This is our second time at Lands End. It's a park in the northwest corner of San Francisco with hiking trails around rocky cliffs above the ocean. Parking is free if you arrive there early and get a spot, but they get packed easily. It's one of my favorite trails in the Bay Area with stunning views. It's a bit windy and chilly there. Make sure to begin your visit with a stop in the new visitor center, the Lookout (to learn about the cultural history of the area). The overlook allows you to see the great views of Sutro Baths and the Pacific Ocean. It's also a famous spot to watch the beautiful sunset. read more

I lived in the Bay Area when younger and have visited San Francisco over a dozen times as an adult. How is it that it took until this month for me to visit Lands End? What a delightful spot! You feel like you're in a completely different place when in reality, you're still in a vibrant amazing city. I ended up walking the Lands End Trail, starting at the visitor center and ending at Eagle's Point. It was a lovely, leisurely stroll and wasn't too crowded. Stunning ocean views and different perspectives of the Golden Gate Bridge along the way. Highly recommend! 2025: 61/100 read more

Every time I've walked the Lanson Trail I am so happy that I returned. The pure beauty of the entire walk is spectacular. Lots of steps with a sense and descends so be prepared for that. A variety of sensational views are offered along the way- there are a wildflowers in the spring blooming and lots of shaded areas under the Cypress trees. read more

This is amongst my favorite trails to hike in SF because it has a gorgeous view of the ocean and Golden Gate Bridge. It also has a lovely patch of Calla Lily at the bottom of the staircase to the trail head. Also, it has so much shade like at least 90% shady. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was some of the steeper stair cases along the path. It does help with having a more rigorous walk but it does a number on the knees. If you take detours for vista points then this hike is around 4.5miles total. I thoroughly enjoyed my hike and look forward to visiting again mid March next year for peak Calla Lillies season. read more

Lands End has been a family favorite for years! Every time we have friends/family visiting this is the one place in SF we HAVE to take them! It's such a great place to be in the city, without feeling like you're actually in the city. The views of the Golden Gate, and if you're here on a clear day - the Farallon islands, are spectacular. With all the trees, plants, and different rock formations (both natural and manmade) there's beauty just about everywhere you look - not to mention the surrounding ocean of course. Lands End has multiple different areas to explore and routes to take, so you can come here many times before seeing it all. The Sutro baths are a must see, and if you can maneuver lots of steps or a steep hill they are worth the trek down. Don't forget to check out the cave while you're down there too! Though it's no longer there, the area that was always known to have labyrinth is a great spot to get a view of the golden gate and watch boats cruise into the bay. There are a couple ways to access this area, both do involve quite a few steps, with the beach side having more of an incline. Parking and visiting is free, though be aware that parking can fill up quickly on a nice weekend. The parking lot also has well kept bathrooms and a gift shop. read more

This may be my favorite place in SF. So beautiful, and so peaceful. There's a great hiking trail that will take you north about a mile and half. If you go a bit further, you can get to China Beach or Baker Beach. Lands End is also located right next to Ocean Beach (neighboring to the south), and is accessible via the light rail muni or the bus. It isn't always sunny and warm in this part of the city, but when it is, it doesn't get any better. Great views of the ocean, and interesting scenery all around. Also, great trails to wander about. There are also a few good restaurants nearby, although I usually pack a lunch when I head out there. Well worth the trek! read more

Within a short walking distance from the lower or upper parking lot (I suggest you try parking at the upper one) there are jaw dropping views of the San Francisco Bridge, the Sutro Baths, and the heart shaped rock nearby. A nice and easy hike with clear paths are fantastic to walk. read more

Incredible views of the landscape and golden gate bridge in the distance, remarkable and lovely Sutro Baths ruins, decent trail lined with endless trees and greenery and no exhausting inclines, a visitor center that displays and sells items related to the nature and history of this place (Lands End Lookout and restrooms open 9-5pm daily), historical shipwreck remains and USS SF memorial on site, and Ocean Beach just steps away. This is far more than just a park, it's a breathtaking and delightful destination for individuals, couples, and families. Clean and well kept for the most part. Lots of free parking, too. read more

An odd intersection of man and nature. Beautiful sunsets and ocean views - probably one of the nicest places for photo opportunities. This place is a park and is of course mostly nature. The beach, the ocean, trees, bushes - wild flowers.... But there are just enough hints of man made stairs and skeleton bones from Sutro Baths and graffiti on old foundations that it makes the place very interesting. I'd say its perfectly imperfect. The stairs make the hike down very quick - you don't even notice it because your so fixated on the ocean views and the sunset and the sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks. If your lucky its a clear day and you can see out - far into the distance. Hiking trails for novice hikers. It feels more like a walk - but a beautiful one. Time goes by more quickly around here so there is your warning. Might also want to bring a jacket as it can be sort of windy at times. There are two parking lots - I think either works - the point here isn't to get the closest parking spot and do this quick - this is a small afternoon outing that is best done in an hour or two. If you do have an EV there are two charging spots - but be carful - everybody in SF has an EV so they are likely taken. Don't come with a dead battery. A visitor center is at the top - I have never been in there but there are some water fountains for humans and dogs. The visitor center is part of the man made that beautifully blends with the surrounding nature. Its small and tastefully done with nice details. Sutro Baths is another point of interest here. Apparently this was some sort of swimming pool type place - I assume using fresh salt water sometime around that late 1890s. Later in the mid 1940s I believe Sutro Baths closed. There are remnants of the place and foundations and green soupy water. Interestingly enough it doesn't smell that bad - must be high salt water content keeping the bacteria from growing. None the less I wouldn't want to fall in this green stuff.... and there are so many people around here balancing and walking past one another - it would be very possible. I liked the graffiti on the concrete slabs. It makes from good Instagram worthy photographs. I often see tourists going to the ugly parts of Oakland - and taking photos in front of graffiti - I'm sure its a thing. Your time here could be hindered by fog. Fair warning. I think for that reason and for reasons of danger and falling down cliffs I took a star away. That is my warning to you. Watch your kids and dogs and whatever and bring a sweater. read more

Lands End is one of my favorite trails in the Bay Area. Every time we visit, I always want to take a walk here! The trail is only about 1.5 miles so it isn't too bad at all and it's got some stunning views! It can get a bit chilly if it is windy. The trail is dog friendly as well! On our most recent trip, we took our doggo to walk here and he loved it! There are some areas that have a lot of stairs, like the beach. You don't have to go down there but you can! If you do, just prepared for the stair master in real life! Definitely recommend if you've never been. They have a parking lot too but it gets busy so you may or may not be able to find a parking spot. read more

This is a very assessable location with a visitor center, and lots of parking. FYI do not leave luggage or valuables in your car. Being perched over the Sutro Bath Ruins, and given that there are both trails to the Ruins below, and to The Legion of Honor located in Lincoln Park this is a great starting point if you want to explore. From this location you can often sight numerous ships entering , and leaving the San Francisco Bay, and spy wondrous Sunsets . If you opt to explore via the Trails then please wear sensible shoes that can get a little dirty, and have on hand a light jacket due to the persistent marine layer fog. If you are in need of beverages, light snacks, or sun screen there is also a Walgreens a few blocks East at 25 Point Lobos Ave. If you opt to hike toward the Legion of Honor you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and Strait. If you're planning on coming to Lands End, I would say the best time to come would be mid afternoon. The fog should be gone by this time making way for the scenic views. I would still bring a jacket, water and wear shoes you don't mind getting dirty. The parking lot is not really that big but fills up quick as this is a popular destination for locals and tourists. The Lands End Lookout is a visitor center but I see it more as a gift shop. It's a good place to go to if you want to learn about the park or to pick up a souvenir. The water fountain and restrooms are located outside the lookout. Keep track of the time as the restrooms and lookout opens and closes at the same time from 9am - 5pm daily. Going down the stairs from the parking lot leads you to an upper view of the ruins of the Sutro Baths. When it opened in 1896 to the public, it was the world's largest indoor swimming pool. Unfortunately, it burned down 70 years later and the ruins are what's left of it now. There's a separate trail that leads you to the bottom of the Sutro Baths where you can walk around it. There's also a cave nearby to check out while you're down here. There's another set of stairs going up from the parking lot that takes you on the walking trail. It's a paved and dirt trail with some stairs in the middle. Some parts of the trail are very narrow so be respectful of the people that are also walking this trail. The path is very straightforward and it took me half an hour to reach the end to a paved street in a residential area so an hour total to go back. Other points of interest would be the Labyrinth and Mile Rock Beach. When you're on the hiking trail, there's a set of stairs to your left that takes you down which leads you to the Labyrinth and Mile Rock Beach. Unfortunately, it looks like the Labyrinth is no longer there but they might bring it back in the future. Mile Rock Beach is just further down from the Labyrinth. Overall, Lands End is just a beautiful place to spend a day. I love breathing the real fresh air, hearing the waves crashing on the rocks, hearing the seagulls chirping and feeling the breeze hit my face. Big shout out to the workers that do a great job of maintaining the park. read more

Lands End - Sutro Baths on foggy day - Parks Near Me - San Francisco, California

This place was absolutely gorgeous. We started near sutro bath. It was absolutely gorgeous. There was a small mysterious cave the bottom. The hike back up was pretty tiring but it only gave me more motivation to start the actual trail. The trail itself was relatively quick and east. It took about less then an hour to complete the while trail. If you want to go down to the beaches then it will take a little longer. I mean why not? You are there so might as well go through all of it. My only suggestion is to not go to close to the edges. I saw a lady throw her dogs ball off the edge and the dog ran down the steep cliff to grab it. Luckily the dog did not get injure and somehow ran back up after the owner yelled for its name multiple times. The hike is relatively easy and has very nice views. It is family friendly and the while family can enjoy the view. read more

Beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean Lands End is south of the entrance to the Golden Gate. We've come here a few times to gaze at the breathtaking views, watch the sunset from the Lookout and enjoyed walking in some of the trails. They are not difficult but prepare for lots of stairs. Sutro Baths - once a fancy swimming pavilion built in late 19th century, we wandered around the ruins by day including the cave where we watched angry waves crashing at the rocks at the opening end. The cave has been barricaded and no longer open to the public. We also came here one time at night but just went halfway down the stairs... it was scary and and a bit creepy. Seal Rocks - unique rock formations on the Pacific Ocean. They are located near the Cliff House and Sutro Bath ruins at the north end of the Ocean Beach. It got its name from the sea lions who migrated and hung out at the rocks. California Coastal Trail - this walkway starts above the Cliff House and ends in the residential area of Sea Cliff near China Beach... It's about 1.5 miles long. I've not done this trail (yet) but I bet parts of the trail open out into some of the most picturesque panoramic sceneries... Cliff House - So sad to see this landmark gone. Built in 1863, this iconic restaurant has closed its doors permanently just recently after 157 years in operation. It survived fires and earthquakes but not COVID-19. Last time we were there the white walls were already plastered with graffiti :( Visitor Center at the Lands End Lookout - nice gift shop with books, maps, and restrooms. Closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. If I'm lucky one day I'll get to see some whales near Lands End since San Francisco is on the migration route for many species of whales and different whales migrate at different times during the year! On the way from our visit to the Legion of Honor Museum and on our way to our next destination is the the beautiful Lands End beach/trail. I had a hard time driving this stretch of road and not wanting to stop and admire it all. Life is too short to always be in such a hurry. So we pulled over on 9/4/21 to take this area all in. The panoramic views looking out towards the Golden Gate Bridge are breathtaking. There are picnic benches near the beginning of the trail facing these amazing views. The hiking trail disappears into tall Cypress Trees and curve around the cliffs overlooking the Bay. We didn't get a chance to walk the hiking trail on this trip but this is on my list of things to do on a return trip. read more

Was having serious "indooritus" from COVID SiP, so piled all the kids into the car and took them out to Lands End. It was kind of an impromptu trip (during the summer) into the city, but a fun and much needed one. We parked near one of the entrances off of the Lincoln Golf Course, access to the trails was easy to get to. The walk down to Mile Rock Beach was fairly quick and easy. My toddler walked pretty much the whole way down to the beach. The views from just about every angle were absolutely breathtaking. The Lands End Labyrinth looked like it was inspired by The "Man in the Maze" (at least that's what it looked like to me) was really special to see in person and the view right off the Maze of the Golden Gate Bridge was another one of many stunners. The hike back was a little challenging for my littlest since the walk is all uphill. We took our time and really enjoyed being outdoors and taking in all the views. It's the kind of magical place where time seemed to stand still even for just a bit. Really look forward to coming back and exploring the Sutro Baths and the tunnel. COVID I would say about 95% of people we encountered were wearing masks which was great considering at the time it wasn't a requirement to wear them outdoors. It was nice to see the majority of people pull together to be considerate of others especially bc you have to pass each other on the trails. Highly recommend Lands End especially when it's safe to have out of town visitors , you just can't go wrong with the spectacular trails and the sweeping views. read more

NATURES STAIR MASTER! Come here for leg day! The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is due to crappy signage throughout. For being a tourist and locally famous spot, you'd think there would be appropriate and helpful signs that are not tagged up or missing information. We really had to guess our way through so we were here a total of 2 hours and walked about 5.5 miles. We parked next to the Legion of Honor on Camino del Mar and a golf course. Once we walked to the sutro baths, we saw there was a whole other parking lot next to those where you could also start the trail. On the opposite end of the trail from the sutro baths is the Golden Gate Bridge views. I overheard someone say you can walk further to connect to another trail that takes you to the actual Golden Gate bridge from there as well as walk down through a residential area to a nice beach. On the Sutro Baths side there is a VA hospital and a short walk to Ocean Beach which allows dogs. Lands End also allows dogs (or if it doesn't, I never saw a sign). A lot of folks had their dogs off leash but they were all calm pups. I never saw the labyrinth but I didn't miss it too much because the views are gorgeous along with the smell of salt water and eucalyptus trees. I cannot emphasize enough how many stairs you will do. On our health app, it said we did 55 flights climbed. Do NOT bring a stroller or walker as it is not that kind of place. I came on a Thursday between 11-1 and it wasn't packed but I could see it being uncomfortably busy on the weekends. Wear layers because that ocean breeze will hit you. We had very little fog so it was amazing. read more

Lands End - Nothing like the California Coast! - Parks Near Me - San Francisco, California

Whenever I come to Lands End, I'm always astonished by how striking it is. The sutro bath ruins, the cave, the Lookout points, the beautiful pockets beaches, the batteries, the hiking trails; none of it gets old. NONE of it. I could visit this place hundreds of thousands of times and still be in awe during each and every visit. What attracts me to Lands End is its' history. I feel like every time that I visit, I learn something new. I love walking out to the lookout point and seeing the beautiful labyrinth beneath me. Or admiring those gorgeous waves as they softly crash against the rocks. I love walking down to the pocket beaches. Baker Beach. China Beach. Mile Rock Beach. Marshall's Beach. All of them tell a different story. All of them are beautiful. I enjoy hiking along Lands End Trail through Seacliff and the Presidio. Going past all of the beautiful homes and seeing the old war batteries. Making the journey to and across the Golden Gate Bridge. But, perhaps the most intriguing element of visiting Lands End for me is the Sutro Bath Ruins. Every time I see those ruins, I imagine how horrible it must have been to see the original baths burning down in flames. It's so crazy how the ruins became a beauty all in itself. Something so famous that people come from all over the world to see it. But, I get to see it too. Because it's practically right here in my backyard. And that, I'll never take for granted. read more

This place is a magical. If you're lucky you will be able to see the GG bridge but most likely you'll run into fog. Took the 38 R bus from the Salesforce transit center and many stops later, we arrived at the Land's End visitor's center. Stop in and learn about the history of the area. There are several places to explore including the Sutro Baths and mini hikes through the woods. We brought a blanket, snacks, and some wine and had a mini picnic on cliff while looking into the ocean. It was pretty foggy but still gorgeous as ever. read more

A really beautiful area, although there are areas that have a lot of trash or can be dangerous. So you have to watch your step closely! The wind blows really strongly in the area but it's a great stroll and there are many paths to walk around. Lovely vibes. read more

This is such a beautiful, easy hike with amazing views of the Golden Gate bridge. We actually didn't make it very far with our temperamental children, but luckily you don't have to walk for the views! There's also a path down towards the beach where you can have a view of the Sutro Baths. There are benches along the way to relax and enjoy the view. Tons of parking with two parking lots. Covid update: Visitor center, restrooms,and cafe is currently closed. They have two porta potties next to the upper parking lot that were the most disgusting porta potties I've been in of late- so go to the bathroom before you come here! Social distancing- the trails were pretty packed on the weekend, but most of the main trails are fairly wide, and I was impressed that nearly everyone was wearing a mask! Go everyone! read more

It's the kind of place that makes you grateful for mother nature. The kind of place that makes you treasure the precious trails and soak in the vastness of the vistas. It's a place where you breathe the air and bob in and out of the mist and see the sunlight peep through, then grace you with her golden rays. It's the kind of place you go with someone you love, and every time you think about going to the city of food and drink and cultures and tech and traffic, you also think about taking her here to get away. It's the kind of place that connects with your soul and makes you grateful for each year you have on this earth. It reminds you how grateful you are that for each year older you get, you'll never disconnect yourself from nature, your true self, and the beauty that still takes your breath away. I've been a handful of times now, and it's usually on a trail run. If you get there early enough in the morning, it's surprisingly vacant. As the sun rises, you see more people take to the trails, but I've never had it so crowded I can't take the whole run in stride. The views of the Bay, the Bridge, and open sea are stunning, paired with the smell of the eucalyptus and the occasional bright burst of wildflower along the trail. Stick to the trail. The cliffs are unforgiving. They're roped off. Don't be dumb. There are a few trails you can access and I usually end up near the Sutro Baths and the Cliff House, though I've gone for extra credit and continued my run down Ocean Beach. Whether it's ocean views or the sea spray or the flowers or trees or fond memories or wishful futures, this place always makes me think about how grateful I am for places just like this, and for another year to visit here, run, walk, sit, and just be. read more

What a view! We made a quick pitstop at Land's End at the suggestion of a friend and it was worth it for the photo op with the waves crashing into the rocks. We stopped by on a Wednesday around 11:30 am and there was plenty of parking in the lot. We did notice a car break-in though so the signs around the lot definitely aren't lying. PS. For more information and photos, search Lands End Labyrinth or Point Lobos Trail or Los Angeles Lands End of Anaheim...it appears on Yelp under different names. Aside from the obvious tourist attractions, this tops the short list of must-sees in the city, especially considering it is unaffected by the pandemic and the only poop you'll see is inhuman and the only needles are falling from trees. The rock maze is not really that amazing, but it seems to delight and engage all ages as a quirky detour along the nicest coastal hike in the city.  With views of the Golden Gate in the background, the circular maze is a cool little photo OP.  Especially for dishonest and very short Instagram influencers who can claim they're at  Stonehenge. To find the labyrinth, exit the lot toward the trees and follow the signs to Mile Rock Beach.  After the first set of stairs down, go right instead of taking the second set of stairs, watch your step, and find your way down  to the other side of the Lion Kingish rock hill obscures the view of the labyrinth. Visited Lands End a few weekends ago. Weather was unseasonably warm for January, but that made it a beautiful day. There were areas of the trail that were a little wet and muddy which made maneuvering with a low to the ground pup a bit difficult. There were also a ton of visitors so it was hard to socially distance, but everyone was wearing masks. Lots of walkers, dogs, hikers and runners along the trail. It was very scenic and green and I loved the coastal views. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge was spectacular as well. We didn't have too much time to go further onto the trail, but I definitely want to come back to experience it all. read more
