of reslife and the Vice president student affairs. There are situations that have happened that have not been handled or have been given the bare minimum amount of attention. I know this because I used to be an RA before I graduated and there have been reports I have made, and they have gone no where. The school is very strict on the drug and alcohol policy and let me tell you their amnesty policy is a complete lie. They integrate you, so its in your best interest to just call 911 in an emergency where you have a bad reaction to something you tried. Plus, some of the campus safety guys clearly have no medical experience. Speaking of campus safety, the head of campus safety isn't helpful in any meaningful way. The reslife department is a joke too. There are some good RD's and RAs, but they treat everyone like high schoolers. Also, there Are Ra's and RD that will power trip and write reports on you even if you were in a room where something happened that you had no involvement with. The RA's try to be your friend, but they do so to gather information on you and report it back to the RD's. No wonder they are hated by most of the campus. Also, all the reports made go up to the RD; s, head of reslife, and the vice president, and like I stated they are useless and brush things under the rug. The head of housing is an RD, and if she does not like you then you might not get the housing you want. So, in conclusion if you go here, stay out of trouble, focus on your grades and classes and avoid the drama. but if you can avoid this college. for the amount you are paying it really is a scam. read more

The dorms are not clean and some of the staff don't even help you when you need help. Also, they allow students to be bullied and won't do anything about it. The housing isn't that good and too expensive. They don't have any programs for African Americans. I enrolled at Landmark after submitting a detailed formal request for accommodations that included needing a note taker, extended time on exams, and access to electronic materials. These accommodations were documented with ample testing and evaluation by school psychologists as well as my doctor. I have to use Natural Reader software to be able to "read". I am able to very slowly but successfully type and edit assignments, rather than write long hand. Given enough time, I am able to demonstrate my knowledge through traditional (albeit electronically administered) exams. I mistakenly believed that Landmark would help get me started from the beginning with these accommodations as I imagined many other students would also need them. Instead, the first several weeks were complete chaos for me. I literally had no electronic materials for three of my four courses, and I was forced to buy photocopied course packs and a textbook that would basically be useless to me. I frantically looked for on-line versions of the assignments in the evenings and if I could find them, in some cases, I had to repurchase them. I was bewildered that information about access to electronic readings was not described on any of the syllabi or to my knowledge, ever mentioned in class. The letter from the president on August 29 talked about dog therapy, but not electric resources for students. I muddled through badly during this time getting a failing grade on my first history exam and spending time I needed to complete homework searching the internet for copies of the readings that could be used with Natural Reader. I let my advisor know the problems I was having, and her advice was that I send an e-mail to my instructors. So, I did. Here are the excerpts (date 9/22): Dear Professor, I have been doing my best in each of my courses these first three weeks and wanted to describe specific challenges, things that I have done to manage them, and to request additional guidance....I have kept up with all of my readings across my courses from the very first day. This has been difficult because finding course materials electronically was not always possible. Sometimes online versions did not have corresponding pages numbers making it difficult to know what to read. I was only able to secure my history book in electronic form after the second week. I still do not have the majority of readings from my course packs electronically but will keep working on it.... I would be grateful if you could provide links to course pack materials and any new materials or tests in electronic form. Natural reader or having things read is the only way for me to access them." Here are the responses from the three instructors who received this message (dated 9/22): Instructor 1: "Thank you for the detailed explanation of your challenges. You may be able to use this for today's assignment. If I can help you understand assignments better or use Canvas more efficiency, please feel free to either ask for clarification during class or meet with me outside of class. I appreciate your continued effort in this regard." No electronic materials were provided by this instructor. Instructor 2: "I am glad you are advocating for yourself." No electronic materials were provided by this instructor. Teacher 3. "Office hours are Wednesday, 4:30, and by appointment. Save for the exams, I've posted all materials on Canvas." By this time, I had found and paid for the history text on-line. For the rest of the semester, I had to take all exams (5 total, sometimes 12 pages long) with pencil and paper. When my family visited at the end of week four, we resolved to buy a second copy of the course pack so someone from home could read me the assignments over the phone. Although the school does offer tutoring to students in the evenings, there was zero evidence at this point that help could possibly include people reading all of your assignments to you. I didn't even graduate from here. I picked up NOTHING from this place. In fact, it seems like I was showing how my LD affected me in front of blind eyes. These times in my life are times I will never ever get back. I could have been going to some other college. It's taken a toll on who I am, and it's taken a toll on my functioning. By some of my peers, I felt backstabbed and betrayed. By the head of Arcade Club most particularly. I mean he told me that people avoid him, but when he showed his actions, I immediately saw his reason for it. He's driven me to the point where I've had to diss him in my songs. I guess they are not as RUSH (Respectful Understanding Safe Honest) as they said they were. Former student here (circa 05/06). If I could give this place negative stars I would. I was sexually harassed by my roommate (he would lay in bed staring at me while gratifying himself for HOURS on end, he stole from me, and staff did NOTHING. I was physically assaulted by another student for being Jewish (resulting in a dislocated shoulder and bruising), staff did nothing and did not allow me to contact law enforcement. They openly lied to my family about what was happening to me. I was placed in a class where color by numbers with markers was considered difficult homework, demeaned by teachers because I needed to "do the basics" before I could actually attend a class that had anything resembling academic rigor. I am still dealing with the trauma from this place in therapy, and my therapist says this place is in no small part responsible for my cPTSD diagnosis in 2017 read more

Posting even though direct experience is over twenty years ago. But then...isn't an opinion of use? The kids who attended Landmark did well. They went on to other colleges with easy acceptance, they have had good careers, they married well. None of those then-kids regretted attending Landmark. It must be understood that finding Landmark is like finding an oasis in the desert. Exactly the same--you're somewhat wondering if your eyes can be trusted. It's possible to come from an affluent area, hire a professional college counselor, research extensively and, still--at least then-- miss hearing about Landmark. Some of the comments here are familiar, the roommate assignment for students must have better scrutiny. Proper placement is good for everyone. Kids from various backgrounds--it's why you send a kid off anyway. Part of the college experience to be around kids of all kinds, from everywhere. That's one of many reasons to be against fraternity.....we don't want exclusion. We want our kids to be friends with everyone. There's no adjustment to super-sloppy, though. Kids should be able to opt-out of an extreme, and do it easily. Comments about remote location... I would consider that a positive. Bar hopping is possible near many campuses. Landmark is not one of them. Transportation issue....can crowd source here, find retirees willing to taxi for a small fee. The school can keep a list of vetted drivers willing to drive during set hours, with timed check-ins for safety. Food lack-luster? What's new about that---except there is Amazon now. Brandless is a great source, it has terrific snack foods that can be shipped easily. Each dorm should have a galley kitchen stocked with fruits and vegetables, let the kids learn from each other to do healthy food fun preparation---chop, blend, and whisk and invent, and --learn to keep the area clean. Need some Parents' Power with these things. Parents can liven things up, let Landmark teachers and staff stick to the knitting. Comments about cost, though....can't understand the negatives. I attended Landmark for three semesters. My dorm room had black mold in it which made me horribly sick, my advisor in my first semester left without telling me so I was basically on my own. The food is so expensive that just getting a meal from the bookstore is like $30. I learned nothing, and all I got was horrible depression and gaining 60 lbs from the shit they call food. I'm surprised by many of the comments. Seeing that many of them are from students, I can understand why, but rather disagree as this school set me up for success. This school has a great concept. Small classes, focused teachers, classes are a little longer and more intentional. Teachers are actually available in homework clubs..as a transfer to a top school in California after achieving a 4.0 at landmark, I can tell you that teachers willing to go the extra mile is not easy to come by. Teachers actually engage students at this school. The kids that complain with poor Yelp reviews I can promise you did not put in the required effort to overcome their disability at this school. They were probably forced to attend. I chose and gave it my all. I took advantage of the small extended classes, took advantage of the open office hours from teachers, took advantage of the extended time given to student to finish their test, took advantage of minimal distraction and enjoyed the peace and quiet of Putney Vermont. I went from failing college classes, distracted and discouraged in community college to acing landmarks college courses. I applied myself. I excelled in sports from coaches hosting small teams, I became a campus ambassador, captain of the soccer team and even ran on the campus student led board. Yes, not a lot of girls..and you know what..I focused on my school work. Yes not a lot of partying..and you know what, I focused on my school work. You want to be successful? You want to get passed your ADHD and be given the tools to succeed, away from the agenda of big community colleges that you'll get lost in? Show up at landmark, actually pursue bettering yourself, hang with motivated people and plug in to the tools they offer. The rest of the kids on here commenting are the ones that failed and didn't push themselves that extra way. I now have a beautiful family, run a successful company and own my own home. Landmark truly saved my life. Growing up I struggled a lot in school and with making friends due to being diagnosed with ADHD, and NVLD. This school taught me how to work with my LD in both the classroom with successfully passing school and making friends outside of the classroom with other individuals who also learn differently. I'll admit though Landmark like all colleges isn't always a walk in the park but it all depends on your mindset, attitude, and willingness to improve as well as your response to failure. Attending classes and doing well in all of them with the work is extremely crucial to your success at Landmark. Landmark taught me that whenever I fall to get right back up and come back bigger and stronger than before. In addition to doing the work who you choose for your group of friends will also substantially contribute towards your success at Landmark. If you choose a group of people with a sense of right and wrong, who make good decisions, push you to do well in school by always making sure you go to class and do your school work you're gonna be successful and happily graduate from LC or if you decide to leave without a degree and transfer elsewhere do well in your chosen dream school. When I was a student at Landmark never would I imagine that I would receive tremendous amount of care and support from the faculty and staff there and form lifelong solid friendships with many people from all walks of life with a good number of whom I keep in contact with even after I left Landmark after six years there (2011-2017) as well as the mentors who watched me transform into the successful person I am today. Another beautiful connection factor about Landmark is even if you've left the school the mentors that you had there from time to time will take a good portion out of their busy days to check up on you and see how the post college world is treating you and it's absolutely ok if you don't have your post Landmark plans lined up right away whether it's more school or taking a dive in the workforce. If it wasn't for Landmark I wouldn't have found my dream job in Human Resources in NYC in which I strive to be better at everyday and incorporate the lessons LC taught me during my long time there as a student. I think that Landmark is a life changing place for people who struggle with learning differences. It was exactly what I needed after failing out of college and not being sure if I would ever be able to succeed in an academic setting. I am about to graduate with my bachelor's degree and feel way more confident that I can succeed than when I came in. Landmark has help me bolster my job experiences with all the jobs they offer on campus and with their internship opportunities that they offer. There are so many support systems that are available if you are willing to reach out for help. I think the professors are all willing to work with you and help you to succeed as soon as you reach out to them and ask for help. This is the kind of place that will give you everything you need if you are willing to put in the time and the effort. Don't just expect it to be a magic cure all that will make everything easy for you. This is a college and that means that it requires you to put in what you want to get out of it. Landmark is definitely not perfect, but I don't believe there is a better place to learn how to learn and learn how to live with a learning difference. There are plenty of grants and financial aid options, so you don't quite have to pay the sticker price but like a lot of colleges these days it's still expensive. read more

I only have 5 weeks of experience at this campus, but i've seen quite enough. The classes are pretty worthless. If you could graduate high school, you're probably above the bar for this college. They don't really teach you any ways to apply what you "learn". They teach you concepts we've all heard of, and talk about why they're important, but that's about it. The professors are almost all nice, but most seem pretty clueless too. There's been hardly any homework at all, and very, very few tests. To some of you, this may seem a good thing, but for people who want to actually improve themselves to move on to a decent college, this campus fails to deliver on it's promises. It doesn't help LD students, it coddles them and convinces their parents they can't succeed anywhere else. The classes here will only be satisfying for you if you have below a 6th grade reading/writing level. The campus is horrendously boring. One game room with limited games, one expensive cafe only open until midnight. Quiet hours start at 9pm sunday-thursday, and for friday and saturday, it's pushed back to 11pm. Wow! The town is also equally boring. I was lucky enough to have a car, but really, there's not much around. I only stayed in Frost Hall, but it was pretty terrible. Too hot, and if you don't leave your windows open 24/7, it starts to smell horrendous. Even for those of us here with decent hygiene, it can get bad leaving the window closed for one day. For the students who stay locked in their room, never shower or do their laundry, the smell can't be contained by their door. Certain ends of the hallway are disgusting. There are no community kitchens, except in the small dorms reserved for seniors. That means your only real options for food are the dining hall with very limited hours, and the expensive cafe that's only open until midnight. Nothing in the common areas except a single tv. The attempts at campus events are laughable. The most recent one I noticed was "Cereal and cartoons night" in which they invited us down to the common area to eat cereal and watch cartoons. Sometimes they have small, boring campfires with nothing to do but eat marshmallows and listen to that one group loudly talk about D&D or whatever. Campus security are unnecessarily aggressive and incompetent. They refused me the right to go to the bathroom while I was locked in a room and being interrogated for a violation they couldn't prove I committed. Then they fined me $100 because some drunk people said I was with them off-campus. The quiet hours are enforced strictly. Sometimes they tell us to quiet down before quiet hours even start. The staff aren't interested in helping anyone. The RD spits chewing tobacco 24/7, even while giving us an hour long lecture about how great he is. Pretty unprofessional. read more

Most teachers are average to low at most. Do yourself a favor goto Rochester or mit, dont waste time or money here, its not worth the price, even Kings Boro is a better choice. I did not graduate from here and just hinted close to a C to a failing grade because of this lackluster. There is No room for advancement either. Some people in the dorms are rude and shouldnt be there. Cafeteria food is average to terrible. There is no college more committed to educating students with learning differences. The leadership and staff are first-rate. The campus is bucolic. Our son earned his Bachelor's degree at Landmark after being unsuccessful at another college. We saw students with challenges overcome them and thrive. It's ideal for anyone who needs to overcome dyslexia to move on to another college or for autism spectrum students to have social relationships which had been elusive. Landmark helped me by teaching me about what LD's I had and ways to work with those to be successful in everyday life. I had read on on here one review where someone had discussed that Landmark did not help students with learning how to do laundry. That is not what college is for. When you go to any other college in the world they are not going to teach you how to do laundry. Another review here discussed how staff/ teachers spread rumors about students. I can not in anyway believe that not at Landmark College. I have never herd of a staff member spreading a rumor about a student. Most of the staff there are supportive of the students and want to help. Not only are the teaching staff willing to help so are just staff in general. All of the extra like Campus activities Board and the radio station. Now I am sure there are some students that do not get along with other students and the staff at the college are always there to help with that. As for academics it really depends on what you take for classes and if you do the work and ask for the help. Not doing the work or asking for help results in bad grades. However teachers always look out for students not doing well and will get in contact with that student asking what is going on to see if they can help them figure out a way to get there work done to get better grades. We all have to remember what might work for one person may not work for another and one person't bad experience may not mean that everyone is going to have that bad experience. At Landmark College your experience is what ever you make of it. If you do the work ask and seek the help you need make a good connection with your teachers and get involved with extra activities on campus one can have a great experience. It was such a great college! I have attended there from 2008 to 2010. For those who are saying that Landmark was not a good school for students with LDs, well I'm a student with an LD and the teachers, counselors, and others really helped me a lot. I really enjoyed this college and Its a fun school and it has really brightens me up during the good days and the bad days. I first done the High School summer program in 2007 and it was so much fun and I chose to come to Landmark for the Fall of 2008. I've made many friends there and I have NEVER have any problems with the teachers and others at that place. Sure my first year was bad but the rest of my years at Landmark got better and you live and learn. I miss that place a lot and I can't wait to go to the Alumni reunion soon and see my friends again. read more

Well, first thing is first. The weekends at this college are incredibly boring other than the fact that you can hop on a shuttle bus to Keene, NH or Brattleboro, VT. There's absolutely nothing to do in Putney other than going to the diner, a thrift store, a general store, and a food co-op. As for the professors at Landmark, most of them are alright, but there are two things: one is the fact that one of the professors at this college even admitted that he didn't want the job to be a professor at Landmark, but I guess took the job anyways and he really seemed to almost look down at the students in a way. The other thing I wanted to say as far as the professors are concerned is the fact that I was the News Director for the radio station for about a semester and a half and I actually was doing a really good job at it. But, this one day, I wasn't having a particularly good day and the teacher looked at me and asked if I could smile for him... Obviously, I felt belittled and patronized by this request so instead of me getting into an argument with him, I just politely walked out of the classroom to decompress, as I was already aggravated enough as it was. Next thing I know, I'm kicked off of the leadership team and am no longer the news director all because I wouldn't smile...... Uuuuhhhh this isn't kindergarten, is it? But I will say this though, the academic supports at Landmark are really helpful and beneficial. Yah, I do kind of wish you could have a DECAS appointment that's longer than an hour, but oh well. It is what it is I guess. One thing that bothers me a little bit though is the fact that if you want to get a private tutor, you have to pay out of pocket for one instead of it just coming with your tuition which is already a shit ton of money. It's a college for students who learn differently; wouldn't you expect a private tutor to come with your tuition if you need one? Anyways, in conclusion, coming from someone who was at this college for two years, I personally would not recommend you apply to Landmark... I like their gymnasium, and I like the fact that there are trails in the woods that students can walk around and enjoy the outdoors (although I do believe there's a catwalk somewhere that literally never gets used), but honestly, the negative kind of out way the positives of this college. Apply to a college that not only has excellent academic supports, but also one with a better location, tutors that you hopefully don't have to pay out of pocket for, and professors who are more interested and wanting to help the student succeed and won't baby them just because they may be having an off day which everyone has from time to time. read more

If I could give this school no stars I would. I am current student here who is leaving after two semesters here who thought I was leaving after I was one class short of getting my AA but no my advisor lied to me I'm actually a whole semester short of it. They say they accommodate for all disabilities! That's crap! I have a visual impairment on top of my ld and I was still accepted so they should still accommodate. I spoke to Michael Luciani who is the ADA coordinator here and he did not care at all. I am 28yrs I transferred in with more than enough credits and they put me in the housing with all the freshman and said oh well that's how it works. Because a bookstore employee quit in the middle of the semester we now have no food available except the five hours each day the dinning hall is opening each day. We try and point this out to the staff that higher up and they just don't care. I know about half of the students who are leaving this semester because this school is truely shit! read more

This is actually a very very good school who will support you. Not everyone is nice and kind but most of them are. You have an academic advisor that you can see weekly to talk about anything and everything that goes on in the class. Peg Alden which is one of the teachers I had last semester, for example, is a very honest and good person at heart and really does care about the students she teaches. Daniel Miller is also a very caring and understanding head of academics who will talk to you and figure out possible solutions if you had issues getting classes. Patti Delaney also an absolute gem of the school when it came to working with you. No school is 100% perfect but this school really does help you in every single way when it comes to tutoring services, academic advisors, teacher discussion. The president of the school is also a very nice and caring person when you talk to him and really shows he cares tremendously about the safety of his students. You really can't find a better school than Landmark College. I mean this is the school that even inspired me to go for a masters in education when I am done. read more

My daughter attended the summer transition to college program so my review really only applies to that. In short it was poorly run and poorly organized - not the best thing for LD kids. I thought she'd learn different organizational and study strategies that she could apply in college but they were taught one way of doing things. When she told them that this way didn't work and asked for other suggestions (isn't that what we want...for them to self-advocate?) they told her just to do things this way and then she could do her own thing when she went to college. That's not why we sent her there. I suppose it did give her a "practice" college experience of having a roommate and dealing with a lecture type class but it is advertised as being much more than that. read more

VERY Expensive alternative for kids who learn differently. Expense increased exponentially each semester. However--along with the mega gaming skills--my ADD/dyslexic son gained some good college skills in the three semesters he attended. He also failed a couple classes which should've/could've been prevented; did well when he retook them, but was left with barely a freshman semester worth of transferrable classes after 3 $$$ semesters. Some teachers were awesome; yet a few were lacking in communication and organizational skills, or even updating grades into ISIS before end of semester. Get password access into the system so you can help your kid stay on track if this is one of their weaknesses. I only recommend this place if your kid shows a fair level of independent time management, organizational and college readiness skills, otherwise you may be doing long distance scaffolding without access to materials and information--just getting my kid to use tutoring involved daily texts reminding him of DCAS hours. I do not recommend this place If you live in the West Coast. I felt the distance was too great to offer my son any real help when this college failed him (horrible roommate issues, no real hands on support when he was struggling with classes or help when he fell really ill) He had the roommate from HELL his first semester--this kid didn't shower or do laundry for months at a time, vomited on my kids side and didn't clean it, left food and wet clothes to mold and attract bugs, would light fires with his Magic Cards, had irregular sleep/wake patterns and would lock himself out and knock on the door at 3am on exam days, etc. And, the whole hall four dorm (since renamed Stone) which lacked an RA during his entire first semester, was invaded by this guys noxious smells. Son attempted to report and manage situation on his own like an 18 yr old should, yet nothing was done despite several emails up the chain of command until I had to get involved. Problem was reported within the first weeks, even then it took an entire semester to resolve. Not the sort of experience one would expect after so much $$$, right? Son is now doing well at the local community college utilizing the DSS (they have Kurswiel too!...and note takers) at a fraction of the $$$, he is on a slower track to transfer to a university in his chosen major but at least it will not cost us a Kidney. I do think Landmark helped him with college readiness, but.... In my sons own words, "Landmark helped me somewhat academically , but what mostly helped was my figuring out how to live and study on my own in a difficult environment" This place is a real shock to kids who never lived thu an East Coast Winter. Lovely small campus, but some of the kids can be a bit odd and son felt trapped there without car access, or even the ability to walk anywhere in the snow (shuttle system not as easy/avail as they make it sound--he never was able to reserve a shuttle to the airport therefore more $$$ to get him to and fro via private car). I think the most successful students there are the already older/college experienced ones. They may have failed out of traditional college and have a major they want to bang out the pre-requisites for in a more supportive environment--those students get the most bang for their buck and are usually out in a couple semesters. If your child struggled in high school and continues to struggle with organization and procrastination they will not get the scaffolding you would expect--save your money and send them to community college as their High school IEP will give them early registration, note takers and extra time on test. They will struggle in some classes and need to drop them and retake but this will happen at Landmark too at a huge cost. The study's skills and extra support Landmark sells you is not really substantial or effective enough to justify the cost. Despite the enormous expense and huge negatives, there are some really good teachers and counselors that get smart kids with dyslexia. And, son made a couple of life-long friends and had great roommates the last 2 semesters (unfortunately, they all live on the East Coast). Landmark College provided a truly transformative experience for our son. This is the place where he was taught 'how to learn' and figure out what he needed to do to carry these skills through into everyday life. The work was challenging at times, but made manageable by the extraordinary teachers, who genuinely cared about our son's educational success. Our son arrived on campus with mediocre grades and low self esteem. Two years later, he graduated with an Associate degree, a fantastic approach to learning, and to life in general. Also highly impressed with the college counseling services who steered our son through the college transfer process - he now successfully attends Mount Ida College in Boston and is on track to graduate with a BA. I believe Landmark College now offers a 4 year BA program - we only wish this had been available during our son's stay at Landmark as he would definitely have enrolled. read more

We were blessed to find Landmark in the midst of a general college search. My twin sons, both with Asperger's, ADHD & NVLD, were quite anxious about the whole process until we discovered this place. We visited on a cold, wet, dreary day, which I took as a bad omen, but after seeing and hearing about Landmark, one son says "I can really see myself here." It took 5 semesters but they both grew so much, gained such confidence, loved their professors, tried new things. Landmark had the necessary balance between support and freedom. They learned self-advocacy, time-management, and a host of life-skills. They each took different study-abroad trips, and expanded their world-views. Worth every penny. I'm sure I would have enjoyed myself more at this place if I had started a different semester and if I hadn't come from a women's college that was, ahem, a different experience shall we say? Whatever, I know plenty of people who loved this place, several who hated it, but I'd say almost everyone had a love/hate relationship. I heard from the granddaughter of the college's first president that it went downhill after he split awhile ago. It seems to have improved recently, at least i hope. It's funny that the first reviewer said "I guess that's why some people wish to have their memory erased." Yeah, my recollection of landmark is quite foggy actually. Man, i miss J.D.'s read more

This place is a professional con-job. It convinces families that this is their only option for their children with LD to get a college degree. These are the people who never obtained--or were under schooled in transition planning--during their child's special education class. And knowing when a sucker comes onto their property, the school milks them for tuition. I had been upset about the costs of my tuition--until I happened to see a bill from this place. Wow! Somebody figured out how to make easy money off of really gullible parents. You don't see very many older students here. It is mostly younger students--and lots of helicopter parents. They have good intentions, but they're so anxious for their children that they haven't paid full attention to what the campus is really doing. read more

As a parent of a student who graduated with a AA degree in 2 years, I am in a position to see the best of what LMC can produce. It must be appreciated that the college is a very mixed bag of students, who have differing abilities, backgrounds and goals. Because the focus is squarely on ADD and dyslexia the students come in with some serious learning challenges. This in addition to the transition to college life that we in America have decided is 'sink or swim' for most students. Many LMC students have tried to swim at other colleges and ended up being pulled from the water and redirected to LMC. About 2/3 of the entering class have started elsewhere and transferred into LMC with some or no credits. The major thrust of LMC is to teach kids about themselves, their learning challenges and how to accept and manage both. Self knowledge is the key along with lots of staff support of the kind that many parents provided for their kids all through high school. Students meet with advisors every week and if they dont turn in assignments to their profs, the advisor is informed and follows up immediately, not at the end of the semester when nothing can be done to remedy the situation. The student body seems to very accepting of all sorts of emotional and intellectual diversity - it is largely made of the bright kids hiding at the back of the HS class, or the kids from the AV club. Some students are normal kids who simply cant read because of their dyslexia, and others are very bright but have minimal time management skills. The goal seems to be to identify each students strengths and weaknesses and tailor and individual program to get them to better deal with the educational world outside. The school says if you stick it out to the AA degree, then there is 75% acceptance rate at a mainstream college. My daughter got into Rutgers after LMC which was a great outcome as far as I was concerned. FYI: to graduate with an AA degree in two years you will have to take a few summer classes, otherwise its at least 5 semesters of work. For what it is, LMC is unique and the best of its kind in my opinion. read more
